Many of you will remember my frantic plea in December, 1998 when I posted to SETTERS-Lasking for prayers for Kerry, my 9 year old irish setter bitch who was critically ill with a ruptured bladder - and not really expected to survive the surgery. Kerry is my husband's dog - he had trained her for obedience but never got around to getting that CD title. As I sat beside her that night, I promised her that if she got better, we would go for rides in the car, and together, we would work for that CD.
Well, Kerry did survive the surgery, and in June, she was entered in her first obedience trial, at the Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty in Jacksonville, Florida. Novice B obedience took place at the same time as judging for Veteran Sweeps, and it was very difficult to hear the judge's commands over the applause for the lovely veterans - but, she performed beautifully, and qualified for her first leg. In addition, she managed to win a placement. Kerry had a great time at the National - she got to ride in the car, she got to sleep on the bed (well, she usually does anyway), - and she brought tears to many eyes, when the judge said "exercise finished" after the long downs - and she had qualified for her first leg.
Thank you Kerry, for a wonderful memory. And thanks to the stewards in that ring, and the judge, and my friends, who shared the tears and the happiness that day. And a very special thank you to someone who heard all the prayers that long December night - and gave Kerry back to me.

Kerry is the head of the "Couch Potato Group". An excellent obedience dog, she earned her title in 4 shows (including her "it's too hot to sit in the sun, so I will go over here" caper in Lynchburg, Virginia. Kerry has retired to her well earned place on the sofa, in the den.
