3/7/99 - Livingston, NJ - New World Manga
I arrived a little early and saw a # of the usual suspects and a few people I had only seen around once or twice. Some of the top local players were not in attendance but there was some decent competition. I payed my entry fee and got to pick 1 expansion pack, I chose Special Edition, ripped open the pack and saw the wondrous Dark Lord staring right at me, the day was already a success and the tournament hadn't even begun yet!
Decks - same old things, I should really get around to making something new, but they've worked so far. DS - Ralltiir Ops, LS - MWYHL/Mains on CC
1st game - LS vs. ???? DS lots of characters deck
I forget this person's name, he's new, I hadn't seen him around much, he started Tat:JP. He got out to a quick start w/ Gen. Veers and some ability 1 SE character to drain at JP and got out Tatooine. Then he dropped a VCSD at Tatooine. I responded w/ Han on the Falcon to take over Tatooine. He got out the Audience Chamber and some guys there. I dropped Savrip and EPP Leia took over the AC. He responde w/ some guys at the AC, but Leia took care of them while Obi and his Saber took over JP. Luke joined Obi and finished off any resistance. I spread out on CC to finish out the game quickly. Win by 34. 2 (+34)
2nd game - DS vs. Mike Smith's HB/X-wings
Mike and I played this same matchup last week and I won by 6, we both knew what we were in for. I flipped my objective quickly and he got some X-wings out. I made 1 bad mistake and drew to 13 cards, he used Grimtaashed then deployed EPP Luke to a site where I had Comm. Dessane alone, unfortunately 1 of the 5 cards I lost was my Ghhhk, so I lost some force there. Next turn Vader and Tarkin came down to beat up Luke and he lost Luke and some cards. From there I had solid control of Ralltiir and he got out the systems he needed to flip his objective. I got Blizzard 2 at the CC: Downtown Plaza to do some more draining. In space I had Vader's Shuttle stocked w/ Vader and Tarkin and some guys running from X-wings. Eventually the Executor dropped down to do battle w/ X-wings and he flipped his objective. I probed w/ the Executor and Vader's Shuttle and eventually the Avenger. I was able to take control of Kessel for awhile leaving him w/ only his drain at Kiffex. After I found his HB my drains were too much. I drained him out pretty easily. Win by 14. 4 (+48)
3rd game - LS vs. Rob Middleton's JP/Alien Swarm
After some controversy about the 3rd game matchups, things were fixed to the way they should be and me and Rob played (makes sense, we were the 2 highest ranked players). I got off to a terrible start, no sites in my opening hand but I did get an Obi-Wan. He started w/ No Bargain so all
my rebels were deploy +2, ugh. He quickly got out Chall, Gallid, and
dropped some Abyssins and a Gamorrean Guard at the Entrance Cavern.
Mosep soon joined them and I was getting drained for 4 off my reserve
before I could do much! I saved force for a turn and after getting a
good amount saved up decided I needed to move. I lost Grimtaaashed and
got 2 None Shall Pass, 2 Ghhhhk, and 2 Controls (thank god). I dropped
Obi and Tawss at the AC, moved Gallid, lost the battle slightly but
Gallid was out of the way for a little while (Yoda at his Hut made sure I was immune to any attrition). I kept battling and moving ability 1 guys away, got out BoShek to join the fray. Eventually I dropped EPP Han and he had to abandon the AC and I canceled his Scum and Villany. He had a drain of 1 at the Cavern and 1 w/ Zuckuss at JP and he was cancelling my drain at the AC w/ Den of Thieves, an improvement but not much. I drew some cards and found Harc Seff who would proceed to save me from losing much force!
He eventually got out Djas Puhr w/ a Thermal Detonator chasing around Obi and friends and he set up Scum and Villany again. Djas got Clash of Sabered though and Myo and Boelo got squashed in the AC. Meanwhile EPP Han made his way to JP and w/ the help of Bron Burs managed to fight off some Abyssins and Zuckuss. I got in a few Nabrun Leids to battle but he always had a Ghhhk. He battled me at JP w/ the Prophetess and eventually Bane Malar and some cronies fought EPP Han and Chewbacca. Time was running out and I got in 1 last good battle w/ EPP Han, EPP Leia and Chewbacca beating up Bane, but my 3 destines were pretty poor and the damage was minimal. We timed out, I had 20 force left (thanx to Traffic Control), he had only 13. 5 (+68)
4th game - DS vs. Rob Middleton's MWYHL/Mains on CC
I got a 3rd turn flip of my objective, meanwhile he was struggling for force w/ no sites out. He dropped down Tawss Khaa and Kal Fal at the Prefects Office to battle DS-61-2 and Officer Evax, Kal Fal went to the Bacta Tank and DS-61-2 died. Next turn I dropped a Blizzard Walker and Evax hoped aboard. He dropped Kal Fal and Wedge at my swamp and moved Tawss over to face off against Capt. Lennox, a Cadet and a Lobel. I dropped down Bubo to eat and drew to find guys but wasn't having too much luck. Bubo kept eating Kal Fal who was then deposited in the Bacta Tank and redeployed. I eventually got a good hand, dropped DS-61-3, Blizzard 2, another Cadet, Trampled Kal Fal and beat the tar out of Tawss and Wedge thanx to all my imperials being power +1 thanx to Evax at the SPO. I spread out to control all 3 of my Ralltiir sites.
He got out SOS at the Lower Corridor, and Pucimir, Melas and Kal Fal (via the tank) to the Downtown Plaza. I fetched Tarkin from the reserve and dropped Choke Vader w/ his stick and Tarkin to battle at the Plaza. Kal Fal got chocked, Pucimyr hit, he lost everyone and a bunch more force. The game was pretty much over there, I just drained him out. Win by 25. 7 (+93)
I got 10 packs of WB and a Jabba shirt for 1st place. Pulled a WB Leia and some junk. To cap off a good day, I came home and watched my beloved Blue Devils beat the dreaded Tar Holes to win the ACC championship, all and all a pretty darn good day.
