Happy Holidays
rule

bulletIt's two days after Christmas and we are in the midst of the Holiday Season.
The Christmas rush is over and the celebrations continue.

bulletThe music on the radio has changed.

bulletThe decorations are looking tattered and tired, like Blitzen.

Reindeer

bulletIt's time to take a deep breath, relax
and get the body and soul ready for the new year.

bulletThis is a time for relaxing and re-grouping.

rule

A few relaxation ideas might include:

bulletTake some time to meditate.

bulletWrite year end thoughts in a journal,
remembering all those things
for which we are grateful.

bulletListen to some soothing music.

bulletWatch softly falling snow,
or spend some time viewing a kaleidoscope.

bulletDo a jigsaw puzzle.

bulletBrowse through the WOW's wonderful web pages and 1997 calendar pages.

bulletRead some poetry. Maya Angelou is one of my favorites.

bulletLook through the year's photographs.

bulletPlay a game.

bulletTake your holiday leftovers to a needy family.

bulletWatch the Nutcracker Suite Ballet.

bulletTake a long hot bubble bath with candles and champagne (or sparkling fruit juice)

bulletPlay at the Phoenix Bar and Grill.

bulletCall a friend and chat about life in general, or nothing at all.

bulletSend a web card to someone, just to let them know you care.

bulletTalk to your poinsettias

In Mexico, the poinsettia is called flor de la Nochebuena—flower of the Holy Night.
At Christmastime, the flower blooms and flourishes,
the quite exquisite red stars lighting up the countryside.
A Mexican legend tells how the poinsettia came to be,
through a little girl's unselfish gift to the Christ Child.

I will want to do all of the above because December 27 is my birthday.
I always try to celebrate the remembrance of my birth with some quiet contemplation time.

Birthday Memories

I am so fortunate to have my special day during the holiday season.
As a child it didn't seem so great.
All the other children would have a party at school on their birthday.
On my birthday the family traipsed out to the stores to exchange Christmas gifts.
On the other hand, during the holiday season everyone is in a party mood.
All the homes are festively decorated.
How wonderful to share my special day during this time of joy on earth.

On one very memorable birthday
my mother sent my brother to the local market to get a birthday cake for me
since she had no time to bake.
When he got home he was so proud of his purchase.
He had been able to get the cake for half price!
That was because it was a day old Christmas cake!
I haven't let him live that one down in all these 50+ years.
(I know he'll see this too!)

My MOST memorable, wonderful and treasured Birthday Celebration was in 1996.
My 3 daughters made it so very special.
Last November I received a beautiful hand-crafted invitation
to a birthday party,
for me, at my house, on December 27, 1996.
What a wonderful surprise!
Since they were all going to be home for Christmas
for the first time in about 10 years
they decided to give a bash for my 60th birthday.
It was grand, everything about it was wonderful.
Especially my family.

When I am very lucky, it snows beautifully on the 27th.
I take time on my special day to sit in my favorite place
and contemplate all the multitudes of things for which
I am most grateful.

Here is my favorite photograph of my wonderful daughters,
the greatest gifts I have ever received:
