Hiya Angel Dancers! It's me Jess'ca. In Germany. I arrived in Frankfurt on the Fourth of July, and of course no one had fireworks, and I really missed that. I love fireworks. But I'm having a great time. I'm staying at youth hostels and just kinda wingin' it before I go to Berlin. No hurry... Hehe. On the sixth I picked up a rental car at the train station, a tiny blue Opel Corsa, and drove up to Kassel, where I hung out with the Brothers Grimm--they're just my favorite German guys :) I asked them about "The Juniper Tree" and Wilhelm said, "when we first found that story I immediately thought of Björk.... Of course she isn't born yet, so we'll have to wait awhile." The next day I drove to Paderborn--they have a beautiful Cathedral there. I guess I just missed seeing the pope. I had a few things to say to him too. So um, John Paul, couldja get 'em to play more cool Icelandic videos on MTV? Hehe. He does have lotsa influence, right? So this Cathedral in Paderborn has all these dead people in the walls and lotsa wee chapels and loads more dead people buried in the spooky crypt under the altar. It's wild and holy and echoey. I found lotsa angels too.

Then I went to this little town called Horn and stayed at the youth hostel there. The guy that runs the place was way cool and crazy. He kept calling me 'Yessica from ooh-ess-ah.' And he walked around singing silly German drinking songs all day. So I teased him a bit and asked if he knew of any cool raves around Horn. He said, 'For you Yessica! We make rave right here in the Jugendherberge!' Hehe. He was crazy for sure.

From the youth hostel there's a path to this wonderful place called Externsteine. These big chunks of limestone just come rising up out of the ground in a forest. And there's a perfectly still lake right next to the rocks. It's very spiritual. Pagans and Christians supposedly once fought over the place, but I think it's really the place where Pagans and Christians hang out together. There's lotsa weird symbols and graffiti carved into the rocks. And strange little caves and altars everywhere. I made some drawings of the limestone, then I went around the other side of the lake and just sat there for awhile, all calm. Then I met three of the wee spirit creatures who live at Externsteine. They were named Gog, Blix and Fallen. No one else could see them 'cept me and two little kids who came by.photograph of Externsteine near Horn, GermanyTheir parents didn't believe us. Silly adults! Hehe. Gog told me that people sneak into Externsteine at night and have wild raves! He said they bring boom boxes and get naked and dance all night with the Externsteine spirit creatures. Fallen even said his favorite song was "Big Time Sensuality." Blix was very shy. She didn't talk much. But she was very interested in my drawings, so I gave her one.

The next day I went to Detmold where I am now. It took forever to find the youth hostel, but it's so wonderful. It's tucked away above the town and buried in trees. There's goats and dogs and everything. I met this French boy, Jacques, who shares my love of old churches and castles and stuff like that. We're gonna go exploring together. And he's begging me to come to Paris. He even likes Björk. He's supercool.

Jessi hugs all the Angel Dancers. Is everyone behaving all properly? I sure hope not. Hehe.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

-Yessica (who is gloriously lost in Deutschland and misses her little dog)

PS-Didja know gargoyles can talk? And they say the silliest things too! "Perhaps I could have a little chat with the pope about getting more cool Icelandic videos on MTV for you, Jess...."
