Beakman's Tournament Report

Tourney Report: Jan 17
Location: Mega Comics and Games, Gainesville

After my last tournament I realized how unstable Raltiir Operations decks can be. While it seemedlike a great deck at first, it was just too easy to keep the objective from flipping or flipping it over once it was turned. So I figured for this tournament I wold try an ISB deck. I borrowed some Outer Rim Scouts so I has 8 in the deck. Added a bunch of tramples and went to town. I wanted a sense/alter package, but had no room for it. I would later regret it too. As for the Light Side, I have been playing a Hidden Base ground deck. It is pretty strong so I decided to go with it.

Game 1 - Hidden Base vs Hunt Down and Destroy The Jedi
This game turned out to be a good one. He deployed several locations near the beginning of the game, including Kessel and Kiffex. He deployed POTF to the Defensive perimeter along with Vader, Tarkin, and Fett, while Visage was taking its toll on me. I had Ben Kenobi draining at his Jundland Wastes.

I used revolution to get Leia down to cancel Visage. I should have deployed some backup, but just didn't have the cards. He battled a turn or two later with Bane and they both went away. Meanwhile, there were a few skirmishes in space with the spiral and his Tie scouts (He cancelled HB early as well). I deployed the Bacta Tank and Luke to keep him from draining. I revolutioned the Hut and started looking for Nabrun. I got down Oola, but no nabrun. I kept drawing them as destiny, which wasn't making me happy at all.

Finally, I made the mistake that cost me the game. He drew Vader into his hand and I didn't Oola him. Instead, I nabruned Ben, Oola, and Melas to the Defensive perimeter and deployed EPP Han, used clash of sabers to remove Fett and battled Tarkin. I should have swung my saber, but I only had two force. Oh well. He lost a bit and Tarkin went away.

Next turn he deployed Vader and dueled. He drew a 6, 5, and 1 or 2. I drew a 2 and a 1. I was toast. I lost 9 force. A few turns later he spread and I lost by three. One more turn and I'd a had him.

In retrospect, I should battled with Fett and then lost Obi in that battle. Oh well live and learn. (0 -3)

Game 2 - ISB OP vs Space
I was playing a younger kid named Buck. He had a pretty solid deck except he hadn't included Hidden Base to make it quicker. It could have been much different had that been the case.
The game was pretty much a drain race. With my agents at some of his system locations, he couldn't drain. I never had a chance to deploy the Executor, which I drew in my opening hand, but I ended up winning by 17 or so. I felt that the ISB Ops deck was real strong. (2 +14)

Game 3 - ISB OPS vs Light Side Hidden Base non-battle forcedenial.
This game was against one of the better players in G-Ville, Matt Clarke. I've neaten him 2 or 3 times, so I was hoping I could do it again. But this game would be a true test of the ISB Ops. From the Beginning, I had a bad feeling.

He flipped HB on second turn. Alderaan, Tatooine and Kessel. I knew Alderaan was his HB, and I was sorry I started with A Coruscant site instead of the system. I deployed Vader to the Downtown Plaza Corridor and some ISB agents to the Hoth Docking Bay. I flipped the Objective and it was his turn. He deploys ObiWan at the Docking Bay (my only Hoth location down so far), and puts Uncontrollable Fury on Vader, then battles. He plays smoke screen and I lose everyone but Ozzel. Next turn he puts down Yoda's Gimer Stick and Order to engage. Oh Boy. I was losing 5 force without doing anything.

The game went pretty fast after that. The pay one to draw one seemed to leave all my locations in my deck. I had terrible luck. What sickened me was he started using Our Most Desperate Hour and retrieving force. Man, that really hurt. I needed Helrot and Alters in the deck big time!

I end up losing Big. It was in the 20s or 30s, I don't remember. Unfortunately, the game was also no fun to play because there was no real interaction. (2 -?)

Game 4 Hidden Base Ground vs Bespin Cloud deck
He started with the Imperial Occupation Objective using Bespin and the Dining room, except I told him that he had to use a diamond location and not a unique one. This was really going to hurt. I felt bad for him. Several turns later he was still drawing for cloud sectors when I got a monnok into hand. I proceeded to Monnok away his entire hand. I was also draining with Lando on the Tantive at Bespin, so my Charcters were deploy minus 1.

He did manage to get a cloud drain going with 3 Gas Boys and Chyler down as well as cancel hidden Base by deploying a cloud and Tie to my HB.

I revolutioned the dining room and deployed EPP Leia, EPP Han, Melas, and next turn Chewie. Once Chewie was down, I battled. He played Stunning Leader and drew a 6. Fortuntely, Chewie could soak up everything between his power and forfeit.

Luke Came down with Anakin's and I battled again. This time he didn't have anything in hand, so I cleared the entire location. It was pretty nasty. The game ended, and I actually made it back into the positive. (4 +5)

My first opponent went on to win his first tourney. Congrats Gerald on the win! I didn't get a whole lot from my packs. No Outer Rim Scouts were pulled but someone got a DLOTS in his pack. We headed over to GAWDs for dinner (thanks again Joey!) and then headed back to O-town.
