Tourney Report from Blair Beveridge - March 1999

Well this weekend I had my choice between 2 B&B out of town tournies. True I could have played in them both, but once was quite enough. So Patrick Chow and I travelled down to St. Catherines. We didn't have any idea of the level of competition down there, but were very pleased to see the scene in St. Kits was VERY STRONG! The tourn out was good was well with I believe 14-16 players. I recognized one friend who plays in the Toronto scene form time to time, as was soon introduced ot my counterpart, Gold 32...Paul Lewis. Let the games begin!

Game 1 :
OK I drew my DS first and had no idea what kinda deck to play, so I went with CC troops/Sabacc/Dark Deal. I knew it had it's weaknesses versus beatdown, but I had other idea what to play. My first game was against a fellow who had no idea the strength of dark deal. I hope this game helped furthered his knowledge of some of the cards, sorry I don't remember his first name....Win +32

Game 2 :
Now I got my strong deck, and I am playing against a real good player that visits the Toronto scene a lot, Mike Stirling. I start with Manuevering Flaps, and his lack knowledge of this card hurt him. I keep drawing up for a while, he's playing ops. OK I got enough cards for my beatdown on his 2 characters on his planet when low and behold he goes clouds and drops obsedian 8 in there by itself. Needless to say 8 power 5 cloud cars did him in...though he did lower my differential quite a bit from that point...Win +15 (4 +47)

Game 3 :
Perhaps a little cockiness slip into my mind, but it was soon knocked right back into place. Next opponent was Philippe Parise, at the moment the top player in the area, and he laid the smack down on me. First he set up a huge drain on Bothuwui, and then his smackdown with wookies and disruptor pistols was too much. He handed me my butt! But he was a really cool guy who talks really fast :), but has a great knowledge of the game. I had fun losing to him :) Loss -27 (4 +20)

Game 4 :
OK cockiness gone, but now unluckiness kicked in. Even though I just got beat bad, I was still somehow the high player on my side of the draw, hence playing the high player on the other side. Hence Stephen Agnew. Now I had been warned that Stephen was known for his deck construction, and his deck was an attestiment to that. We both were playing ops, and neither of us seemed to want to deploy much. He set up drains totaling 6, 2 in space, 1 on ground. Me I had 6 at 2 planet sites on Bothuwui. We were both setting up our smackdowns, but it was a case of both of us waiting for the other. I was ready first, and should have done it, but I wanted him to give me a chance for a larger smackdown...it never happened. Steve came down with a tonne of DS musicians which when the smoke cleared added to power 40, to my 11. After losing the force, I could not recover. I should have done my smack down while I could...but alas it was not meant to be. Another great guy, Although I got destroyed, I had fun in it :) Loss -29.

Well that was it, and for my troubles I got 3 WB Premiere (Vaders Tie, Dutch and Savrip), plus a japanesse pack of premiere (which contained my good ol favorite TREADWELL DROID!). This was an awesome experience that I would love to repeat. And I never knew the power of ghhhk/houjix till now. Respect to St. Catherines for an awesome tourney! I came 6th (4 -9)

Here's the top 4 players names, I dont have the dif or maybe the order is messed...

1. Philippe Parise 8 (+a lot)
2. Stephen Agnew 8 (+not quite a lot, but very high)
3. Mike Stirling 6 (+I was the only one who beat this guy ?)
4. Yul Beauchamps 6 (+ I think he came 4th, maybe it was 3rd)
