1/30 - New Brunswick, NJ - Comic Attitudes - 5 PM
I made the trip over w/ my friend Vikram after a few tune-up games over at his house. We were running a little late, and barely arrived by 5 only to find that the TD Jason was running a little late as well, so we had time to mingle w/ the other locals. Jason soon showed and we got to playing soon after 5.
my decks:
DS- Ralltiir Ops, pretty much the same as the other one I used
LS- Mains & Toys, starting Hidden Base, pull Dagobah and Yoda's Hut, and maybe Tatooine if needed for TPTIFF, heavy dose of EPPs.
1st game - DS vs. Vikrams HB/CC/Mains & Toys
We'd already played 3 times today at his house, thankfully neither of us had seen these decks so we didn't really know what to expect. He started Goo Nee Tay, me Bad Feeling Have I. I got my objective flipped 3rd turn, but stupidly deployed Vader on Ralltiir where he was stranded. Vik got out SOS and some guys at the Lower Corridor to drain for 2. Eventually Obi hit the Carbonite Chamber (I had out my Lobel to stop any Nabrun Leids). I used my objective to search for the cards I needed for Decree and set it up by controlling Ralltiir, Coruscant and 1 site. His drains were cut down to 1, while I was draining for 5 on Raltiir and 1 at Coruscant. He spread out to the Downtown Plaza and I deployed a stocked Walker to block the drain. I trampled a few of his guys, he lost to the Savrip to keep alive, but my drains on Ralltiir were too much. Win by 22.
2nd game - vs. someone's DS Bespin/Clouds deck
The DS really dominated round 1 (1 light side player won) so I was
matched up w/ someone who lost his opening game, nice guy, too bad I
forgot his name :P. He started Bespin and Surface Defensed for all 3
effects. He set up an early drain at a cloud w/ a SE Obsidian ship,
eventually he backed it up w/ a Cloud Car and Obsidian Tie. I didn't get much in my first few turns, a Falcon but no Han, and Obi was hiding. He eventually deployed Lobot alone at the CC:Dining Room to capitalize on his clouds drain and I took my chance to do some damage. I deployed EPP Luke and EPP Leia and they Nabrun-ed over to Lobot and showed him the power of Skywalkers, he lost Lobot and 9 or so force. He got out another cloud and a PotF at a cloud, he spread out and I took advantage. BoShek and Chewie took the Falcon for a spin and did some damage in the clouds. Melas and Kal Fal setup a Tatooine Celebration w/ the Tantive 4 providing air support. Vader made a brief appearance on CC but the younger generation proved too strong. He re-appeared on Tatooine but was met by the crazy old man and some random alien friends. Win by 27. (4+49)
3rd game- LS vs. Rich Haman's ISB Ops
There are 5 undefeated after 2 games and Rich and I are the 2nd pairing. Rich is a local squadron member and a pretty good player. I get a good start w/ the Audience Chamber out and my Dag and Yoda's Hut. Great opening hand w/ Ben Kenobi, EPP Luke, and Gift of the Mentor. He gets 4 ISB Ops out like 3rd turn at my AC, I play gift to find Obi's stick (need some Circle protection) and save some force. he gets in 1 drain of 3 before I drop Ben and Luke and kill 3 of the Ops. DV, DLotS comes down and the ORS runs to safety w/ Vader. I dig for a Nabrun to try and catch up w/ them but to no avail they run and I follow and drain for 1 each turn. I get out R-3p0 to make him lose a force for the ORS, and manage to sense 2 Tramples. Artoo delivers A Gift to the AC and I decide to try to pull off TPTIFF on Tatooine so I send the Spiral to Dagobah to protect it. I had plans to drop Chewie in the Falcon w/ BoShek but Bossk in the Bus beat me to Tatooine (w/ some forfeit fodder in Evax). I got out Draw Their Fire and deployed the Falcon anyway to try to get rid of BitB, but to no avail. Next turn he drops EPP Fett and Jabba in Jabba's Cruiser (along w/ some forfeit fodder) and battles w/ his 3 destinies. I have to lose it all but have another Falcon in hand. I decide to give up the TPTIFF and try to hold Tatooine (he PotF it so it was a big drain site). I shuttled up EPP Leia and Han to the Spiral and Melas borrowed the Falcon for awhile. After canceling TPTIFF, his 2 ships were back at Tatooine. Meanwhile I was draining for 2 on the ground, and he got in a drain of 2 while my mains were busy trying to hold Tatooine. Luke shuttled up to the Spiral cause I had a Skywalkers but it got sensed when the Executor dropped on me. I lost the Falcon and Melas and Han. Leia and Luke shuttled back down to Tatooine and the Spiral went to hide on Dagobah. EPP Han tried to hold down 1 site w/ Tawss and Kal Fal, while Ben, Luke and Leia got caught in a Desert :(. He ABCTTU on Tatooine to kill all my drains. Meanwhile he drained for 3 at Tatooine, 2 w/ Vader.
The game was winding down, each of us had around 10-15 force, but I had no drain left and he had plenty. He tried to speed up his win by dropping an ORS and Evax in the Cantina and I saw my chance. I went digging for a Nabrun and was pleasantly surprised to find 2 Senses and an Alter as well (some other junk too). I saw his hand was low (2-3 cards) figured I'd win the sense-alter war over my Nabrun as long as he didn't get any more cards. I left some force to Nabrun on his turn. He deployed something and went to draw, I interrupted after his 1st card to Nabrun Ben Luke and Leia to the Cantina. He sensed, I altered it, he controled my sense, I sensed his sense. Nabrun went through and he could do nothing but draw some more cards (pulling all the S/A/C he needed to easily win that little war). My turn I activated a few, and hoped my last ditch effort payed off. Luke swung and hit Evax, Ben swung and hit the ORS, my destiny was 3, his was 2 (-2 for A Gift). I won by 11, and he had about 8 force left. Won by 11! (6+60).
That game was crazy, and I really had no business winning it but I'll take what I can get! Around then it started to hit me that it wasn now 8 PM and I hadn't eaten dinner yet :(. Ugh, no time for that now, gotta play my last game. There were 3 undefeateds left, all would play DS in the last round :(.
4th game - DS vs. Kerry's LS Mains & Toys
Kerry hasn't played much since SE came and gets a little flustered w/ my quick flip and the prospects of having very little drain and me getting big battle destiny bonuses. That and the fact that I keep used
Monnok-ing slows him down a lot. I flip 3rd turn and have DV, DLots
sitting at Obi's Hut 5th turn or so. Vader eventually gets his Sabre and some forfeit fodder. GL in G1 w/ Comm. Wedge go to drain at Kessel but are soon met by the Executor and a DS pilot. Ben, Chewie and Lando go to fight Vader and Ben steals Vader's Sabre and runs away w/ it :(. Vader is content w/ his drain of 3 at the Hut for awhile but eventually gets back-up in the form of Tarkin and some Blizzard Walkers who chase Ben and friends aroung Tatooine. There's not much he can do, he informs me he will be drawing up and that I should get rid of any cards in hand that I can, I promptly drop all the used interrupts I can and he draws up. Win by 27. All 3 undefeateds won there last game. John Lolli suffered from the opening round bye and so his differential wasn't too high (it was his own fault for showing up late though!). Wojtek got 2nd, and I edged him out for 1st place. Got a Jabba's shirt and 4 packs w/ nothing of interest.
1 younger player was making his first appearance (he showed up w/ his little brother, mom and dad, it was a whole family affair). He walked away w/ over half a box of WB Commons and Uncommons (and a bunch of rares and assorted other cards). I think will be seeing them again real soon! Vik and I left and hit the McDonalds on the way out and he talked me into 1 last game before I made the trip home. He played my LS deck, and I played my DS deck! The force was not w/ him, the DS deck won easily. Hope you liked my report!
