Game 1: DS vs. Jamaul's Anti-JP deck
Well, this guy had been talking about his deck before hand, so I knew
what to expect. I knew it would be tough to beat the mains and monks
because I didn't intend to go to any sites except the Jungle. Well, I
get decree up and running, so his Light Sabers are useless, and it's a
drain race from there.
Full win: 2(+5)
Hightlight:I get into his Throne room and drain for two for a
long while.
Lowlight:Playing one of the better players and only winning by
5.
Game 2: Light vs. Daniel(Dan da Man, if you will)'s DDeal Deck
Well, I was surprised by two things in this deck: Dark Deal and SAC.
First, I didn't think anybody would find room for SAC, I just tossed it
and started with DODN. Dark Deal was nice to see, it being my favorite
strategy. Basically, he just didn't get it going, I don't know why. I
did crash the party with BoShek and Luke coming to CC. Darth did
eventually kill them, but that was not until after my drains had taken
too much out of him.
Full win: 4(+7)
Hightligts:Playing dark deal, and getting to battle
Lowlight:Another really low win.
I'm now in second place, the first guy has about 35 differential points, so I know I have to win the next two games to win the tourney.
Game 3: Dark vs. -can't remember- Asterriod Sanc.
Well, as soon as I saw kessel as the SL, I was afraid, I was not too
sure how this deck would go against a good light speed deck. I, very
reluctantly, take Imperial Decree as my SE, convincing myself there's no
way he's playing SAC. Well, it turns out, he's playing AS, and I think
the lord I got Decree for those nasty Big One drains. Well he's playing
X-wings, and not much really happens, a few battles where one person is
greatly out matched, but that's about it. The difference was that I had
Ghhk when he deployed tons of X-wings to kill my TIE. But he leaves his
Y-wing out in the open and it gets pounded by a Star Destroyer. Anyway,
I get out Kiffex and a PotF at Yavin, and that's pretty much the game,
me drain for 5 (1 at his kessel) and him for 1 or 2. The best part,
though was when I surprised his AS to the inner sector and moved a TIE
there to cancel it, it wasn't until afterwards that I remembered it had
to go to a sector he controlled...his fault, right? Anyway, I barely
pull off a win, draining him exactly out with cards exactly equal to his
next drain. And it's all thanks to Limited Resources. He was winning
until I drew 1 limited resources, and with a smile on my face ask how
many cards are in his hand. 4 cards lost, now that's 1/10 of the deck,
pretty harsh, but I keep drawing and I get my second one, this and my
last drain is just enough to knock him off. Of course he had a Y-wing
vs Devastator at Yavin and no cards in hand.
Full win: 6(+10)
Highlight:Surprising AS
LowlightNot remembering the text.
Well, now I'm in first, but not by much, I'm the only undefeated person, but I'm playing the same guy again. He says his dark is unbeatable.
Game 4: Light vs same EV-9D9
Well, he starts with DW, and I tell myself "I knew I forgot something,"
I look frantically for a Ultamatium, but I didn't have one in my deck,
so I figure, maybe I'll get a good draw and be able to last this one
out...I get Luke and Obi fairly quickly, but my only site is the farm,
so I decide to go to JP, big mistake. He moves EV-9D9 to Farm (???),
and I drain for 3 at the workshop for about 5 turns looking for another
site, I get the cantina, but that turn, he puts down about 3 power
droids and Mosep to battle, I play GotM and only draw 10. Well it's my
18 to his 60 something, he wins. I just remembered that I could have
moved Mosep away if I had 1 more force!!! Argh, I'd have killed for a
blue milk right then...oh well
Full loss: 6(+0)
Hightlight:none, really...it was a pretty boring game.
Lowlight:Not having 1 more force to cancel the battle
Well, the EV-9D9 guy actually ended up getting second (I was third, of course), and Daniel got first. To think, if I had lost by 13 instead of 10, Ev-9D9 guy would have won. If I had forgotten to force drain for one turn, it's fun to think how one move could have changed everything...Anyway, the 2nd place guy got a falcon in his packs, so I don't think he was sore about not getting the shirt (It was C-3PO, afterall).
Wait, it's not over yet. It was only 2:00 right then, and we weren't going to end 'til 4:00, so everybody just hung around and traded, talked, etc. I got several cards I needed, then talked with the TD. We all gave up our uncommons and commons to a guy who was watching the tournament and wanted to learn how to play. The TD built two decks out of those cards and they played a game that was pretty interresting, guys everywhere from CZ-3 on Yavin to Praji at Junland Wastes. I just wish 'real' Star Wars CCG was this much fun, they were battling everywhere. The TD said that next time we would play 3 rounds, and he'd be running them every 2 weeks. That's great, that way a lot of new people will be playing, and there'll be more time for me to find the perfect 40 card deck.
Special Thanks to Gady Amor (the TD) for a great tourney.
