AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE
BANNING OF THE BOOK SERIES, TWILIGHT BY STEPHANIE MEYER, FROM ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL LIBRARIES.
Whereas the Twilight books promote a bad self image for
girls and women.

Whereas the series is making girls and women think they
should fall in love with a vampire because it would be perfect.

Whereas Twilight is taking over, the series has sold more than 10 million copies,
according to news reports, and Meyer is often hailed as the next J. K. Rowling.
Meyer’s most recent book, published in August, sold 1.3 million copies the

Whereas the male characters in the "Twilight" series create an
unrealistic view of the opposite gender and do not promote the continuation of

Whereas the character of Bella in Twilight exhibits the classical "damsel
in distress" scenario repeatedly. She can never seem to do anything to
save herself from perilous situations and must call in her sparkling boyfriend
to do so for her. This is highly outdated and not well received or valued in
modern literature.
Whereas Bella and Edward both fall into gender norms and stereotypes that
encourage young readers to conform to aforementioned gender norms and
stereotypes.
Whereas the book is badly written. Neither the sentence formations nor the word
choices make it a valuable read for any young person aspiring to ever be able
to write anything.
Whereas the characters in the novel are flat and promote viewing the world in a
very one dimensional way, just as the novel is written in a one dimensional
way.
Whereas the book paints a dreary and otherwise disappointing view of the
wonderful state of
Whereas the novel is a waste of an average of anywhere from three to seven
hours of reading time.
Whereas the novel gives young readers the false delusion that it is good literature,
since it is so highly publicized, when it is in fact, awful literature written
to sate the flighty appetites of preteens and young teenagers alike. There is
no real substance, but the readers are tricked into believing that it is
substantive, due to their immaturity pertaining to literature and the English
language, and the hype surrounding the novel.
Whereas the relationship between Bella and Edward in
Twilight is completely shallow. Bella is constantly describing Edwards good

Student Legislative Assembly that
Section 1: THE BOOK SERIES TWILIGHT SHALL BE BANNED FROM ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL
LIBRARIES
Section 2: IF A STUDENT CHECKS OUT ONE OF THE BOOKS FROM THIS SERIES FROM A PUBLIC LIBRARY AND BRINGS IT TO SCHOOL HE OR SHE SHALL RECEIVE A DETENTION.
