HammerHead's Tournament Report

Date: Sunday November 29th, 1998
Location: (West Palm Beach)

My second post-SE tourney, with a prize being a Box of SE. I could use the box seeing that in my 4 boxes I didn't get Jabba, TK422, or Hidden base, MWYHL, ISB ops, OR HDADTJ. I took with me a DS Ord Mantell ops DS deck and a Dantooine Base ops. LS deck. 15 people showed up, 1 of which was Mike Fitzgerald, Florida's #1 ranked player and worlds contestant. On to the Games.

Game 1: My LS vs ?????? DS ISB/ops/Genaric sites for system drains.
This was a ok game. I only got 1 character in my starting hand and it stayed that way for about 4 turns, I did get down the forest and farm and the swamp I think, which ended up hurting me. He put down sundown on Dantooine and a couple of Probe droids at 2 sites. Along with a Probe droid and ozzel at hoth marker site. I took on 2 Probe droids with Obi and Boshek, I took out both of the droids. Then moved to Forest where he proceeded to put down EPP Darth, and a dune Walker and circled obi, then beat up Boshek for 10 force loss. I was never able to take Dantooine. He spred out his drains with genaric sites and gained a lead. I started to spead out with x-wings at Coruscant, kessel, Kiffex and Tatooine with cpt. Han in Falcon with TPIFF.

He put down 2 Victorys at Coruscant, and made me lose 2 force because my S-foils were open. I then put down 3 x-wings and replaced them with X-wing Assualt Squad.. then I saw I had had a X-wing assualt there but thought it was an x-wing... doh. But with s-foils and organized attack I wrecked the victorys and made him loose all but 2 force. I then landed my x-wings to stop his drains, and then drained him out, I won by 16.

Highlights: Destroying Executor on 3rd turn with 4 x-wings.
Lowlights: Never setting up Dantooine base ops.
2(+16)

Game 2: My DS vs Austin Bates's Space Mains deck
I only had 12 ops in the deck, so I didn't set up fast, I did set up before him. He wasn't very good and I won the game easy. I did add to the fun by holding off his fleet with WED droid, Bossk in hounds tooth and the Executor.

Highlights: Winning by 42
Lowlights: Not a tough game
4(+58)

So, now I am in first, with Mike in third, so we both play the same side and can't play each other, it is all up to differential now.

Game 3: My LS vs Chris Shultz's Bounty Hunting deck on Tatooine
Well, I have never lost to Chris in tournament or otherwise. He is good though, and he practices with Mike more then anyone else. I had a horrible opening hand, no X-wings. The game only had one battle, in which I drew a 0 with obi against Bane and Galid in the Audience Chamber. Then obi spent the rest of the game running. On about the second turn he took over the farm and I didn't even try to get it back. My rebel fleet and it's a hits served their purpose and my space drains were too heavy. I win by 14.

Highlights: Winning
Lowlights: Only 1 Battle

Game 4: My DS vs Chris Shultz's CC Mains 'n Drains
As luck would have it, I had to play him again. This game I also get a horrible opening hand... only 1 operative. So I just get out a site or 3 and draw and only get 1 more op. His turn he puts down biggs at a CC site and Pucimir at the other. He knew speed was of the essance, and if in the same situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I got out another site and then put down Bane against pucimir (+2 deploy 'cause of goo nee tay) and battled taking out Pucimir and making him lose another force or 2. Then he put some guys down and killed Bane. Things started to look better and I got 2 ops next turn. I was canceling half of his drains with den, and then put down my ops and fliped the objective. Then down comes Obi/Saber/Proficiency, killing an op. I got a drain on him. From then on it was one of the most battle filled games I have ever played. Every now and then darth would show up strangle someone and make him lose another, but he died all 3 times he came out. Battles on Ord had him keep obi alive the entire game with back up. My sundown droids helped me a lot when I had to flip my obj back, and drains during those times were dealt with the den, and controls. The game was a battle to the end, in which I prevailed the winner by 2 force!!.

Highlights: One of the most fun games I have ever played. I still say ops encourage battles.
Lowlights: Having bad opening turns and not being able to trace destinys
8 +74

So, Mike had won all his games also. When the scores were read I was the winner by 1 differential point! So, thankfully that 10 bucks turned into a fun day and a box of SE, inwhich I got my second LS Death Star, about 8 new rares including Jabba. So, trading will probaly see me get the rest the cards I need. Hope you enjoyed.
