These interviews are meant to take an interesting look at those in
the SW:CCG community that we know a little about. Hopefully these will
reveal some new things about the people we talk to on the internet.
How did you get started playing SW:CCG?
Well, first I played Magic: the Gathering for 3 years (started at the start
of "The Dark") and I learned that Decipher, which at that time was only
producing STCCG just got the rights to do the same with Star Wars! As a
pretty good fan of StarWars, I didn't miss the opportunity to get involved
in the game. By the way, the first starter I opened contained Utinni and
Thank The Maker... :(
How did you get the nickname Xelf?
That's an old one... I got that while playing Final Fantasy 1 (Yes, the one
on Nintendo, the old one) As you FF fans know, in the first game the
characters needed 4 letter names... I just didn't know what to type so I
turned away from the screen and press randomly the 2 buttons (after making
sure the letters would not get out as "ABAA", I looked...) And there it was
"XELF" though it was good and sticked with it...
What is your favorite Strategy?
Strategy? I used to play defensive until I had all the mains in my hand and
"vomit" them all at the same time on the table against a poor Tagge... But
it doesn't work that way anymore... so I play simple, but effective.
What is your favorite scene from the trilogy?
That a thougher question than I thought.... I think it's the ever lasting
"Battle of Hoth" scene, that's a classic (No need to tell you how I love
the first level of "Shadows Of The Empire" on Nintendo 64).
If you could play the "Circle is Now Complete" on someone, who would it be?
Bad thing that card is Unique... Right now, it would be on Clinton...
sounds strange but I'm so tired of listening to that crap about him and that
girl...
How do you say "Inserts suck" in French?
To be honest it sound really good in english... in french it's more like:
Les "inserts" Ca suce!
Under what circumstances did you get your first Darth Vader?
I bought it 40$ (canadian) in a store from a kid who opened 2 packs and
got Vader and his TIE... the kid didn't know the value but knew the card...
What is your best SWCCG moment?
When I finished 4th at my 1st qualifier in 1996 (I still have the superd
trophy on which it's written 4th place!!!) great moment... we were 55
people, great tourney!
How tall are you?
5'10" but I only weight 130 lbs... I'm kinda thin...
Where were you born?
Here in Montreal, which is a great city, not too much people (3 million)
you can speak French and English, great place
Where do you go to school?
Actually I finished school... I don't know how to say this in english, but
I made, I guess it's a degree in Biochemestry in the UQAM universite UQAM
stands for "Universite du Quebec A Montreal"
Where do you play SW:CCG?
Everywhere I can, but mostly at The Goblin Toxic... Sherman (The owner)
sponsers me and my brother in tourneys (we get a boxe of each expansions
for free if we stay in the top 20 players in quebec) I'm currently 11th and
my brother is 16th...
How do you think Decipher will handle manipulation and Ast. Sanctuary?
I really can't answer that question, because Decipher really is expanding too much for the moment, really hard to predict...
Favorite non-rare card?
I would have to say Monnok and Grimtaash, and I think the reason is obvious...
How would you describe your playing style?
NOT SPACE! always ground. Always be sure of your defense before making a big move, so if you get screwed, you will still be in the game
What are your predictions on Special Edition?
Dewbacks, Rontos, speeder bikes, more guys that we don't know about... I
hope they correct that manipulation thing and, well the fact that the
starters will be Light and Dark and not both is a good thing for new
players, I think...
How do you say "I have a bad feeling about this" in French?
J'ai un mauvais pre-sentiment a propos de cela... It kinda suck...
Who is your toughest opponent? Why?
Yannick Lapointe... That guy beat me every single time he was in front of
me... It's like a curse... As you all know Yannick went to last year's
World Championship and finished 11th... He's a good player, but I really
don't know if I'm gonna be able to beat him... (My brother beat him
once...) I'm telling ya, he's good!
What do you think the new card type will do?
Don't know the card type yet... so I dunno...
What character do you most identify yourself with? Why?
Han Solo... I think the same thing as him on religions... but I know the Force exist! :)
Who do you think is uglier? Freddie Kruger or the Emperor?
The Emperor... but it's good that way, freddy is a funny guy, always making
jokes while killing people... The Emperor doesn't joke very much... so it
suites it's personality.
If you could change one thing about SWCCG game play, what would it be?
I HATE SPACE!!!! it's dull... I would restrict the use of spaceships... no
seriously space sucks... sorry...
Who do you think would win in a lightsaber duel: Hillary Clinton or Monica Lewinsky?
The one with the sword...... :)
