History
Ayroor was like a promised land. Sprawled on the banks of the Pamba river, in central Kerala, INDIA, it was an ancient and famous region. During the rule of the Ayroor Karthakkals in AD 1750, a young man named Thomas, full of Godly confidence and courage moved to Ayroor with his wife and only son and settled there, thereby laying the foundation of an extensive and blessed family named Puthuparambil.
There is no definite evidence of Thomas's origins. There are two school of thoughts about this. The foundation of christianity in Kerala was laid by Thomas Apostle in the first century AD. Many christian converts had to face a lot of persecution and there is evidence that many christians migrated from christian strongholds like Niranam and Kuravilangad to escape the persecution. One possibility is that Thomas could have been from one such migrant christian groups.
Among the seven and half churches Thomas Apostle established, one was in Nilakkal from where Pamba river originated. He converted many brahmin hindu families and established a church there. As time passed, Nilakkal, which was predominantly a hindu stronghold became deserted as many people migrated from that place. They traveled downstream the Pampa river and settled in more fertile lands like Ayroor and Kurianoor. Thomas's could have been one of such migrant families.
The success of Thomas and his descendants were their deep rooted faith in God and the hard work they put in. This led to rich harvests and packed stables. In the early days there were not many christians in Ayroor region but this family was exceptional as it enjoyed a tax free status from the King. They owned 1.84 acres of land and retained it till 1953. As the years passed and the family grew, more and more land was needed for farming and rearing the cattle. This led the fore fathers to venture out and settle in areas like Njoyur, Velliyara, Kottanad, Poovanmala, Nellicamon, Vazhakunnam, Kakkudimon, Madamon and Konni.
A. Philip of the 6th generation, who was also the first secretary of the family reunion is considered as the first government employee. By the next generation there was a tremendous growth in education and employment. Many migrated to Malaysia and settled there. By the 8th and 9th generation, there was a large number of doctors, engineers, attorneys, journalist and teachers. Many took up employment in the Gulf countries and even the USA
Today the family tree, evolving from PUTHUPARAMBIL Thomas, has branched into 7 main sections with four sub sections to the 7th branch, details of which is provided elsewhere on this site. Where ever they went the Puthuparambil family members became an integral part of the society contributing much to its social, economic, religious and cultural heritage. Their faith in God is visible in their efforts of starting churches in several places. The wealth of Ayroor Puthuparambil family was great confidence, hard work and above all the grace of God. They did not forget to pass the divine blessings to their next generation. Their love for the brethren spanning even oceans is such a remarkable character which is visible even today. The family reunion, its charitable activities and this humble web site is in line with that character. May God bless this family much more and make it productive and a blessing to the nations in the coming days.
