This past saturday was the Kashyyk regional in Boxboro Mass. We had I nelieve 83 people total(A record for the area), and our TD Scott White did a great job keeping things in order. The competition was pretty fierce, with a very wide variety of decks being played. I decided to add to the variety, and play Jawas. Not just Light Side Jawas, but DS Jawas. yes.. ALL Jawas. To clarify that was two(2) jawa decks, at a regional. On to the games
Game 1(LS) vs Someone playing a DS deck(No names sorry :)
Game one opened up rather bleakly for me. I had an atrocious first hand,
and my opponent took advantage of this. He got drains set up over the
board..but made the horrendous mistake of deploying a character to
Tatooine(Certain death vs. Jawas). I kept the bargaining table full of the
little guys, and eventually saw the opportunity to strike, dropping Kalit at
the Jawa Camp, some Jawa Siestas(All P:3 F:9 jawas), and proceeded to drop
quite a few jawas and beat up on his characters for a force loss around 25.
From there I beat up on more of his characters and won by 22.
2(+22)
Game 2(DS) vs. Some LS player(pattern forming)
This was my DS Jawas against a light side hoth clouds deck. Basically
what happened is he dropped lots of mains on Hoth(Under the shield) and cloud
cars and the falcon above. Lots of draining, but he made the mistake of
putting someone at the North Ridge(Unshielded) and draining, leading to a Cane
Adiss and many, many jawas. The Jawas proceeded to beat up on Wedge, then
Luke, then Han, leading to a win by 11
4(+33)
Game 3(LS) vs. ??????
More jawas vs...a DS Bounty hunter deck(Centered around Jabba's palace).
He deployed to Tatooine, game over. Jawas come down, go to cantina, and I
play 'Blast the Door Kid!', excluding everyone but one poor character(forget
who it was). I win by 21
6(+54)
Game 4(DS) vs. ? ? ? ?
In this game I played against an intriguing Cloud city draining deck.
Basically he deployed the unique miner(+1 to all related CC drains) and cloud
cars, and started draining me alot. I had jawas, and moved them over using
Elis. They beat up on his people and he lost :) I only won by 6 because he
drew up before I drew an abyssin ornament.
8(+60)
Game 5(LS) vs. ??
This game was against another formiddable Jabba's palace deck. My
opponent got a drain of 7 going fairly quickly, and I was placed on the
defensive stacking jawas onto the bargaining table. My opponent however made
the mistake of leaving Dr. Evazan alone at the rancor pit with a presence of
the force. Jawas came upon him and I won the game in one fell swoop(37 battle
damage) Win by 9.
10(+69)
At this point I was in 3rd place entering the final round before the playoffs, there were 3 undefeated players left at that point.
Game 6(DS) vs. Hayes Hunter
Ick. This was the game I did *not* want to play, because both of us knew
each other's decks. He was playing a very good Sanctuary deck, creating a
silly mismatch game. Basically it was a drain war, about 7 apiece each turn.
The turning point was when he drew a grimtaash and killed both my abyssin
ornaments, both monnoks, and 4 jawas. I wound up losing by 8.
So I finished at 10(+61), 7th place(Prety damn respectable for jawas!!) And so the finals began:
Finals Game 1
Hayes(DS) vs Other guy(LS) (Sorry can't even remember that guy's name :)
Ok. Hayes was playing a TIE Scout deck, which just spread out and
drained, and Ghhk'd if a battle occured, while the LS guy was playing basic
mains and toys. Another sheer drain war, with the inclusion of the falcon
running around in space, but even that couldn't save him. Hayes won by 3,
basically meaning that the second game decided the match
Finals Game 2
Hayes(LS) vs. Other guy(DS)
Hayes still had the sanc deck, while his opponent was playing a
Skrilling/Numbers deck. This was a *very* nasty deck, one that I saw dump an
insert on someone first turn for 11 damage(ouch!). Hayes got out a sanc
quickly, but the skrillings were blocking the drains on a Den of Thieves.
However, the inserts' effectiveness were cut by Hayes' high destiny pilots.
This one was another speed game, and Hayes pulled it out by 1. **1**.
And the crushing blow was that the DS player's last card in the reserve deck
was a Abyssin ornament that would've won him the game, and most likely the
tournament. 'DOH!'
