Stuart Tourney Report from Hammerhead - September 27, 1998

The tournament was in Stuart, Florida. It was run by my father, Clyde Shelton. We got there 30 minutes before the start, a group of regulars had just pulled up, including Michel Fitzgerald, the winner of the Florida regional.

When we stopped, I had to put my decks in my Darth Vader Box, which already had my Star Trek deck in it from the week before.. So it took me awhile to put my cards where they wouldn't be bent. When I walked in, there were already about 6-7 people there. After some talking and making a paper airplane out of a command card, we started the games. We had 10 people at the official start, and then 1 more showed up after the first game started. On to the decks..

I was playing a light side drain on Cloud City with Pucumir, CC Technician and lightsabers. I wasn't expecting to do to well with this deck because my dark beats it about 30-40 each time I play myself. My Dark side was a Tatooine Drain deck, about the same as the one that I used to go undefeated at last years regional in Florida(My lightside lost twice, once in prelims and once in Finals). It was a Tatooine Drain. Now, on to the games...

Game 1 (My LS vs Tommy Minton's DS) Mine CC:GQ/none, His some space location/DODN

This was the first time for me to play Tommy, even though he has come to the last 3-4 tournaments my dad has run. He usually places in the top 6, and I didn't know what to expect. Well, it was a Space domination, with Do or do not, and then he gets resistance with Twi'lek. I got wedge in my opening hand, so all I needed was the Falcon and Cpt. Han. Well a turn or 2 later I got Cpt. Han, and then I got the Falcon as my last card in my Draw deck. By then he controled 1 system and I had a drain at 1 or 2 sites. I deployed The Falcon with Cpt. Han and Wedge, then he tried to play dark maneuvers on his squadron Tie, I sensed it, and lost 2 cards, that probaly won the game for me. From then on I was draining for 2 at 3 sites and he was draining me for out 3-4 a turn. I was stopping his drains with the Falcon. Eventually resistance was no longer fulfilled and I was draining for 8-9. In the end I won by 14.

High Points: My deck winning.
Low Points: me forgetting to make he redraw his 6's for destiny with cpt. Han. So Far: 2(+14)

Game 2 (My DS vs Michael Fitrzgerald's LS) Mine H:WC/BFHI,his Y:TR/TINT

I hadn't played Mike for 3-4 months in a tournament even though we both go to them often. He almost always gets #1. So, I have to say I was a little nervous. He started with the Throne Room and I started with the Wampa Cave. As he picked up his and he exclaimed "sweet", so I was nervous. He got out 2 sites on his first turn, I got down 1. I just drew up my cards every turn and waited for him to deploy something. He did, bargaining table. I knew he was playing with aliens, most likely eloms. So he had Artoo give as a gift in his Audience chamber. He also put down 2 eloms at a site. On my turn I reacted with Dengar, Bossk, and WED droid. I beat up the eloms, and took 4 off my droid. From the on the game went in my favor. I was draining at 3 sites to his 1. I monnoked him for 2 aliens. So in the end I won by 16.

Highpoints: Beating Mike. Also, keeping my DD undefeated.
Lowpoints: Not any I can think of. Maybe only winning by 16, but a win is a win.

So far: 4(+30)

Game 3 (My Ls vs Michael Fitrzgerald's DS)Mine CC:GQ His was JP/BFHI

D'oh! I really didn't want to play him with my Light Deck. Let me just say this, 3rd turn Darth and GMT vs PL, *** for LS. Then on he was kicking my ass, and stopping anything I could do. At then end he won by 41, ouch.

Highpoints: None
Lowpoints: Not being able to do anything.

So Far: 4(-11)

Game 4 (My DS, vs Chris Schutz's LS) Mine H:WC/BFHI, his Y:TR/?

Well, I thought he was gonna play same as Mike, so I waited a couple of turns and played a Lost monnok, hopping to get eloms, Well I didn't get any eloms but I did get 2 obis, =). Then we started battling at T:ME, and after about 7 turns of trying Bubo ate Luke!. That was bad for him. He got Artoo with a gift in his AC. I put down Darth and GMT against Leia and an monk, but I didn't have enough to battle. He then Nabruned to H:WC and play Uncontrollable Fury on Darth.. Then on it was a drain race. I broke Artoo's cover with Lt. Pol Treidum. After that I won by 18.

Highpoints: Keeping my DS undefeated, Bubo eating Luke and another character.
Lowpoints: Not waiting a turn for Darth and GMT, I could have won by a lot more..

Overall: 4th Place 6(+7)

Places of Opponents:
Michael Fitrzgerald/ 1st Place, 6(+75)
Chris Schutz/ 5th Place, 4(+13)
Tommy Minton/ 6th Place, 4(+1)

Not a bad tourney, but I need a better LS...
