MISCELLANY - Unnumbered
|
||||||
| The backs of the cards in
this group appear in one of two styles, both
printed in black. Some show a detailed
engraving of the Arbuckle factory buildings and
docks, in a horizontal format, while others
contain only the standard "Four
Points" sales pitch (Type
'2'), in a vertical format, explaining the
virtues of Arbuckles' Ariosa Coffee. To the best of my knowledge, all cards in the series exist with both style backs, but I haven't seen them all yet. In addition, while most cards bear the lithographer's name "Geo S. Harris & Sons, Lith. Phila." in tiny type at the very bottom of the card, I have run across some cards which do not. On each of the pages showing the individual cards I've indicated which style backs I have, or at least know for certain to exist. (NOTE: In some cases, particularly the "Factory" back cards, misalignment of the printing may cause the text at the bottom to be "chopped off". I do not include such cards when identifying those with/without the lithographer's name.) |
