Vice-President's Report
by Deb Slattery
Hello Everyone,
I'm writing this on the first day of snow, it’s not even Halloween yet and the leaves haven't all fallen. But everything changes, all the time. When I started my job with the Postal Service it was 1990 and I began as an LSM clerk. On the day I started they told my group of about 25 that these machines we spent a lot of time training for would be gone in 5 years. Well they were right! This place changes all the time it seems. Well I guess it’s really no different today the only problem is it seems like lately it’s changing faster than it used to. Just this year alone has had its challenges. I've gotten a lot of questions about the recent bid posting and why they would post the bids the way they did. It’s really simple, they wanted to post a lot of PTR bids because a lot of areas don't have 8 hours of work but we really didn't want PTR positions and didn't think that they would be appealing to our members considering the state of the economy who would bid them? It made a lot more sense to combine 2 areas that could be 8 hours of work and doing that they created a lot more positions and that prevented and excessing situation. Good Luck to everyone bidding. Now for the upcoming retirements there will be vacant bids to come and we will try our best to keep everyone of those bids, which is always our goal. We still have clerks that are unassigned and need bids and currently still have 2 clerks that need to be offered retreat rights to tour 2. Until there are 2 residual bids on tour 2 to offer them, bidding will still be restricted to tour 2 level 6 clerks. For all of you that are retiring, I hope that you are all going in good health, good financial status and can really enjoy the rest of the best years of your life, and you will be missed! The holidays are approaching and so is our annual Christmas party, we have a lot of fun and there are lots of raffle prizes to win. Hope to see you there! I hope that you all have a safe and happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Deborah Slattery
