Well this weekend I ran my first tourny as an SM, though I had been a TD for about 3 years....it was like starting all over. Anyway I would love to say I had a record turnout, but unfortunantely we only had 8. But those 8 brought quality over quantity...and I will resurrect the Toronto Scene...oh yes...I will.
Anyway 401 Convenience, where I ran the tourney gave me a great deal on prize support, and was able to reward the players that did come well (a box of the SE plus Prize Support, and a Jabba the Hutt T...is this new ?).
Well to the actual games. I only saw I HB deck....sweet! So Inovation was rewarded with packs :). But with only 8 players I ran a 2 rounder (in the final round, the pairings were the exact same, they just fliped sides).
So onto the decks. I saw some really cool ideas! First of all, my inovation awards went to, in order of awe....
1) Bill Uniac's combo of having a wookie and an elom at the same site...deploying plastoid armor on the wookie, then proceeding to wookie strangle the opposing characters, while also become an undercover spy! Now I rememeber him the listserv about this, but I didn't think he'd pull it off...and although it didn't do all that well, I loved the idea.
2) Ken Kennedy's Alderaan Ops / Our Most Desperate Hour Deck. This deck rocks! He of course started with alderaan ops with the other abilities being supplied by ability 3+ characters, and skiffs for reacting. Now he also had 3 or 4 tatooine docking bays, he loads up up his chatacters on alderaan, makes another do our most desperate hour with the tat docking bay and spaceport docking bay, retriving a tonne of force. It worked very well!
3) Jason ? Kessel Run Deck from Kessel and Rendezvous Point..also worked very well!
4) Andrew Meyer's Droid Deck.....Yes I know this is an old design (EV-9D9 and all) but since it has never been used in this neck of the woods before...and it shocked quite a few of our players.
All in all it was a weird turn of events, with out winner going 3-1 winthout ever playing the top ranked in the draft (was somehow dodging the "big game" of the round, though he was doing really well!)
Anyway the final results, though the diferentials might be a little off are as such.
Well though the turnout was bad, the quality of games was really good. I can't wait to run another!
