Welcome to my hometown Delafield, Wisconsin
My hometown, since 1971, is in Wisconsin
.
The State of Wisconsin has been a wonderful place to live and raise children.
1998 was the year we celebrated our Sesquicentennial Celebration

When we moved here from Detroit, we had to learn some new lingo. For example, we used to say "water fountain",
now we say "Bubbler". We used to call that soft sparkling beverage "pop",
now we call it "soda". We used to say that the streetcar "turns" around the corner, now we say the streetcar "bends" around the corner.
But, contrary to public opinion, we do NOT say "ya der".

Our city, Delafield is in southeastern
Wisconsin, in Waukesha County,
about half way between Milwaukee
and Madison.
Hawk's Inn is an historic site in Delafield. It was a midway stop for travelers between Milwaukee and
Madison in the 1800's.
Delafield is part of the Lake Country of
southeastern Wisconsin.

Click on the sign to see a larger readable one and find out who "Lapham" was.
Waukesha county is in the heart of the
Kettle Moraine, a glacial area.
The Ice Age Trail offers biking, hiking, cross country skiing, etc.
Also in the Kettle Moraine, Lapham Peak State Park
offers 14.6 miles of walking, biking and horse trails, 2.3 miles of cross country
skiing, a picnic area and a lookout tower on top of Lapham Peak. At 1,233 feet, it is the highest
point in Waukesha County.
Our house is on the ridge of Lapham Peak, and often we hike up to the tower. We also enjoy the candelight
cross country skiing.

You may have heard of Delafield, even if you didn't know it at the time.
If you saw the movie Apollo 13, you may recall the part about Lovell's son who was attending
St. John's Military Academy.
If you've ever bought a Lang Calendar or
stationery or cards by Main Street Press, look on the back and you will see "Delafield, Wisconsin".
If you are a Civil War buff, you will recall the bravery of the Cushing brothers, who came from Delafield.
We have a school, a park and a road named after them. The park has a fine memorial to them.

When family and friends visit we take them to the Mitchell Park Domes,
The House on the Rock
one of the famous Milwaukee Events such as
Summerfest.
Of course, if they are golfers we take them to
Nagawaukee Golf Course one of our favorites.
When the grandchildren visit we go to the Milwaukee Zoo, the IMAX, the Betty Brinn Children's Museum.

Most Americans consider Milwaukee the city of suds. However, there's more
to the Cream City (so-called for the color of its clay bricks, not the hue of a
nice foamy head) than beer. The city is home to sports teams, botanical
gardens, a symphony, orchestra, art museum, ballet company, theater
district and many fine restaurants. And beer goes well with all of 'em!
With its community of immigrant German brewmeisters and access to
clean, cool water, the city has long been a natural for lager brewing. After
Chicago's 1871 fire temporarily ruined the water supply, Milwaukee's brewers
came through with enormous shipments of beer.
So many Beers, so little time.

Traditions:

You have heard of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers,
Bonnie Blair and Dan Jensen who won Olympic Gold Medals).
Our daughters attended a wonderful school in Delafield, University Lake School
Delafield has been the home of nationally renowned artists Doris Wokurka and Charles Dix.
There is a collection of wonderful boutiques to browse in.
Nearby you would see a buffalo farm.
