Arnold J. Trembley, Libertarian for Missouri State TreasurerI would like to sincerely thank everyone who voted for me for their support. I did not expect to win, but I had hoped to achieve a higher percentage total than 0.8%. I did finish third out of seven candidates, slightly ahead of the Green Party candidate. One supporter suggested that I ask for a recount, but I accept the results. DEM Nancy Farmer 1,186,238 51.5% REP Todd Graves 1,057,109 45.9% LIB Arnold J. I am running for Treasurer of Missouri to be part of the new Libertarian Team that will bring More Freedom, More Tolerance, and Less Government to Missouri. As a computer professional and a practicing programmer who works daily on complex financial systems, I will be able to understand the workings of the computer systems used by the Treasurers Office, and will not be at the mercy of staff members to explain them. I will strive to operate the office in the most professional manner possible, and I will constantly search for ways to reduce the cost of government in Missouri. I am NOT accepting contributions from Political Action Committees, or from banks or investment companies that could do business with the Missouri State Treasurer's Office. Vote Libertarian on November 7th!
The Primary Election was held Tue-08-Aug-2000, and the general election will be held Tue-07-Nov-2000. I will be posting special interest group survey responses on this page as soon as I receive them. I recommend the response to the Kansas City Star newspaper, since that survey is focused on state treasurer issues. The Missouri State Treasurer's office is being contested by Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Reform, Constitution, Green, and Natural Law party candidates. The following quotations are from the Missouri State Manual, 1999-2000: "The treasurer is Missouri's chief financial officer. The duties of the treasurer
as defined by the Missouri Constitution and statutes are to be the custodian of all state
funds and to invest those funds not needed for daily state operations.
"The treasurer serves a term of four years, and a person may only serve as treasurer for
two terms.
"The treasurer's office manages Missouri's $17 billion in annual state revenues. It
directs the state's banking and investment services. The office also safeguards and tries
to locate the rightful owners of unclaimed property that has been turned over to the state
by banks, businesses, insurance companies and government agencies.
"The office currently holds more than $130 million in unclaimed property in more than
930,000 accounts. All unclaimed property is held in trust by the state forever and can be
claimed at any time. To recover unclaimed property, claimants must be either the original
owner of the property or a legal heir. Citizens can check to see if they have unclaimed
property in Missouri by writing the treasurer's office or searching a data base on the office's
website."
