This is the second album of well-known singer-bandurist Taras Lazurkevych, a graduate of Lviv Higher Institute of Music (1994) and laureate of the first International Bandura Competition (1993), a participant of many music festivals in Canada, France, Belgium, Poland, etc. Together with the noted bandura constructor, professor V. Herasymenko, Taras began to revive the forgotten Kharkiv style of bandura playing and the repertoire for such instrument.

In 1989 at the first all-Ukrainian festival of popular music "Chervona Ruta" Taras debuted in another form - as the author and performer of his own songs. Some of these songs are recorded on this album, along with transcriptions of classical works for the bandura and other virtuoso instrumental works.

Mr. Lazurkevych successfully continues the responsibilities of a distinguished pedagogue and a concert bandurist. He also leads the Regional Association of Bandurists at the National Music Union and is the President of the Artistic-Charitable Foundation "Kobzar".

Саме таку реальнiсть презентує 2-й альбом вiдомого спiвака-бандуриста Тараса Лазуркевича, який є випускником Львiвського Вищого музичного iнституту (1994) i лауреатом Першого Мiжнародного конкурсу бандуристiв iмени Г. Хоткевича в Києвi (1993), а також учасником багатьох музичних фестивалiв у Канадi, Францiї, Бельгiї, Польщi, Словаччинi, Росiї. Саме вiн разом з професором В. Герасименком у 1990 роцi розпочав вiдродження забутого в Українi харкiвського способу гри на бандурi та репертуару для бандури такого типу.

А ще в 1989 роцi на I Всеукраїнському фестивалi популярної музики »Червона Рута» Тарас Лазуркевич дебютував iв iншому амплуа - як автор i виконавець власних пiсень. Деякi з них представленi в цьому альбомi поряд з перекладеннями для бандури класичної музики i ориґiнальних iнструментальних творiв.

Сьогоднi Тарас успiшно поєднує обов`язки педагога з концертно-пропагандистською дiяльнiстю, а також очолює обласну Асоцiацiю бандуристiв Нацiональної музичної спiлки i є Президентом мистецького благодiйного фонду »Кобзар».

The Kobzari - Homers of Ukraine. Through the unique sound of their banduras rang the call for freedom, the singing of praise of heroes, about the indestructible spirit of their ancestors. Blind - they were able to radiate the light of truth and freedom throught the darkness; chased, often captive - they were the prophets of liberty; insulted - they were always the conscience of the people, raising them from their knees, turning a slave into a hero.

Traditionally the kobzar-bandurists were solo performers. Occasionally they would unite for ensemble performances. The renown Lviv bandurists, laureates of All-Ukrainian and International competitions and festivals - Taras Lazurekevych and Oleh Sozansky, each a talented performing soloist in this own right, combined their talents in 1994 to form the duet "BANDURA SPEAKS". Studying under Professor Vasyl Herasymenko, these talented boys have mastered the two main styles of playing the bandura - the academic Kyiv style and the until recentlyu forgotten Kharkiv style pioneered by Hnat Khotkevych.

During these past few years Taras Lazurkevych and Oleh Sozansky have successfully performed throughout and outside of Ukraine, demonstrating the unique and magical sound of this ancient Ukrainian instrument. This unique artistic duet now proposes their first album of folk songs, examples from the kobzar repertoire and instrumental works that they have arranged, using a new refreshing approach.
