DS:ISB Operations/Manipulator
The day was very much like any other day that a tournament here in Gainesville for me (i.e. waking up, getting some grub, and showing up on time). I was expecting this tourney to be a VERY competitive with Beaks and QJ showing up to their old stomping grounds for some SWCCG schooling. Shortly after getting to Mega I learned that Beaks and QJ were not going to make it from GWAD our T.D. and it also looked like we were going to be missing a couple of our regular tourney players. As bad as it looked, we still had enough for a pretty good showing. Our T.D. decided to wait for a few min. for late arrivals and sure enough there were about three of them. Shortly after we got started.
1st Round My dark side vs. ????? Light side
I got paired off with one of the younger kids, I think his name is Omid, for the first round. I've played Omid before and he hasn't gotten the full grasp of the game but instead gets enjoyment from playing his cards and battling often leaving lone charaters with out ability high enough to draw destiny. For the most part, I could have won the game with very little in my lost pile and very few cards deployed, but I didn't. What good would it do me or the tourney enviroment to crush this kid who is just trying to have some fun, the answer is none. The game turned out pretty enjoyable with a lot of battles. I would descibe some of them but this could just take me an hour to look up all the names of SE's uncommon reble pilots that were deployed.
Full win (+25)
2nd round My LS vs. DS numbers/ counter assualt/limited
resources/defensive fire/fear/ect....
From the very get go, I knew something was up when my opponet deployed the meditation chamber as his starting location and nothing else. Normally I would have played Goo Nee Tay or TPTIFF as my starting effect but with his start something told me to play Ultimatum instead. His first turn he deployed three droids w/destiny 4 and inserted 3720 to 1. I in turn deploy yoda's hut and played the signal finding my Scrambled Transmission and deployed it because of his first turn Screw. I also had WYTTPOU in had but I wanted him to keep playing Scews. His next turn he drew cards.
On my next turn the insert came up. Thanks to my gut feeling I only lost two cards. I deployed the training grounds, yoda, CC:Lower Corridor, cantina, and got the first jedi test and I also got shocking information via STrans. during my controll phase. After drawing my opponet Screwed and I played SI he lost 4 force and that was the last time I saw a Scew come my way. After my opponet drew once again without doing much I figured that he didn't have charaters with ability so I spread out and started draining. During this time I WYTTPOUed his counter Assaults which wittled at me and due to over confidence on my part, I lost quite a bit to a well placed limited resources on two seperate occasions . While I was trying to find my off the edges to get back some force and to set up my destiny eights, I didn't realize how low in force my opponet was. His next turn he drew up while I had a lot of cards in hand. Man did I ever play that game badly.
Full win 2(4) +8(+33)
* Note during the second turn a lot of heads turned when a player named john who was playing MWYHL Declared "He blew up Degaba!" Yep, it truely happened.
3rd Round DS vs. Botha ops./speeder mainia
In this match up my opponet was my friend Eric. We help each other with
deck designs and play test our decks before tourneys. I had the early
lead with ISB canceling his force drains but I couldn't find my sites.
After a while I got bored and sent in a mains attack force and ended up
battling for a good long while with neither of us gaining the advantage
but in the end I lost out and lost my hold on Botha. A well placed
double agent killed5d6 and Eric was finally force draing me for more
than two. The match went the distance and ended in a draw with Eric
having an eleven differental to my one.
Time Out 1(5) -11(+22)
4rd Round LS vs. Tie madness with mains.
My Opponet(Matt) got off to a slow start and I didn't help by Altering a
lot of his effects. At one point he had more cards in his hand than his
reserve until he found his reactor terminal. I just wished I had a
grimtash. During his frantic drawing I had spread out to three sites
that I was draining for two each. One of which I only had Han w/pistol
draining. I did have Solo Han, and Warriors courage in hand so I wasn't
to worried. Thats when the beat down came with DLOTS,Tarkin,Ozzel, epp
Boba Fett,And DS614 combined with dark jedi presence. His total was 33
after destiny. Poor Han with three destinies of (6,4,2) because Tarkin
didn't want to die. My total 16+6forefit = 22 a loss of 11 and that
pretty much ended my run for second place.
Full Loss 0(5) -38(-16)
I came in 6th or 7th out of 13 or 15 people. Over all I had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoyed this report from good old G'ville.
