At first, I didn't think that the new persona was anything special. Destiny 1 or 6 was pretty nice. His ability to pull out A Gift and Hero of a 1,000 Devices was ok. He was still a Spy, but he lost his ability to add to starship. I never thought I would play with this card.
Then the JP/EXE combo came. The power of Galid was revealed, and the rest is history. Still ARTOO didn't seem too special. Then I saw the power of A Gift. It was at the Dagobah Regionals when someone gave me K3PO as A Gift. I had to scurry to win that game. Suddenly, ARTOO looked like something special.
This little fiesty drop could put a hurting on a JP deck. Deploy him and then send your droids running to the Audience Chamber. Forget Galid. The Light Side can continue its drain elsewhere, or regroup to battle.
But there are some combos that this little droid can really make nasty. One of the best late game cards is We're Doomed. Artoo can really make the Dark Side's Force drains come to a halt with this card. Throw in C3PO and suddenly the day brightens up in battles too. Sick of Vader adding one to destiny draws. Put Artoo and C3PO in a battle and counteract that by subtracting one from the destiny. Or use C3PO as the droid for A Gift.
And I have yet to mention Hero of a Thousand Devices. This card is one of the most underexplored cards left. Once someone finds how to really use this card effectively, watch out!
