THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE... (I HOPE...)
mother goosed me to sleep
with fairy tales that didn't keep
up with the times
but I still enjoyed the rhymes
even when meter failed
or the were promises broken
or ideals were sold for survival
in words unspoken
call your Jesus, Mohammed, or Zeus
whatever gives you your juice
but if your choice is war
you don't know what life's for
maybe you need to read Mother Goose
I learned from the goose
and more from the Seuss
the cat in the hat
Horton and the Whos
the Grinch and his dog
the Lorax and clues
they subtly grew
into something I always knew
and now I remember
why I do not regret
you know you've grown up
when you forget.
once you forget,
it doesn't matter anymore
I'm lucky,
I remember,
it still matters to me.
some men wear a tie like a noose
some wear their pants real loose
I go my own way
so what's left to say
I was born under the sign of Suess
