Tournament Report - 2/6/99 - Cedar Grove, NJ - Time Warp Comics
A big turn-out, the most ever at this store, 25 players arrived to play including most of the top local players. It was sure to be an exciting tournament.
Decks:
DS- Ralltiir Ops, lots of ability 2 pilots, Walkers, an ample supply of air support, 2 Vaders.
LS- MWYHL/ Mains & Toys, get Yoda at his Hut 1st turn and then go battle w/ EPP Mains, Nabruns, Draw Their Fire.
1st Game - LS vs. Alex Meseguer's ISB Ops/ CC Occupation
He gets out a few CC sites and we both draw. He drops 4 ISB agents and I respond w/ EPP Luke and Tawss Khaa. Luke swings and misses, but his destiny is only a 2 so I don't have to lose anything. He decides to run. I get EPP Leia out as well and I chase around his guys for a
while. I manage to get out Harc Seff so I can stop chasing him and just cancel his drains at adjacent sites. Vader comes down w/ some other power and he starts chasing me around CC (Harc Seff saving me from large drains. I get out Ben Kenobi on Tatooine and Nabrun him over to CC, deploy Chewbacca and move my guys over to face Vader and company on CC. He activates like 14 force of so and Snipers w/ Dr. E's Gun on Vader, he fires a # of times, killing Chewbacca and Harc Seff (Harc went to the Bacta Tank :). He couldn't manage to take out anyone else thankfully.
Next turn I initiate battle. Clash of Sabers on Vader, Luke hits someone, Leia hits someone, I Gift of the Mentor for 3 destinies and he loses everything ('cept Vader) and some more force. He gets out Boba Fett (he's got out Quick Reflexes so I'm scared of Hidden Weapons) and I run to cancel his drain from an adjacent site. He spreads out to 2 sites to get in some draining, Vader and Fett at one, a lot of ISBs at the other. I Grimtaaash to see his hand (no Oota Goot Solo, he started w/ All Wrapped Up) and Nabrun everyone to the site w/out Vader and Fett. Again Luke and Leia hit, and I Gift of the Mentor, everyone's lost and he loses some extra. Melas on the Spiral goes to Bespin to drain for a little, and R-3p0 comes out to do some damage w/ all his spies. He's got no drain thanx to Harc Seff and I just run from Fett and his Hidden Weapons. Win by 26 thanx to Harc Seff. 2 +26
2nd game - DS vs. Andrew Schumaker's Hoth/Clouds deck
We get to talking and I find out it's his 1st tournament, he's really more interested in looking at the cards I play that he doesn't have than actually playing the game, but anyway... He gets out Hoth and some clouds by the 4th turn or so, by then I've flipped my objective. He gets someone out to the Def. Perimeter to drain. I send Veers and Cabbel on Blizzard 1 to take care of the drain. He gets out a Miner and some cloud cars at his clouds to drain and Tarkin on Vader's Shuttle kills 1, but is smashed next turn. I set up Decree w/ the Avenger at Hoth and Blizzard 1 on the ground so his drains are nothing. We have some skirmishes on the ground but I'm draining and he's not so it's really inevitable that I win. Vader comes down to have some fun on the ground and chokes Chewbacca. Win by 27. 4 +53
3rd game - LS vs. Luis Rodriguez's ISB Ops
I've seen his deck before (we timed out last tournament w/ him using this deck) but my Mains & Toys is more prepared for it this time. He gets out a bunch of 1/1 sites and eventually drops 4 ISB Ops at 1 of them. I respond w/ EPP Luke and Leia and I kill 2 of the Ops and they have nowhere to run. He Elis's them to my Tatoooine sites but I Quite a Mercenary them and his Objective flips back. I get out Savrip, and BoShek goes to drain in the Cantina, Ben at the Jundland Wastes, and Artoo goes to present A Gift in the AC. He drops EPP Vader and 4 ISB agents on BoShek and I forfeit Obi and a Spiral from hand and lose
BoShek. He leaves 2 force, which I Frozen Assets and Nabrun over Ben
from Tatooine and Luke and Leia from Hoth. Vader gets Clash of Sabered
and I Gift of the Mentor. He loses everyone and some more force. Leia
goes to drain at the Wastes w/ Bron Burs and she eventually kills Vader
w/ Bron going to the Tank. He then deploys 3 ISBs at 3 different sites
to get in some drains. I drop Chewie at 1 site and Harc Seff at another to battle and get some force back (Draw Their Fire). I Nabrun Ben and Luke over to smash an ISB but he Ghhhks. Melas and EPP Han go to stop the drains @ 1 site and the game is pretty much over. Win by 22. 6 +75
4th game - DS vs. Mark Littlewood's Alderaan Ops There are 4 undefeateds, we are the 2nd pairing, I need a pretty big win and some help to win the tournament. He gets out Mon Mothma on Alderaan and some Troopers and Ops to drain. I flip my objective and go and set up Imp. Decree on Hoth (Def. Perimeter and Wampa Cave) to shut down his drains to nothing. He flips his objective to cut my drains by a lot too. He invades Hoth w/ troopers and operatives but they are no match for my imperials even w/ Rebel Ambush. I eventually setup Decree w/ the Executor @ Alderaan and Vader's Shuttle at Raltiir. I'm draining for 1 @ Alderaan, 1 @ my PotF'ed Raltiir site and 2 @ the Def. Perimeter thanx to Vader w/ his Saber. He's canceling my drains w/ Bargaining Table and Entrenchment but he eventually runs out of characters to put on them. He Windchimes for some force but w/ no drain going it's really inevitable. I win by 20. 8 + 95
The final game of the day between the top pair goes on for a long time after all the others are done. Jason Lembo's ISB Ops are facing off against Chris Gogolen's Harvesting Mains. There's a big crowd around but I don't watch cause I know how annoying big crowds around your game can get. Jason pulls out the win by 15 and wins the tourney w/ a differential of something like 120 or so. The shirt was Jabba which I already had anyway so I was more than happy to take the 4-0 2nd place finish. Jason gets his 1st tournament win and had to beat many of the top local players to do it, a well earned victory for him. I got 4 packs or so and pulled a WB Devastator which I needed. As usual Rich Haman runs another good tournament w/ an ever growing group of players.
