Descendants of Laurent Jaeger

 

 Generation One

 
     1.  Laurent¹ JAEGER was born circa 1760 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France. The name Jaeger translates in English to “hunter.”  It is taken from the German word “jagen” meaning to chase or hunt.

     Alsace-Lorraine is a region in eastern France on the German and Swiss borders and Rhine River composed of the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine. France and Germany have been in conflict over control of the region for centuries.  It was part of the Frankish Empire in the 9^th century but eventually was absorbed into the Holy Roman Empire as part of the duchy of Swabia. It then was ceded to France following the Thirty Years’ War and the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. After the Franco-Prussian War, the Treaty of Frankfurt ceded these parts to the newly-founded German Empire in 1871. The area was restored to France after World War I by the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, but was annexed by Nazi Germany in 1940. It again reverted to French control in 1945.

     Laurent married Anne Barbe KRINTZ who was born circa 1760, also in Rittershoffen.

               +   2       i.    Laurent² JAEGER, born 20 March 1784 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France; married Maria Eve KNAB.

 

Generation Two

 
     2.  Laurent² JAEGER (Laurent¹) was born 20 March 1784 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France.  He married Maria Eve KNAB, daughter of Leonard Knab and Barbe Knaebig, on 14 November 1809 in Rittershoffen. Laurent, Maria and their six children emigrated to the United States in 1830 and settled in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio.  On 10 March 1835 Laurent petitioned to become a naturalized citizen as “Lawrence Yager.” The name recorded when he was naturalized on 17 April 1839 was Lorenzo and he was referred to as Lorenzo in estate papers from Marion County Probate Court files. Lawrence died 12 September 1846 in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio at age 62, and was buried in Klingel Cemetery, Richland Township, Marion County.

     Lawrence’s will, dated 28 March 1846, left to his son David his 80-acre farm (full possession was granted after the death of his wife “Mary”) and requested that $1000 be divided between George Yager, Caroline and Mary Eberhart, who are referred to as "step daughters” [they are actually his granddaughters], his "stepson" David Yager [this is likely his son, as there were no grandsons born by this date], daughter Caroline Shenlab [Schoenlaub] and daughter Sarah Eberhart.  His son George was appointed executor of the estate.

     Maria Eve KNAB was born 17 May 1784 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France.  She died 3 August 1855 in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio at age 71, and was buried in Klingel Cemetery.

     Known children of Laurent² JAEGER/YAGER and Maria Eve KNAB, all born in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France, were as follows:

               +   3       i.    George³ YAGER, born 4 May 1811; married Catharine STEFFAN.

                    4      ii.    Friederich JAEGER was born 29 September 1813.  He was naturalized 25 March 1840 in Marion County, Ohio. Frederick, as he was known in America, likely died before March 1846 as he was not mentioned in his father’s will and cannot be found in subsequent censuses.

               +   5     iii.    David YAGER, born 8 May 1818; married Margaret MARTIN; married Margaret RAPP.

               +   6      iv.    Magdalena YAGER, born 4 August 1820; married John Adam EBERHART.

                    7       v.    Caroline YAGER was born 23 November 1822.  She married George SCHOENLAUB 8 January 1843 in Marion County, Ohio.

               +   8      vi.    Sarah YAGER, born 25 March 1825; married John Adam EBERHART.

 

Generation Three

 
     3.  George³ YAGER (Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 4 May 1811 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France and emigrated to the United States in 1930 with his family. George, who was naturalized 22 June 1840 in Marion County, Ohio, died 11 August 1855 in Marion County, Ohio at age 44.  He was buried in Klingel Cemetery, Richland Township, Marion County.

     George married Catharine STEFFAN 1 August 1840 in Marion County. She was born 5 May 1825 in Marion County and died 3 May 1909 in that county at age 83.  Catharine was buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Richland Township, Marion County.       Known children of George³ YAGER and Catharine STEFFAN, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

               +   9       i.    Mary⁴ YAGER, born circa 1843; married August STARK.

             +   10      ii.    Catharine YAGER, born circa 1845; married Edward LINSTEDT.

             +   11     iii.    Caroline YAGER, born February 1849; married August WEISKE.

             +   12      iv.    Margaret YAGER, born 29 October 1849; married Philip EICHHORN.

             +   13       v.    Julia Ann YAGER, born May 1853; married Frederick HUEBNER.

                  14      vi.    George YAGER was born 4 August 1855 and never married. He died 12 October 1912 in Marion County, Ohio at age 57, and was buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio.

 

     5.  David³ YAGER (Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 8 May 1818 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France and emigrated to the United States in 1830 with his family.  He became a naturalized citizen 23 June 1840 in Marion County, Ohio where he resided in Pleasant Township until his death 23 July 1890 at age 72.

      David married first Margaret MARTIN 20 October 1844 in Marion County. She was born 3 February 1825 in Ohio and died 4 May 1860 in Marion County at age 35.  Margaret was buried in Klingel Cemetery, Richland Township, Marion County. David married second Margaret Rapp 6September 1860 in Marion County. She was born 12 February 1832 in Rosswag, Wurttemberg, Grmany, and died after 1907.

     Known children of David³ YAGER and Margaret MARTIN were as follows:

                  15       i.    David A.⁴ YAGER was born circa 1853 in Ohio.

                  16      ii.    Minnie J. YAGER was born circa 1854 in Illinois.

                  17     III.    John A. YAGER was born circa 1860 and accidentally drowned in a stone quarry circa 1883 in Marion County, Ohio.

     Known children of David³ YAGER and Margaret RAPP, all born in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

             +   18      ii.    George F. YAGER, born 9 February 1862; married Catherine GAVER.

             +   19     iii.    Mary Elizabeth YAGER, born in December 1863; married Jacob David FETTER.

             +   20      iv.    David William YAGER, born 1 November 1865; married Christina FIRSTENBERGER.

                  21       v.    Clara Emma YAGER, who went by the name Emma, was born in March 1870.  She married Jacob F. WIPFLER 9 August 1896 in Marion County, Ohio and the couple had no children. Jacob was born circa 1869 in Ohio.

             +   22      vi.    Caroline R. YAGER, born circa 1868 (out of birth order); married Samuel H. FETTER.

                  23     vii.    Sophia M. YAGER was born 12 May 1872. She married George W. MARTIN, a carpenter, 9 February 1899 in Marion County, and their children were Warren D., born in February 1900; Helen M., born circa 1904, and Ruth E., born circa 1906, all in Marion County. George was born in July 1864 in Ohio.

 

     6.  Magdalena³ YAGER (Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 4 August 1820 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France and emigrated to the United States in 1830 with her family.  She died 18 December 1844 in Marion County, Ohio at age 24, and was buried in Claridon Cemetery, Marion County.

     Magdalena married John Adam EBERHART 8 April 1840 in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, Ohio. John was born 20 June 1809 in Wurttemberg, Germany and emigrated to the U.S. about 1829, settling in Claridon Township in Marion County.  Thomas John Eberhart of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, a great-great grandson of John Adam Eberhart, was told by his great aunts Jennie and Pearl Eberhart, his uncle Harold Gail Eberhart and his father John Fiant Eberhart that John Adam was a baron and had a brother who was a Prussian general.  In order to avoid conscription in the Napoleonic Wars, John Adam came to America with a sister who died during the voyage.  He was quite wealthy, however he drank away a lot of his money.  None of these facts, however, have been substantiated.

    Following the death of his wife Magdalena, John married her sister Sarah Yager. (See #8 below)  He died 8 April 1873 in Claridon Township, Marion County at age 63; the cause of death was congestive brain inflammation (or fever).  John was buried in Claridon Cemetery, Marion County. His house and barn are visible from the cemetery.  He operated a tannery in Claridon until his death and depressions in the ground from the tanning pits remain to this day.

     Known children of Magdalena³ YAGER and John Adam EBERHART, both born in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

             +   24       i.    Caroline⁴ EBERHART, born 28 August 1841; married George Adam KRANER.

             +   25      ii.    Mary EBERHART, born 1 June 1842; married Andrew LEFFLER.

 

     8.  Sarah³ YAGER (Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 25 March 1825 in Rittershoffen, Weissenburg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France and emigrated to the United States in 1830 with her family. She was also known as Salome and Sallie by family and friends.  Sarah married John Adam EBERHART, the widower of her older sister Magdalena, on 16 February 1845 in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, Ohio.  (See #6 above)  According to  'Portrait and Biographical Record of Marion and Hardin Counties, Ohio,'  Sarah had eleven children and three died in early childhood. The 1900 census notes she had eight children, seven living at that time.

          Known children of Sarah³ YAGER and John Adam EBERHART, all born in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

             +   26       i.    John A.⁴ EBERHART, born 25 June 1846; married Amelia UNDERWOOD.

             +   27      ii.    Magdalena EBERHART, born 11 October 1847; married and divorced Henry David KRENKLER.

                  28     iii.    David EBERHART was born 27 March 1850.  He died 27 August 1851 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio, at age 1.

                  29      iv.    George EBERHART was born 19 June 1852.  He died 22 November 1860 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio at age 8, and was buried in Claridon Cemetery, Marion County.

             +   30       v.    Margaret EBERHART, born 1 August 1854; married Richard S. SQUIBB.

                  31      vi.    David EBERHART was born 9 September 1856.  He married Alice EVERSOLE 7 March 1891 in Marion County, Ohio and likely died before 1900. According to Thomas Eberhart of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, David went to California to work in the vineyards and was killed when a mule kicked him in the head. Thomas’ cousin Kay Fair has the original letter telling of the death.

                  32     vii.    Jacob Adam EBERHART, also known as Adam, was born 6 September 1858.  According to Thomas Eberhart, Jacob started fires in a pot belly stove in his house by putting a log partly in the stove and pushing the log in further as it burnt down. One time he was drunk and likely fell asleep. His house burnt and he died in the fire. A notice in the 18 December 1895 edition of the Marion Daily Star, under the heading Probate Court, says: ‘Catherine Eberhart, administratrix of the estate of Jacob Eberhart, deceased, filed an inventory and appraisement of personal property.’ It is possible Jacob married and this was his wife.

             +   33    viii.    William P. EBERHART, born February 1861; married Mary Edith AUSTIN.

                  34      ix.    Frederick EBERHART was born 27 July 1863. He may have married an Ida, last name unknown. The marriage would have been after 1900 since he was in the census with his mother as a single farmer. A son of Fredrick and Ida Eberhart named William is buried in Claridon Cemetery, aged 1 year, 5 months and 7 days; no dates given. There is in the 1920 census a Fred Eberhart, age 56, born in Ohio and his parents in Germany, with wife Ida, age 46, living in Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio. He was a laborer in a stone quarry. In 1920 this Ida M. Eberhart, age 56, a widow, lived in Richmond alone, born in Ohio as were her parents. There is some possibility this is the Frederick Eberhart in question.

             +   35       x.    Sarah Emma EBERHART, born 7 November 1865; married Thomas D. WILLIAMS.

 

Generation Four

 
     9.  Mary⁴ YAGER (George³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born circa 1843 in Marion County, Ohio.  She married August STARK 1 October 1868 in Marion County, Ohio and they resided in Richland Township.  August was born circa 1845 in Wurttemberg, Germany. Both he and Mary died before 1907.

          Known children of Mary⁴ YAGER and August STARK, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  36       i.    John⁵ STARK was born circa 1869.

                  37      ii.    Catharine STARK was born circa 1870.

                  38     iii.    Mary E. STARK was born circa 1875.

 

     10.  Catharine⁴ YAGER (George³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born circa 1845 in Marion County, Ohio and married Edward LINSTEDT 24 September 1876 in Marion County, Ohio. He was born circa 1835 in Germany. In the 1880 census they lived in Richland Township.    

     Known children of Catharine⁴ YAGER and Edward LINSTEDT, both born in Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  39       i.    Cora Emma⁵ LINSTEDT was born circa 1878.

                  40      ii.    George F. LINSTEDT was born in May 1879. There is a Fred G. Linstedt, born circa 1880, Ohio in the 1900 federal census in Denver, Colorado, married for one year to Clara E., age 23, born in Kansas. Fred's parents’ place of birth both given as Germany, rather than Germany (father) and Ohio (mother), but this could very possibly be the correct person and his middle name was Frederick.

 

     11.  Caroline⁴ YAGER (George³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born in February 1849 in Marion County, Ohio.  She married August WEISKE 5 November 1872 in Marion County, Ohio.

          August, whose full name was Friedrich Christoph August Weiske, was born 21 January 1849 in Prussia, Germany and died before 1920 in Marion, Marion County.  He was the son of Christoph Gottfried and Eva Friedrike Wilhelmina (Melcher-Himler) Weiske of Bachra Eckartsberga, Prussia. His mother later married Frederick August Huebner and they had a son Frederick Huebner who married Caroline Yager's sister Julia Ann. (See #13 below)  August emigrated with his family to the United States in April 1851 and was naturalized 2 April 1870 in Marion County, Ohio.

     Known children of Caroline⁴ YAGER and August WEISKE, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  41       i.    Minnie C.⁵ WEISKE was born in November 1876.  She married Sylvester E. KEYES 17 December 1896 in Marion County, Ohio. Sylvester was born circa 1871 in Ohio.

                  42      ii.    Annetta T. WEISKE was born in February 1879. She also went by the name of Nettie.

                  43     iii.    William WEISKE was born in February 1881. He was a blacksmith, per the 1920 census, and a machinist in a tractor plant in 1930. He lived with his parents through the 1930 census, and likely never married.

                  44      iv.    Ella WEISKE was born in March 1890.

 

     12.  Margaret⁴ YAGER (George³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 29 October 1849 in Marion County, Ohio and died between 1920 and 1930. She married Philip EICHHORN 17 March 1870 in Marion County, Ohio.

     Philip EICHHORN was born 13 May 1848 in Morrow County, Ohio, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Firstenberger) Eichhorn of Baiertal, Baden, Germany.  He was six years old when his father died and he accompanied his mother and sister Sophia to Marion County where he was reared on the farm of his relatives. Philip, a member of the German Reformed Church, died after 1930.

     Known children of Margaret⁴ YAGER and Philip EICHHORN, all born in Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  45       i.    Laura⁵ EICHHORN was born circa 1871 and married Robert C. SWEENEY. Robert was born about 1853-57 in Ohio.  He is most likely the Robert C. Sweeney who was enumerated with his parents Robert C. and Elizabeth in Marion in the 1900 census. This Robert was age 46, single, a painter, born June 1853, in Ohio. His father, a physician, was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in New York. As per the 1920 census, Laura's husband Robert also had a father born in Pennsylvania, and was a house painter.

                  46      ii.    Catherine EICHHORN was born circa 1873.

                  47     iii.    Frederick EICHHORN was born 22 February 1874 and married Ida F. MERCHANT 25 April 1901 in Marion County, Ohio. Ida was born 29 March 1878 in Morrow County, Ohio, the daughter of John T. and Salome (Ulsh) Merchant. The couple had a daughter Helen, born circa 1904 in Marion County, and by 1920 the family resided in St. Joseph, Berrien County, Michigan where Fred , as he was called, was a farmer.

                  48      iv.    Samuel W. EICHHORN was born in November 1875. He married Emma KLINGEL 29 November 1900 in Marion County, Ohio and they had two sons, Herbert and Homer, both born between 1901 and 1907. Emma, the daughter of Jacob and [--?--)](Kull) Klingel, was born 6 December 1874.

                  49       v.    Clara M. EICHHORN was born in January 1878.  She married Peter LEMMER circa 1901 in Marion County, Ohio.

 Peter LEMMER was born circa 1868 in Germany and emigrated in 1881 to the United States. Peter was a boarder in the household of Jacob and Mary E. (Yager) Fetter in the 1900 census. Mary was the first cousin once removed of Peter's future wife Clara.

                  50      vi.    John P. EICHHORN was born in March 1887 and died 23 December 1976 at age 89. He married Mary E. [--?--] circa 1912 in Marion County, and had children Josephine E., born circa 1913; Warren H., born circa 1915; Forest E., born circa 1919, and Gordon J. Mary was born circa 1891.

                  51     vii.    Harvey Wesley EICHHORN was born 12 April 1892 and died 1 Apr 1968 in Marion County, Ohio at the age of 75. He married Ethel Gertrude GRAHAM on 1 October 1913 in Marion County. Ethel was born 3 September 1894 in that county and died 8 January 1975 at age 80 in Palm Beach County, Florida. Harvey and Ethel had three children: Kenneth Graham, born 27 May 1914 and died 22 April 1968 at age 53 in Wyandot County, Ohio; Marguerite Elizabeth, born circa 1917, and Victor Harvey, born 12 April 1919 and died in September 1978 at the age of 59.

 

     13.  Julia Ann⁴ YAGER (George³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born in May 1853 in Marion County, Ohio, and died before 1930 in Marion County.  She married Frederick HUEBNER 6 January 1878 in Marion County.

     Frederick HUEBNER was born in February 1853 in Ohio, the son of Friedrich August and Eva Friedrike Wilhelmina (Melcher-Himler-Weiske) Huebner of Bachra Ekartsberga, Prussia, Germany. His mother's son by her second marriage, Friedrich Christoph August Weiske, married Julia Yager's sister Caroline.  Fred, as he was known, died 21 February 1932 in Marion County. He was a farmer in Richland Township, but by 1920 had moved into the city of Marion and worked as a laborer in a factory.

     Known children of Julia Ann⁴ YAGER and Frederick HUEBNER were:

                  52       i.    Wesley F.⁵ HUEBNER was born circa 1885 in Marion County, Ohio and married Mary [--?--] circa 1911 in that county. Mary was born circa 1882 in Ohio. The couple had a son Milton B., born 10 March 1913 and died 2 May 1995 at age 82. His last known residence was Marion.

 

     18.  George Frederick⁴ YAGER (David³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 9 February 1862 in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio and died 4 July 1933 at age 71. He was buried in Marion Cemetery. George married Catherine GAYER, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Ault) Gayer, 14 March 1889 in Marion County, Ohio. Catherine was born in March 1868 in Marion County and died 20 August 1961 in that county at age 93.

     George, a farmer who resided in Pleasant Township, served on the school board and was a trustee of the township for a number of years. 

       Known children of George F.⁴ YAGER and Catherine GAYER, all born in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  53       i.    Anna⁵ YAGER was born in January 1890.

                  54      ii.    Frederick A. YAGER was born in July 1891 and died before 1907.

                  55     iii.    Genevieve Henrietta YAGER, also known as Jennie and Geneva, was born 16 June 1893 and died 30 March 1977 in Marion County, Ohio at age 83. She married Harry Alfred LAUCHER 18 March 1915 in Marion County. Harry, the son of William and Katherine (Aidt) Laucher, was born 20 October 1892 in Crawford County, Ohio, and died 9 December 1974 in Marion County at age 82. Their children were Alfred G., born 8 July 1917 and died 30 March 1990 at age 72; Ralph W., born 30 November 1918 and died 2 August 1999 at age 80; Leroy H., born 6 August 1922 and died 29 June 1999 at age 76; Katherine N. and Hazel V.

                  56      iv.    Nina E. YAGER was born in February 1895.

                  57       v.    Carl YAGER was born 30 September 1901 and died 5 October 1901 in Marion County, Ohio.

                  58      vi.    Albert G. YEAGER was born 9 February 1903 and died in Marion County, Ohio at age 73 on 20 February 1976. He used the Yeager spelling for his surname. Albert married Hilda M. RENGERT circa 1924 in Marion County. The daughter of Henry G. and Clara A. Rengert, Hilda was born 26 January 1903 in Ohio and died 23 October 1992 in Marion County at age 92. The couple had three daughters.

                  59     vii.    Hazel YAGER was born circa 1906.

 

     19.  Mary Elizabeth⁴ YAGER (David³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born circa 1864 in Marion County, Ohio. She died in April 1922 that county at age 58.

     Mary married Jacob David FETTER 16 October 1884 in Marion County. He was born 15 September 1860 in Claridon Township in Marion County, the son of George, Jr. and Mary (Mauntz) Fetter, and died 22 November 1930 in Marion County at age 70.  Jacob’s brother Samuel H. Fetter married Mary’s sister Caroline R. Yager. (See #22 below)

     Known children of Mary Elizabeth⁴ YAGER and Jacob David FETTER, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  60       i.    Alice Emma⁵ FETTER was born in January 1885 and  died  9 November 1948 in Marion County, Ohio at age 63. She married John R. FRAYER, the son of Richard and Mary (Miley) Frayer, 2 March 1909 in Marion. John was born 9 December 1881 in Union County, Ohio and died 22 June 1962 in Marion at age 80. Both Alice and John were buried in Marion Cemetery. They had sons Ernest J., born 22 January 1910 and died 6 June 2000 at age 90; Harold R., born circa 1912 and died 27 January 1968; Russell L., born 2 January 1914 and died 8 November 2006 at age 92; and Kenneth C.; and two daughters.

                  61      ii.    Clara Ella FETTER was born 3 October 1887 and died 15 November 1975 in Marion County, Ohio at age 88. She married Wesley LEHNER circa 1905 in Marion County, Ohio and they lived in Richland Township. Wesley was born in October 1884 in Marion County and was the son of John and Elizabeth Lehner. Clara and Wesley had children Gertrude M., born circa 1908; Mildred L., born circa 1911 and Melvin W., born 20 December 1916 and died 12 February 2004 in Ohio at age 87.

                  62     iii.    Harry FETTER was born in 1890.  He died 11 June 1891 in Marion County, Ohio.

                  63      iv.    Bertha May FETTER was born 28 July 1892 and died 20 July 1976 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio at age 83.  She married H. Ellis EPLEY circa 1915 in Marion County. Ellis was born circa 1886 in Ohio, the son of George W. and Mary A. (Zeigler) Epley, and died 9 May 1968 in Marion.

                  64       v.    Frederick David FETTER was born in December 1896 and married Mildred H. JOHNSON who was born 22 May 1898 in Marion County, Ohio, and died 29 October 1996 in that county at age 98. She was buried in Marion Cemetery. They had a son Richard E., born 25 August 1927 and died 27 November 2000 in Marion County at age 73. They also had a daughter who married Jack E. ROBBINS, the son of Harry M. and Harriette (Russell) Robbins, who was born 2 April 1928 in Marion County, and died 16 April 1986 in Stevensville, Berrien County, Michigan at age 58.

                  65      vi.    Sadie Marie FETTER was born 29 October 1899 and died 8 July 1990 at age 90 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio. On 17 October 1922 she married Harley A. MAYERS who was born circa 1899 and died 10 December 1976 in Marion County.

 

     20.  David William⁴ YAGER (David³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 1 November 1865 in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio and died before 1920 in that county.  He married Christiana FIRSTENBERGER 19 March 1891 in Marion County and they resided in Richland Township.

     Christiana was born October 1860 in Ohio, the daughter of Daniel and Caroline (Mauntz) Firstenberger. She died after 1930. In the census that year she was enumerated in the household of her daughter Inez.

     Known children of David William⁴ YAGER and Christiana FIRSTENBERGER, both born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  66       i.    Inez M.⁵ YAGER was born in September 1897. Circa 1920 in Marion County she married Hurley William PRICE, the son of L. Wilford and Rosa Price, and they had one known child, Dorothy. Hurley was born 4 April 1899 in Pleasant Township, Marion County, and died 16 December 1995 in Marion County at age 96.

                  67      ii.    Edward Benjamin YAGER was born 6 October 1899 and died 30 October 1981 at age 82. He married Susie LINN circa 1921 and their known children, both born in Marion County, were Harry William, born 7 August 1922 and died 1 December 2001 in Marion County at age 79; and Charles. Susie was born 10 October 1901 in Marion County, Ohio, the daughter of Charles T. and Mary V. Linn, and died 14 October 1989 in Marion County at age 88.

 

     22.  Caroline Rosina⁴ YAGER (David³, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born circa 1868 in Marion County, Ohio.  The 1900 census gave her birth date as July 1870, however in the 1870 census she was aged two years old, and that census was enumerated in April, two months ahead of her supposed July birth month. Caroline, who also was known as Callie, married Samuel H. FETTER 15 March 1888 in Marion County.  She died 13 June 1909 in Marion County at age 41 and was buried in Marion Cemetery.

     Samuel, a drayman and a farmer, was born 5 October 1864 and died 8 February 1935 in Marion County at age 70. He was buried in Marion Cemetery. Samuel was the son of George, Jr. and Mary Ann (Mauntz) Fetter. His brother Jacob David Fetter married his wife’s sister Mary Elizabeth Yager. (See #19 above) After Caroline’s death, some time between 1910 and 1919, Samuel married second Alice Angeline EVERSOLE and they resided in Prospect Township, Marion County. Alice, the daughter of David Eversole was born circa 1863 in Ohio and died 6 December 1926 in Marion County. She was married previously and had a daughter Ethel.

     Known children of Caroline Rosina⁴ YAGER and Samuel H. FETTER, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  68       i.    Edith F.⁵ FETTER was born 28 February 1889 and died 23 May 1947 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio at age 58. She married circa 1908 Harry G. KOHBARGER who was born circa 1886 in Ohio and died 10 October 1952 in Marion County. The couple had children Alfred, born in 1909 and died at age 44 in Marion 9 January  1953;   William E., born 15 July 1912 and died in December 1968 at age 56;  Ruth E., born  21 January 1917 and died in April 1998 at age 81 who married Rhey W. RIESER; Dorothy M. who married Ed PEARSON; and Mary who married John S. FETTER.

                  69      ii.    Stella M. FETTER was born in September 1890 and circa 1914 married Ray D. MESSENGER who was born in Ohio 24 September 1886, the son of Anthony W. and Nancy A. Messenger. Ray was a salesman in a hardware store in Marion, Marion County,  Ohio. The couple had daughters Margaret and Dorothy.

                  70     iii.    Earl C. FETTER was born in July 1893. He married Mary M. [--?--] circa 1927 and they resided in Marion, Marion County, Ohio where Earl was a foundry man in a steel mill in 1930. He died 20 June 1939 in Prospect, Marion County at age 46.

                  71      iv.    Margaret M. FETTER was born in December 1895. In the 1930 census she was a warper for a silk mill and lived with her brother Earl and his wife. She never married and died in Marion County, Ohio 1 October 1972 at age 76.

                  72       v.    Hattie E. FETTER was born in January 1897 and married [--?--] HABERMAN.

                  73      vi.    Edward S. FETTER was born in January 1898 and died 4 August 1964 in Marion County at age 66. In the 1930 federal census he was a truck driver for an ice plant in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

                  74     vii.    Oda Emma FETTER was born in May 1900 and was a twin to sister Cora. She died before 1910 in Marion County, Ohio.

                  75    viii.    Cora C. FETTER was born 20 May 1900 and was a twin to sister Oda. She died 20 April 1922 in Columbus Franklin County, Ohio at age 22. For many years Cora was an inmate in the Institute for the Feeble-Minded.

 

24.    Caroline⁴ EBERHART (Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 28 August 1841 in Claridon, Marion

Ohio, and died 20 September 1927 in Greenville Township, Darke County, Ohio at age 86. She was buried 22 September 1927 in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Miami County, Ohio.

     Caroline married George Adam KRANER 7 November 1861 in Marion County. George was born 20 October 1839 in Wilferdingen, Baden, Germany, the son of Philip Jacob and Barbara (Schlamm) Kroener. He emigrated to the United States, along with his father, step-mother Augustine, brothers John William and David Ernst and half-brothers Christian and Heinrich, sailing from Le Havre, France on the ship “Woodside” and arriving in New York 2 April 1852.  The family spent its first winter in Auglaize County, Ohio, then in the spring of 1853 settled in Marion County. George became a naturalized citizen 2 April 1860 in Marion County. After the birth of three children George and Caroline moved to Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana where in 1869 he bought the tannery of Matthew Atkinson. He was still operating the tannery in 1887.  George was active in community affairs and in 1877 was appointed treasurer of the first school board of trustees in Salamonia. He died 6 August 1924 at age 84 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio, where his son William lived.  At the time of his death his residence was in Rossburg, Darke County, Ohio. George was buried 8 August 1924 in Riverside Cemetery.

     Known children of Caroline⁴ EBERHART and George Adam KRANER were as follows:

             +   79       i.    Mary Magdalena⁵ KRANER, born 22 February 1863 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio; married William GIMBEL.

                  80      ii.    William John KRANER was born 16 April 1864 in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, Ohio.  He married Tillie CLAPP circa 1895 and they had no children. William was for 30 years a harness maker in the city of Troy in Miami County, Ohio, and at one time was co-owner, along with J.C. Corbin, of Kraner & Corbin, manufacturers and dealers in harness and horse furnishings, located on the northwest corner of the public square in Troy. The 1900 census gave his occupation as foreman of a factory and in 1912 he was employed by Miller Brothers. William died in his Lincoln Avenue home in Troy 20 July 1929 at age 65. His death was attributed to the effects of a heart attack he suffered two weeks previously. He also had Bright's disease.  William was buried 23 July 1929 in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Miami County, Ohio.

     William’s wife Tillie was born in February 1869 in Indiana and died 27 December 1946 in Miami County, Ohio at age 77.  Buried 30 December 1946 in Riverside Cemetery, she was listed on the cemetery record as Tillie H. Kraner Harris and so likely remarried after William died.  Tillie was the daughter of Daniel Clapp who was born circa 1832 in Ohio (his parents were born in North Carolina) and in the 1880 census the family was in Wayne Township, Randolph County, Indiana. Daniel’s wife at that time was not Tillie's mother as her place of birth was Ohio and Tillie's mother was born in Pennsylvania. In the census of 1930 Tillie was enumerated in her home on Lincoln Avenue in Troy and was employed by a manufacturer of outdoor furniture

                  81     iii.    Clara E. KRANER was born 28 July 1865 in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, Ohio. She died 17 December 1946 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 81 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Miami County, Ohio.

     Clara married first George WENDELL 22 April 1888 in Jay County, Indiana and they had two children who both died in infancy, according to George's obituary. George was born 19 November 1863 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany and emigrated to the U.S. in 1866 with his parents Peter and Margaret Wendell. The family first located in Crestline, Ohio (located in both Crawford and Richmond Counties) and then moved to the Mercer County, Ohio area in 1883. George and Clara lived in Celina in Mercer County where George was a carriage maker. He suffered from epileptic seizures and in 1909 was admitted to a hospital for epileptics in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio where he died 14 February 1910 at age 46.  He was buried 16 February 1910 in Green Mound Cemetery, Ft. Recovery, Mercer County.

     After George’s death Clara remained in Celina and earned a living as a seamstress, according to the 1910 federal census. Sometime before the federal census of 1920 she married Henry GIMBEL, brother to her sister Magdalena’s husband William Gimbel, and moved to Franklin County, Ohio. The couple had no children. Henry was born 29 October 1862 in Union City, Darke County, Ohio, the son of Henry and Anna Maria (Heuss) Gimbel. He married first Ella Morris circa 1894 and they had a son Ernest Noble Gimbel born 23 April 1895. Ella died and about 1903 Henry married Lillian E. [--?--], a nurse, likely in Franklin County, Ohio.  Lillian and Henry had a daughter Sylvia born circa 1909, but by 1920 they had divorced and Henry received custody of Sylvia. Henry was a blacksmith and worked on carriages. In the 1910 census he was listed as superintendent for a buggy company in Columbus; in 1920 he was a die maker in a Franklin County factory, and in 1930 he was an inspector for a bolt manufacturing company in Columbus. Henry died 22 February 1947 in Columbus at age 84, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery.

             +   82      iv.    Jennie Ellen KRANER, born 11 January 1871 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana; married Abednego STEPHENS; married Charles Allen ARMSTRONG.

 

     25.  Mary⁴ EBERHART (Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 1 June 1842 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio.  She married Andrew LEFFLER 14 December 1865 in Bowling Green Township, Marion County, Ohio.

     Andrew, born Andreas Loeffler 7 August 1840 in Gruenwettersbach, Durlach, Baden, Germany, was the son of Michael and Christina Regina (Ludwig) Loeffler. He was christened 16 August 1840 in Gruenwettersbach.  Andrew emigrated to the United States in 1854 with his family and settled in Marion County where he became a butcher and one of the largest stock dealers in the county. He enlisted in October 1861 in Company D, 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was wounded in the right thigh while participating in the Civil War battle of McDowell in West Virginia. He achieved the rank of corporal and in August 1862 was honorably discharged. Andrew died 18 March 1909 in Marion County, Ohio at age 68; cause of death was spinal fever.

     Known children of Mary⁴ EBERHART and Andrew LEFFLER, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                  83       i.    Jennie⁵ LEFFLER was born in October 1866 and died after 1930, likely in Marion County, Ohio. She married first John C. PRIESTER, a butcher, 12 June 1890 in Marion County. He was born in February 1863 in Pennsylvania, the son of Ludwig and Elizabeth Priester. John either died or the couple divorced, as Jennie remarried circa 1908 Philip EBERT. Philip, born in October 1851 in Germany, emigrated with his wife and children to the United States in 1881 and became a naturalized citizen in 1886. He died 14 June 1923 at age 71 in Marion County. Jennie and her first husband John Priester had three children, all born in Marion County: Leroy, born in April 1891; Twila, born in September 1893, and Estella, born in December 1895.

                  84      ii.    Frank LEFFLER was born circa 1869 and married Carrie M. DOWELL, the daughter of Edward and Sophronia Dowell, 5 May 1891 in Marion County, Ohio. She was born circa 1873 in Marion County. The couple divorced some time before 1903 and Frank moved to Texas where he married Sallie [--?--] circa 1904. She was born circa 1874 in Texas and had been married previously and had a child. Frank and Sallie resided in Houston, Harris County, Texas in the 1910 federal census, and were enumerated in Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas in the 1920 census. Frank was a butcher. After Frank and Carrie divorced she moved with their two daughters to Rochester, Monroe County, New York where she met and married William R. Walls, a steam fitter. By 1920, the couple resided in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, but were divorced by 1930. Frank and Carrie had three children, all born in Marion County, Ohio: Dever, born circa 1892 and died 1 November 1918 in Dallas, Texas of pneumonia due to flu who had a wife and seven-year-old daughter at the time of his death; Cecil M., born circa 1893, who married circa 1911 John A. LANGLEY, a fireman born in Texas circa 1885, and resided with their two daughters, Mildred F. and Louise E. in Dallas, Texas in the 1920 and 1930 federal censuses; and Fern L., born circa 1895, who married John W. CHRISTIAN, who was born in 1892 in Maryland, and resided in Marion County with their three-year-old son John W., Jr. in the 1920 federal census.

                  85     iii.    Harrison Gale LEFFLER was born in February 1874 and died 1 February 1922 at age 48 in Marion County, Ohio.  Circa 1909 he married Sophia O. [--?--] who was born circa 1883 in Ohio. She died 15 March 1980 in Marion County. Harrison was employed by his father in his butchering and stock-buying enterprises, but by 1920 was working with engines and threshers. The couple had four sons: Charles Albert, born circa 1912 and died 28 June 1968 in Marion County; Harrison Gale, Jr., born 1 February 1914 and died 28 September 1991 at age 77 in Marion County; Richard A., born circa 1915; and Lowell E. Franklin, born in 1919 and declared missing in action in WWII at age 25 on 10 April 1944. Lowell was a First Lieutenant 27^th Bomber Squadron 30^th Bomber Group. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and additional Army awards.

                  86      iv.    Edward H. LEFFLER was born 22 June 1876.  He married Sophia C. FATZLER, the daughter of Christian and Philomena (Gornflo) Fatzler, 19 September 1901 in Marion County, Ohio. They had no children.  Sophia was born in January 1879 and died 30 April 1961 in Marion County, Ohio at age 82.  Edward died 11 April 1939 at age 62 in Marion County. He was employed by his father in his butchering and stock-buying enterprises.    

                  87       v.    Harry A. LEFFLER was born in November 1878 and died 10 March 1964 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio at age 85. He was employed by his father in his butchering and stock-buying enterprises, but in the 1920 census was a retail grocer.  Harry never married.

                  88      vi.    Florence M. LEFFLER was born in May 1880 and died before 1930 in Marion County, Ohio  She married Martin V. MILLER circa 1904 in Marion County.  They had no children. Martin was born in October 1877 in Marion County, the son of Frank and Alice Miller.  He was superintendent for a manufacturing company, per the 1910 census; a repair clerk for a steam shovel office in the 1920 census, and a salesman for a steam shovel plant in the1930 census.

                  89     vii.    Elmer F. LEFFLER was born in August 1884 and died 27 October 1943 at age 59 in Marion County, Ohio. Circa 1907 he married Coral M. [--?--] who was born circa 1889 in Ohio and died 2 January 1986 in Marion County. Elmer was a butcher and by 1920 owned his own grocery in the city of Marion. Elmer and Coral had children Doris J., born circa 1908; Donna M., born circa 1911; Elmer William, born 30 December 1911 and died 10 April 1979 in Marion at age 67; Marguerite, born circa 1915, and Eugene F., born 22 December 1920 and died 21 April 2003 at age 82.

                  90    viii.    Emil T. LEFFLER was born 12 January 1887 and died of tuberculosis 30 January 1912 at age 25. He was buried in Marion Cemetery, Marion County, Ohio.

                             ix.    Ennis LEFFLER was born in October 1871 and died of spinal fever 4 March 1873.

 

     26.  John A.⁴ EBERHART (Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 25 June 1846 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio.  He married Amelia UNDERWOOD 2 March 1873 in Marion, Marion County. She was the daughter of Jesse and Isabell (Sergent) Underwood, and was born 14 September 1846 in Claridon Township, Marion County

     Between about 1878 and 1890 John, with his growing family, spent some time living in the west in the states of Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas. They then moved back to Marion County and resided in the city of Marion.

     Amelia died 11 June 1906 in Marion County at age 59 and was buried in Claridon Cemetery, Claridon Township, Marion County. John died 16 February 1933 in Marion at age 86.  He, too, was buried in Claridon Cemetery.

     Known children of John A.⁴ EBERHART and Amelia UNDERWOOD were as follows:

                  91       i.    Ivera Truman⁵ EBERHART was born circa 1874.  He died as an infant in 1874.

             +   92      ii.    Sarah Isabel EBERHART, born 24 October 1875 in Marion County, Ohio; married James Dunlap SLATON.

             +   93     iii.    Horra Preston EBERHART, born 15 January 1878 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio; married Martha J. CLARDY; married Matilda Dora FIANT.

                  94      iv.    Jesse Leroy EBERHART was born 29 March 1879 in Brownstown, Fayette County, Illinois; and died 2 October 1923 in Marion County, Ohio at age 45. Jesse, who also went by the name Leroy, worked as a machinist for the railroad in 1920. He married Helen May OSMUN 21 October 1915 and they had two daughters: Mary Belle, born circa 1918 who married [--?--] WELCH, and Dorothy J., who never married. Helen was born circa 1887 in Ohio and died 29 June 1963 in Marion County at age 75.

                  95       v.    Jennie Florence EBERHART was born 19 December 1881 in State Center, Marshall County, Iowa.  She died 28 January 1962 in Marion County, Ohio at age 80. Jennie never married.

                  96      vi.    Pearl Adaline EBERHART was born 16 May 1885 in Kansas.  She died 10 May 1962 in Marion County, Ohio at age 76. Pearl never married.

 

     27.  Magdalena⁴ EBERHART (Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 11 October 1847 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio and died of cerebral apoplexy 28 July 1924 at age 76 in that county.  She was buried 30 July 1924 in Marion Cemetery. Lena, as she was called, married Henry David KRENKLER 12 November 1871 in Marion County. Henry was born in October 1844 in Germany and emigrated to the U.S. around 1867. He became a naturalized citizen in 1874. Throughout his life he worked as a pattern maker and at one point was employed by a steam shovel company in Marion.  Lena and Henry divorced before 1898 and he married a woman named Rosa. Lena never remarried.

     Known children of Magdalena⁴ EBERHART and Henry David KRENKLER were as follows:

                  97       i.    Fred⁵ KRENKLER.

                  98      ii.    William H. KRENKLER was born circa 1872 in Marion County, Ohio. He was a molder and in 1920 worked for a steam shovel company. William lived with his mother until her death.

             +   99     iii.    Emma Sarah KRENKLER, born 27 November 1873 in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio; married Josiah CRAVEN.

                100      iv.    Frank Ludwig KRENKLER was born 4 February 1875 in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio. He died 20 July 1973 at age 78 in Franklin County, Ohio at the Columbus State Hospital where he had been a patient for many years. An item in the 15 November 1920 edition of 'The Marion Star' stated that he " was arrested by officers of the Erie and locked up for safekeeping. Following the arrest it was learned that he had escaped from the state asylum." As early as 1902 Frank was in trouble with the law and was "charged with insanity."

                102      vi.    Bertha KRENKLER was born in August 1881 in Marion County, Ohio.

                103     vii.    Lillian B. KRENKLER was born 12 November 1889 in Marion County, Ohio and died 14 October 1974 at age 84 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.  She married Clyde WARD circa 1909 in Marion County and they had a daughter Helen born circa 1911 in that county. Clyde was born in July 1883 in Marion County, the son of George W. and Sophronia A. Ward. In the 1910 federal census he was a chauffeur for a private livery and later worked as an auto mechanic in Marion. He died 6 May 1960 at age 76 in Columbus.

 

     30.  Margaret⁴ EBERHART (Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 1 August 1854 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio and married Richard S. SQUIBB, a farmer and carpenter, son of Thomas and Lydia Squibb, on 6 October 1880 in Marion County. Richard was born in August 1850 in Marion County and died 11 July 1913 at age 62 in Claridon Township, Marion County. Margaret, or Maggie as she was called, died 24 December 1938 at age 84 in Marion County.    

     Known children of Margaret⁴ EBERHART and Richard S. SQUIBB, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                104       i.    Charles W.⁵ SQUIBB was born in September 1882. He lived with his mother until her death.

                105      ii.    Sarah Myrtle SQUIBB was born in February 1886. Her name was given as Myrtle S. in the 1910 census.

                106     iii.    Clara G. SQUIBB was born in February 1892.

 

     33.  William P.⁴ EBERHART (Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born in February 1861 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio, and died before 1900 in Marion County.  He married Mary Edith AUSTIN 4 October 1893 in Marion County, Ohio.

     Mary Edith, or Edith as she was known, was born 3 May 1868 in Claridon Township, Marion County, the daughter of Alexander and Matilda (Mitchell) Austin. After William died she married circa 1903 [--?--] Sowle. In the 1920 census she was enumerated as Edith Sowle in the city of Marion, divorced. With her were her daughter Florence and granddaughter Dorothy and grandson William.  Edith died 2 July 1949 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio at age 81. 

     Known children of William P.⁴ EBERHART and Mary Edith AUSTIN were:

     35.  Sarah Emma⁴ EBERHART (Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 7 November 1865 in Claridon, Marion County, Ohio, and married Thomas David WILLIAMS 17 October 1888 in Marion County, Ohio. He was born in February 1863 in Ohio and died 9 May 1941 in Marion County at age 78. Thomas and Sarah lived in Marion where he was foreman for a steam shovel company in 1910 and in 1920 a railroad foreman. Upon his retirement they moved to Big Island Township in Marion County

     Known children of Sarah Emma⁴ EBERHART and Thomas D. WILLIAMS, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                108       i.    Florence⁵ WILLIAMS was born in December 1889. Her name was given as M. Florence in the 1910 census.

                109      ii.    Phoebe E. WILLIAMS was born in February 1891.

                110     iii.    Charles E. WILLIAMS was born in December 1895.

     79.  Mary Magdalena⁵ KRANER (Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 22 February 1863 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio.  She married William GIMBEL, son of Henry and Anna Maria (Heuss) Gimbel, on 13 December 1881 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  Mary died on 12 June 1946 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 83 years, 3 months and 21 days. Cause of death was acute endocarditis due to arteriosclerosis.  She was buried 15 June 1946 in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Randolph County. Mary was a Lutheran and member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Union City.

     William Gimbel was born 3 December 1856 in Union City, Darke County, Ohio and christened 24 February 1924 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Union City, Randolph County, Indiana.  He died 25 August 1941 in Union City at age 84. He had been seriously ill with dropsy for some time and on the day of his death asked his daughter Hazel to bring him his knife collection. He then used one of the knives to stab himself in the abdomen in an attempt to ease the pain from swelling and bloating caused by his illness. The cause of death on his death certificate was a self-inflicted stab wound to the abdomen. William was buried 28 August 1941 in Union City Cemetery, Union City.

     William and his family lived for many years in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana where he was a blacksmith. Shortly after 1900 he relocated to Union City, in Randolph County, Indiana. According to his daughter Florence, he built his blacksmith shop on the east side of the very end of North Howard Street in Union City and lived in the upstairs of the shop with his family while their house was being built.  William at one time owned a buggy shop, but it went out of business when gasoline-powered automobiles became popular. During World War II, when gasoline was rationed, he built horse-pulled milk delivery wagons.  In 1908 William is listed in the Union City Directory as a blacksmith living at 814 North Howard Street with his wife Mary and minor children George, Clarence and Hazel.

                129      vi.    George Adam GIMBEL was born 13 June 1895 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana.  He died 9 May 1952 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio,at age 56.  George was buried 12 May 1952 in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. George, who never married, was a horseshoer in Company E, 309 Engineers in WWI and served overseas in France where he was gassed. According to Mary (Barefoot) Hansen, his niece, he felt the effects of the gassing for the remainder of his life and became a heavy drinker to manage the pain and disability.  He was left with a limp from a compound fracture of the leg suffered in a car wreck after a night of drinking.  He was a blacksmith, however, by 1930 when he lived with his sister Hazel and family in Dayton, Ohio he was an assembler at the National Cash Register company.

                130     vii.    Clarence Otto GIMBEL was born 22 May 1901 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  He died 10 December 1965 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 64 and was buried 13 December 1965 in Lisbon Cemetery, Union City, Randolph County. Clarence was a blacksmith and machinist. He married Anna Flossie PETERSON, the daughter of Scott and Rosa Peterson, on 16 November 1946 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. Anna was born 22 July 1893 in Indiana.  She died on 28 September 1989 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 96 and was buried 2 October 1989 in Lisbon Cemetery in Union City.

     82.  Jennie Ellen⁵ KRANER (Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 11 January 1871 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  She died 22 February 1954 in Arcanum, Darke County, Ohio at age 83 and was buried 25 February 1954 in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Miami County, Ohio.

     Jennie married first Abednego “Bud” STEPHENS 31 October 1895. Abednego, the son of Henry Martin and Amanda Maude (Boze) Stephens, was born in 1873 in Darke County, Ohio, and died in 1896 in Florida at age 23.  He was buried in New Teegarden Cemetery, Brown Township, Darke County. On 6 February 1900 in Jay County, Indiana Jennie married second Charles Allen ARMSTRONG, the son of John C. and Asenoth (Money) Armstrong. Charles was born 12 February 1866 in Franklin County, Ohio, and died 24 September 1945 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio at age 79. He was buried in Riverside Cemeter.

     92.  Sarah Isabel⁵ EBERHART (John A.⁴, Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 24 October 1875 in Marion County, Ohio, and died 25 February 1910 in Missouri at age 34. Belle, as she was called, married James Dunlap SLATON 13 March 1898. It was his second marriage and her first.

     James was born in May 1862 in Moniteau County, Missouri, the son of John and Louisa Slaton of Kentucky. The family resided in Moniteau County in 1860, and by 1870 Louisa was widowed. She continued living in Moniteau County through the 1880 census but by 1900 resided in Olean, Miller County, Missouri, the same place in which her son James lived with his family. In her household she had James' daughter from his first marriage, Josephine V., born in November 1883. James also had a son born in August 1885. In the census of 1910 James, a widower, and his three children and mother were in Blackwater Township, Cooper County, Missouri where he was the proprietor of a general store.

     Known children of Sarah Isabel⁵ EBERHART and James Dunlap SLATON were:

                147       i.    Ola Angeline⁶ SLATON was born 21 July 1901 in Missouri and died in December 1986 at age 85. She married Chester A. WRIGHT circa 1923 in Missouri and they had a daughter. Chester, a grocer, was born 29 January 1887 in Iowa and died in June 1966 at age 79.  The couple last resided in Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri

 

     93.  Horra Preston⁵ EBERHART (John A.⁴, Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 15 January 1878 in Marion County, Ohio. He died 16 August 1929 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio at age 51.

     Horra was a tool and die tradesman and around 1915 was laid off from the Marion Steam Shovel Company. He went to Akron and was hired at Firestone Tire and Rubber.

     Horra married first Martha J. CLARDY in 1899. She was born in July 1879 in Illinois and died of tuberculosis in 1904 in Marion County, Ohio at age 25. He married second Matilda Dora FIANT, known as Dora, in May 1907 in Marion County. Dora, the daughter of Peter and Catherine J. (Austin) Fiant, was born 23 August 1876 in Claridon, Marion County, and died 13 December 1954 in Summit County at age 78.

     Known children of Horra Preston⁵ EBERHART and Martha J. CLARDY were:

                148       i.    Harold Gail⁶ EBERHART was born 19 August 1900 in Marion County, Ohio and died in 1978 at age 78. As an infant he was cared for by his aunts Jennie and Pearl Eberhart in order to protect him from his mother’s tuberculosis. After his mother’s death and his father’s remarriage he lived part-time with his father and stepmother, but eventually it was decided that it was in his best interests to be raised in only one home, and so he stayed with his aunts. In 1917 Harold went to Akron to live with his father and stepmother, then to Kansas to work for the Rock Island Railroad. He retired as a foreman in charge of railroad repair yards in 1964 with 34 years of service. In 1927 Harold married Martha Heuben ZINN, who was born 10 February 1891 in Missouri, and in the 1930 federal census the couple resided in Quintaro Township, Wyandotte County, Kansas. With them was his stepdaughter Martha Zinn, age 14, born in Kansas. Harold and Martha divorced (she died in August 1972 in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri at age 81) and Harold married Gertrude Koch. She was born 23 September 1904 in Kansas and died in August 1984 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas at age 79.

     Known children of Horra Preston⁵ EBERHART and Matilda Dora FIANT, both born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                149       i.    Ruth Amelia⁶ EBERHART was born 21 August 1909 and died 9 December 1997 in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio at age 88. She married Orville R. FAIR who was born 21 January 1905 and died in Portage County 5 January 1997 at age 91. The couple had a daughter.

                150      ii.    John Fiant EBERHART was born 27 January 1911 and died 26 February 1999 in Summit County, Ohio at age 88. He was buried in Northlawn Cemetery, Cuyahoga Falls, in that county. John married Ellen Eilene WERNTZ 5 October 1940 in Summit County and they had a son and a daughter. Ellen was born 25 May 1917 in Summit County, the daughter of Edward James and Lydia Ellen (Chamberlain) Werntz. She died 30 July 2000 at age 83 in Summit County.

 

     99.  Emma Sarah⁵ KRENKLER (Magdalena⁴ Eberhart, Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 27 November 1873 in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio and died of bronchial pneumonia 14 April 1935 in Marion County, Ohio at age 61.  She was buried 17 April 1935 in Marion Cemetery.

     Emma married Josiah CRAVEN 20 April 1893 in Marion County. Josiah, the son of Thomas Craven, was born 15 December 1868 in Yorkshire, England and emigrated to the United States in 1883.  He became a naturalized citizen in 1890.  Emma and Josiah resided in the city of Marion where he was a machinist for a steam shovel company. Josiah died of bronchial pneumonia and myocarditis 11 October 1949 in Marion County at age 80, and was buried in Marion Cemetery

     Known children of Emma Sarah⁵ KRENKLER and Josiah CRAVEN, all born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                153       i.    Lester Joseph⁶ CRAVEN was born 1 September 1894. About 1916 he married Adeline RANKIN, who was born circa 1898 in Ohio, and they had sons Ralph L., born 15 October 1917 and died 6 June 1990 in Franklin County, Ohio; and Bill R., born 1 June 1921 and died 3 March 1994 in Franklin County. Both sons were born in Marion County. Lester was a machinist, like his father.

                154      ii.    Gladys CRAVEN was born in November 1896.

                155     iii.    Marion Thomas CRAVEN was born 20 January 1898 and died in November 1978 at age 80. Circa 1919 he married Edith [--?--] who was born 17 December 1898 and died 24 April 1991 at age 92.

                156      iv.    Nelson Alfred CRAVEN was born 18 November 1899 in Marion County, Ohio and died 21 April 1998 in that county at age 98. A machinist, he married Marie [--?--], born circa 1904 in Ohio.

                157       v.    Lella Lena CRAVEN, born 2 October 1902 in Illinois and died 8 May 1993 in Marion County, Ohio at age 90. She married [--?--] MCDONALD circa 1928 in Marion County.

                158      vi.    Ruth A. CRAVEN was born circa 1910 in Marion County, Ohio and never married.  She died 8 April 1970 in Marion County.

     101.  Charles Noah⁵ KRENKLER (Magdalena⁴ Eberhart, Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 16 May 1879 in Marion County, Ohio and died 25 November 1953 at age 73 in Los Angeles County, California.  He married Opal LARUE 12 September 1899 in Marion County.

     In 1910 Charles was in Vallejo, Solano County, California in the Navy Yard at Mare Island, a cook on the U.S.S. California.  After his Navy service he and his wife Opal settled in Redlands, San Bernardino County, California where he was a retail grocer and a butcher.

     Opal was born 17 July 1881 in Ohio, the daughter of Elisha L. and Millie A. LaRue.  She died 21 June 1974 in San Bernardino County, California at age 92.

     Known children of Charles Noah⁵ KRENKLER and Opal LARUE were:

                160       i.    Rue Thorwald⁶ KRENKLER was born 30 December 1912 in Illinois.  He died 26 August 1994 in San Bernardino County, California at age 81.

    

     107.  Bessie Florence⁵ EBERHART (William P.⁴, Sarah³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 24 June 1894 in Claridon Township, Marion County, Ohio. Known as Florence, she died 28 November 1972 in Morrow County, Ohio at age 78.  On 21 September 1913 Florence married Leo Felster DELAUDER, who was born 12 January 1894 in Ohio, and died 30 April 1961 in Marion County at age 67. Florence and Leo were divorced before 1920 and she then married John Burton ULINE 10 June 1927 in Marion County. John was born 9 March 1894 in Marion, Marion County, the son of Herbert D. and Margaret Uline, and died 18 February 1944 at age 49 in Marion County. He was an electrician for a steam shovel plant.

     Known children of Bessie Florence⁵ EBERHART and Leo Felster DELAUDER, both born in Marion County, Ohio, were as follows:

                162       i.    Dorothy Virginia⁶ DELAUDER was born 12 March 1915 and died 3 November 2001 in Marion County, Ohio at age 86. She married Leverne Wesley BURKEPILE 13 November 1933 in Newport, Kentucky. He was born 8 November 1912 in Marion County and died 21 May 1973 in that county. They had three children.

     124.  Harry William⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 28 December 1882 in Ft. Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio. He died 8 October 1957 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 74, and was buried 11 October 1957 in Union City Cemetery.

      Harry married first Jessie M. MOOTS in December 1907 in Union City, Randolph County.  They divorced 2 January 1911 in Randolph County and she later married Harry R. Finney. Jessie was born 24 May 1890 in Mentor, Lake County, Ohio, the daughter of Charles L. Moots, an engineer born in Logan County, Ohio, and Mary Hawkins, born in Auglaize County, Ohio. Her parents divorced and in 1930 Charles lived with Jessie and her husband Harry in Maumee, Lucas County, Ohio. Jessie died in May 1964 at age 74.

      Harry married second Debbie DEBELL 29 October 1917 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. Debbie was born 29 January 1889 in Ohio, the daughter of James and Sarah Elizabeth (Zimmer) Debell. She was christened 20 May 1904 in Church of Christ in Columbus. Debbie died 3 September 1978 at age 89, and was buried 7 September 1978 in Union City Cemetery. She and Harry had no children.

      Harry worked variously as a blacksmith, a paint contractor and as superintendent of Allbrand Carriage Factory in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana.

      Known children of Harry William⁶ GIMBEL and Jessie M. MOOTS were:

                165       i.    Richard Earl⁷ GIMBEL was born circa 1911 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. He was listed as "son" to Harry Finney in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, and his last name was given as Finney. It is thought that he assumed the surname 'Gimbel'' as an adult.

 

     125.  Edith Mabel⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 22 April 1885 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana, and died 15 April 1969 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 83.  She was buried 18 April 1969 in Lisbon Cemetery, Union City.

     On 13 January 1905 in Union City Edith married William Alva REISH, the son of Jacob and Lydia Reish, who was born 23 March 1884 in Randolph County, Indiana.  He died 27 July 1960 in Union City, Randolph County at age 76, and was buried in Lisbon Cemetery.  Alva, as he was known, and Edith were enumerated in Mississiniwa Township, Darke County, Ohio in the 1920 and 1930 censuses. They later lived in Union City.

     Known children of Edith Mabel⁶ GIMBEL and William Alva REISH, both born in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana, were as follows:

                166       i.    Esther Marie⁷ REISH was born 30 December 1905. She died 3 February 1992 in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana at age 86, and was buried 7 February 1992 in Spartanburg Cemetery, Randolph County. On 24 February 1940 Edith married Everett E. BROWN. He was born 7 December 1912 in Randolph County, the son of William and Mary (Brewster) Brown. Everett died 1 May 2004 in Randolph County at age 91, and was buried 4 May 2004 in Spartanburg Cemetery. Everett was a farmer and was later employed by Syler Seeds in Winchester.

                167      ii.    Mary Ada REISH was born 11 August 1907.  She died 5 March 1978 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana at age 70, and was buried in Lisbon Cemetery, Union City. Mary never married.

 

     126.  Earl⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 27 July 1886 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  He married Cora Edith Mann HORNE 12 August 1916 in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana. On 30 October 1918, at age 32, Earl was burned to death in a house fire in Bellefontaine, Logan County, Ohio. He was buried 2 November 1918 in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Randolph County. Earl was a blacksmith for Big Four Railroad.

     Cora was born 29 September 1890 in Spartansburg, Randolph County, Indiana, the daughter of David M. and Jennie R. Mann. She died 21 January 1955 in Lakeview, Logan County, Ohio at age 64, and was buried 24 January 1955 in Union City Cemetery.  Cora was married first to [--?--] Horne and had a son Melvin D., born 28 June 1911. In the 1930 federal census Cora was with son Melvin and his wife, her daughter Treva, and her mother Jennie R. Mann in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio where Melvin worked at Frigidaire. Melvin died 26 August 1988 in Texas at age 77. His last known residence was in Pharr, Hidalgo County. Melvin’s wife Nina F. [--?--] was born 12 November 1910 in Ohio, and died 15 April 2005 at age 94. Her last known residence was Casa Grande, Pinal County, Arizona.

     Known children of Earl⁶ GIMBEL and Cora Edith Mann HORNE were:

          +   168       i.    Treva Mae⁷ GIMBEL, born 27 April 1918 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana; married Virgil Honess WARD; married Lee CLARK.

 

     127.  Irvin Frank⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 1 October 1888 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.  He married Mary Kyle RIDDLEBARGER 2 January 1915 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. At the time of his marriage Irvin was employed as a mechanic at a factory in Galt, Ontario, Canada. By 1920 he worked at Union City Wheel Works as a blacksmith and was the last employee to be let go when they closed their shop. He and Kyle, as she was called, lived in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio by 1930 and Irvin was an inspector at Dayton Power & Light Company, a position he held for 35 years.  He died 27 October 1972 in Dayton at age 84 and was buried in Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery, Clark County, Ohio.

     Kyle was born 5 January 1895 in Ridgeville, Randolph County, Indiana, the daughter of Oscar and Belle F. Riddlebarger.  She died 8 March 1973 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 78, and was buried in Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery.

     Known children of Irvin Frank⁶ GIMBEL and Mary Kyle RIDDLEBARGER were:

     128.  Hazel Dora⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 5 February 1891 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana.  She married Ross Franklyn BAREFOOT, son of Walter Augustus and Anna Elizabeth (Lewellen) Barefoot, 24 December 1918 in Union City. Ross was born 2 April 1889 in Cambridge City, Wayne County, Indiana, and died at age 57 on 21 April 1946 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio of unaphalactic shock from a bee sting.  He was buried 24 April 1946 in Memorial Park, Dayton. Ross was a jack of all trades, and held many jobs including meter reader for the Dayton, Power & Light Company, gas furnace repairman, and inspector for Chrysler Airtemp. He also worked for Inland Corporation and United Aircraft Products, and raised chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and bees.

     Upon the death of her husband, Hazel moved to California to live with her daughter Mary and son-in-law Albert.  She returned to Indiana and worked as a cook at the Union City Hospital from 1952-1956, and then resettled with her daughter Mary in the Los Angeles area.  She died 20 February 1971 in Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California at age 80. The cause of death was cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction. At the time of her death she was an active member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens and the Lutheran Church of the Cross.

     Known children of Hazel Dora⁶ GIMBEL and Ross Franklyn BAREFOOT, all born in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, were as follows:

                171      ii.    Robert Earl BAREFOOT married Mary Ellen DOTTS 31 January 1942 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Mary Ellen was born 31 January 1923 in Terra Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Rosetta ‘Susie’ Pearl (Gibson) Dotts. She died 11 January 2007 in San Diego, California at age 83 of a brain aneurysm, and was buried in El Camino Memorial Park in that city. Robert and Mary Ellen had a son Robert Dean and daughter Carolyn Sue.

          +   172     iii.    Dale Eugene BAREFOOT, born 2 August 1923; married Agnes Josephine SCHULZE.

                173      iv.    Mary Elizabeth BAREFOOT married Albert HANSEN 6 April 1946 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Albert  was born 6 November 1913 in Cotesfield, Howard County, Nebraska, the son of Jens Peter and Carrie E. (Andersen) Hansen, both born in Denmark.  He died 3 August 1989 in San Bernardino County, California at age 75 and was buried 12 August 1989 in Memorial Park, Dayton.  Albert was an attorney for 26 years, retiring as Senior Legal Counsel for Allstate Insurance Company in Los Angeles. Mary and Albert had no children.

                174       v.    Harold Edgar BAREFOOT married Pauline Lucille VANCE and the couple had a daughter Rebecca Jean.

 

     131.  Florence Marie⁶ GIMBEL (Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 30 July 1903 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana, and was christened 6 October 1904 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Union City.  She died 23 February 1994 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 90, and was buried 26 February 1994 in Memorial Park, Dayton.

      Florence married Ray Emerson TODD 28 July 1923 in Union City.  Ray, the son of J. Walter and Alameda Viola (Hamilton) Todd, was born 18 February 1898 in Bowen, Hancock County, Illinois.  He was christened 10 February 1924 at Hope Lutheran Church, in Dayton.  Ray was in the Air Force stationed in Austin, Texas in 1918 and for a number of years served as executive secretary for the National Cash Register Company in Dayton. He died 4 August 1966 in Dayton at age 68 and was buried in Memorial Park.

     Known children of Florence Marie⁶ GIMBEL and Ray Emerson TODD, all born in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, were as follows:

     132.  George Henry⁶ STEPHENS (Jennie Ellen⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 3 November 1896 in Indiana.  He died 13 January 1984 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio at age 87, and was buried 17 January 1984 in Sunset Memory Gardens, Darke County.  George married first Mary Agnes SKINNER circa 1918 and they divorced in 1936 in Darke County.  Mary Agnes was born 18 January 1899 in Ohio, and died 25 April 1950 at age 51. George married second Estella M. Shiverdecker HARTRUM in 1940 in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana. Estella, the daughter of John and Mollie Shiverdecker, was born in August 1896 in Darke County and married first Ray Hartrum circa 1914. The couple had sons Paul Leon Hartrum, born 11 February 1915 and died 27 March 1992 in Montgomery County, Ohio; E. Wayne Hartrum, born 31 March 1917 and died 27 July 2000 in Montgomery County, and Bobbie. Estella died 3 November 1974 in Darke County at age 78. Her brother Roy married Celia Armstrong, George’s half sister (see #133 below).

     Known children of George Henry⁶ STEPHENS and Mary Agnes SKINNER, both born in Darke County, Ohio, were as follows:

                178       i.    Leroy Leon⁷ STEPHENS was born 28 December 1919 and died 12 February 2003 at age 83. His last known residence was Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. Leon, as he was also known, married Twila Ruth Bennett ASHE who was born 26 April 1915 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and died 6 September 1995 at age 80; last known residence Girard, Trumbull County, Ohio. Twila was married first to [--?--] Ashe and they had children Joan Elizabeth and Robert Paul. Leon and Twila had children Larry George and Linda Marie.

                179      ii.    Illah Marie STEPHENS married Eugene F. BURKETT who was born 23 September 1922 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Frank H. and Mary C. Burkett. He died in December 1984 at age 62. The couple had a daughter Kathleen Kaye and a son Michael Jerome.

     There were no known children of George Henry⁶ Stephens and Estella M. Shiverdecker Hartrum.

 

     133.  Celia Caroline⁶ ARMSTRONG (Jennie Ellen⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 11 July 1902 in Indiana.  She died 18 January 1980 in Ohio at age 77, and was buried in Block Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio.

     Celia married Roy L. SHIVERDECKER 23 December 1922.  Roy was born 28 May 1898 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of John and Mollie Shiverdecker. His sister Estella married George H. Stephens, Celia’s half brother (see #132 above) Roy died 28 November 1982 in Ohio at age 84, and was buried in Block Cemetery.

     Known children of Celia Caroline⁶ ARMSTRONG and Roy L. SHIVERDECKER were as follows:

                180       i.    Evelyn Lucille⁷ SHIVERDECKER married Harold John STUCK. Their children were Evelyn Marlene, Carl Leroy, Shirley Darlene and Jeannette Marie.

                181      ii.    Wilma Irene SHIVERDECKER was born 8 August 1926 in Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio, and died 12 May 2002 in Miami County, Ohio at age 75. She was buried in Highland Cemetery, Covington, Miami County, Ohio. Wilma married Paul Richard ROUTSON and their children were Franklin Leroy and Janet Lynn.

                182     iii.    Richard Lee SHIVERDECKER married Margaret Patricia ROWE and their children were Dennis Lee and Diana Lynn.

                183      iv.    Kenneth Duane SHIVERDECKER married Janet Ellen LEEPER and their children were Sheila Renee and Brian Duane.

 

     134.  Gerald Ronald⁶ ARMSTRONG (Jennie Ellen⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 2 September 1903 in Darke County, Ohio. He died 23 July 1980 in that county at age 76.

     Gerald married first Laura Myrtle HECKATHORNE, the daughter of Edward R. and Minnie S. Heckathorne, 30 September 1922 in Darke County. She was born 15 December 1896 in Twin Township, Darke County, and died 7 January 1929 in Darke County at age 32. He then married Viola Mae POWELL who was born 17 December 1902 in Ohio. Viola was married first to Reuben Powell and they had sons Charles P. Powell, born in 1923 and died in 1948 in a plane crash in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana; and Donald Lee Powell. By 1930 Viola and Reuben were divorced and she and her two sons were lodgers in a private home in Adams Township, Darke County where Viola worked as a servant.

     Known children of Gerald Ronald⁶ ARMSTRONG and Laura Myrtle HECKATHORNE, both born in Darke County, Ohio, were as follows:

Generation Seven

 
     168.  Treva Mae⁷ GIMBEL (Earl⁶, Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 27 April 1918 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana, and died 24 April 1986 in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio at age 67. She married first Virgil Honess WARD 27 May 1938 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. The son of Thomas J. and Viola M. Ward, he was born 18 January 1912 and died 21 September 1962 at age 50.  Treva married second Lee CLARK.

     Known children of Treva Mae⁷ GIMBEL and Virgil Honess WARD were:

                191       i.    Arlyn Lee⁸ WARD was born 7 July 1943 and 17 June 1989 at age 45. She never married and her last known residence was Springfield, Clark County, Ohio.

 

     169.  William Oscar⁷ GIMBEL (Irvin Frank⁶, Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 22 November 1915 in Indiana. He died 2 April 1997 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina at age 81, and was buried 4 April 1997 in Greenbriar Memorial Park, Columbia.

     William graduated from Fairview High School and attended the University of Dayton.  He spent 39 years with the National Cash Register Company in Dayton before becoming general manager of Oak Creek Development Corporation in 1973.  From 1960 to 1965 William was mayor of Centerville in Montgomery County, Ohio.  In 1979 he moved to Columbia, South Carolina.  William served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II.

    William married Louise LAWRENCE 2 October 1937 and they had a son. Louise was born 18 June 1915 and died 22 January 1988 in Columbia, South Carolina at age 72.  She was buried 24 January 1988 in Greenbriar Memorial Cemetery.

 

     170.  Walter William⁷ BAREFOOT (Hazel Dora⁶ Gimbel, Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 8 November 1919 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, and died 30 November 2002 in that city at age 83.

     He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and for 30 years worked for the National Cash Register Company in Dayton as an assembler and foreman. He also owned and operated Barefoot Resort, a fishing camp in Cedarville, Mackinac County, Michigan.

     Walt married first Freda Eleanor MOORMAN 8 April 1939 in Dayton. Freda, the daughter of Frederick and Edna (Hank) Moorman, was born 21 July 1916 in Celina, Mercer County, Ohio. She died 26 December 1988 in Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida at age 72, and was buried 30 December 1988 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Walter and Freda had four children: Janice Eleanor, Carol Ann, Deborah Jean and Walter William III.  Walter married second Vivian Marie Fabian SPARKS 14 December 1990 in Union, Montgomery County, Ohio.

 

     172.  Dale Eugene⁷ BAREFOOT (Hazel Dora⁶ Gimbel, Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 2 August 1923 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, and died 11 May 2004 in Florida at age 80. He was buried 17 May 2004 in Memorial Park, Dayton.

     Dale served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and for 37 years was an assembler for the National Cash Register Company in Dayton. He retired in 1985.

     Dale married Agnes Josephine ‘Jo’ SCHULZE 7 February 1948 in Dayton, Ohio. Jo, the daughter of Louis and Henrietta (Berke) Schulze, was born 17 June 1924 in Minster, Auglaize County, Ohio.  She died 24 August 1996 in Pinellas County, Florida at age 72, and was buried 29 August 1996 in Memorial Park. Dale and Joe had five children: Constance Joyce, Kathleen Louise, Daniel Eugene, Gail Lynn and Douglas Edward.

    

     175.  Carolyn Jeannette⁷ TODD (Florence Marie⁶ Gimbel, Mary Magdalena⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 19 October 1925 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, and died 22 February 2006 at age 80 in Charlottesville, Charlottesville County, Virginia. She married James Alvin SHANNON 16 August 1947 in Dayton. He was born 29 January 1921 in Fairburn, Fulton County, Georgia, and died 5 December 1984 in Washington, District of Columbia at age 63.  James was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Fairfax County, Virginia.  The son of Virgil Quillan, Jr. and Lula (Johnston) Shannon, he served as an Army Air Force B-25 bomber pilot in New Guinea during World War II.  James transferred to the Air Force when it became independent in 1947.  His postwar assignments included command of a squadron in Germany and of a wing in Britain.  James also was chief of the reconnaissance division in the directorate of operational requirements at Air Force headquarters, and deputy director for operations at the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon. He received three Legions of Merit and two Air Medals. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General and among his assignments was duty as secretary to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Carolyn and James had children Peggy Sue and James Alvin, Jr.

 

     184.  Robert Keith⁷ ARMSTRONG (Gerald Ronald⁶, Jennie Ellen⁵ Kraner, Caroline⁴ Eberhart, Magdalena³ Yager, Laurent² Jaeger, Laurent¹) was born 26 August 1925 in Darke County, Ohio.  He died 3 November 1989 in Ohio at age 64, and was buried in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Darke County. In the Social Security Death Index his name is given as R. Keith Armstrong.

     Keith married first Marjorie Mae WINCHELL who was born in 1927. She died 17 September 1973 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 46, and was buried in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Keith married second Twila Maxine HARRIS.

     Known children of Robert Keith⁷ Armstrong and Marjorie Mae Winchell were:
