Blaster Proficiency (and the Quad Laser Cannon)

I would first like to say that I had been planning to write this article all week. Blaster Proficiency has always been one of those unsung cards that I think is a great card just waiting to happen. And I must admit that I am excited by news that could make this card one of the most powerful in the game.

With the creation of the EPP Mains that have blasters and mains constructed into one efficient card, I knew this card would probably see more action in decks. What a great time to write this article! How ironic that the following question was raised by someone on the Decipher Discussion BBS:

"Quad Laser Cannon has the word "blaster" in its lore. Is it considered a blaster? I want to know if I can use Blaster Proficiency to enhance the weapon.

The response shocked me. It came from Allen Divers, as follows:

"Yep, a Quad Laser Cannon is considered a blaster because of the characteristic definition in the CRD."

Holy Moley! This card just got a HUGE boost. Now those Quad "blaster" cannons could blow away a star Destroyer. Imagine this: Cap'n Solo, Wedge or Jek, and Wes Janson plus a Quad Cannon on the Falcon. And we haven't even started talking about targetting computers and combined attacks yet!

Blaster Proficiecy is only a destiny two, but who cares. It adds 3 to a "blaster" draw and is Used. That's talking my language!

The EPP mains will give this card a boost. Now you need two cards instead of 4 to get a character and a blaster going. Use those two other slots for a card such as blaster proficiency. Besides, we all knew Leia was a "crack shot" anyway! (another card that will probably see more play now).

Who knows! Maybe Blaster Proficiency will be making a stop on my list of the top 10 best SW:CCG cards!
