Governors America Corporation (GAC) was established in 1986 located in a 45,000 sq. ft. facility.  Since its inception, GAC has dedicated its resources to becoming a leader in the engine control marketplace. They offer proven, high quality, fast response, electronic Engine Governor Systems.  GAC is vertically integrated with complete design, development, production, and marketing capabilities for a family of electromechanical and electronic devices utilized for precise engine control.

The innovative engine control products are being used in a variety of industries, which include generator set, material handling, marine propulsion, mining, locomotive, and off-highway applications.

GAC offers many fine install kits with brackets, harnesses, and other necessities to make your set up go easily.  If you advise us of which engine you plan to use, we can better assist you.

GAC has developed a broad, technically advanced line of Electronic Governing and Fuel Control Systems, complete with accessories. Complete installation kits suitable for a variety of engines are available. Engine control systems range in cost and complexity from single speed isochronous governors to sophisticated multi-engine load sharing / power control systems, full authority drive-by-wire systems, locomotive diesel electric controls, military nuclear hardened engine governors and a great variety of complementing governor system accessory components.

New governing system components are constantly being developed to compliment and expand GAC’s general engine controls capability. To maintain its leadership in the engine controls field, GAC has incorporated advanced technologies into its latest product developments. Full authority, 32 bit digital engine controls, as well as new feature-enhanced analog controls, are examples of some of GAC’s new electronic developments. GAC also designs and manufactures custom electro-magnetic integral actuators. These high performance linear and rotary actuators are designed to optimally control a specific engine’s fuel system. Some units include GAC’s own high accuracy position sensing system.

Governors America Corporation feels confident that their speed controls, and Electric Actuators will meet your immediate needs and allow you to offer your customers a superior finished product.

Distinction in The World Of Engine Controls

For engines that have mechanical governors that are variable speed type, the electric actuator linkage is attached to the fuel shut off lever. Control engine through shut off lever. Remove the spring from the shut off shaft. The throttle lever is locked to 10 % above the highest desired speed setting, (get it out of the way). For engines that have mechanical governors that are min-max type, the electric actuator linkage is attached to the throttle lever. The shut off lever is placed in full fuel.

Governors America Corporation’s Quality Assurance Group has established and implemented a quality system that complies with the directives of ISO9001. GAC's facility and quality procedures have been fully audited by an independent accredited firm and has received ISO9001:1994 certification (USA#8300). In addition, GAC is in compliance with all ISO and EMC standards and has received CE approval and Marine Agency classification of various products.

Governors America Corp. (GAC), is pleased to announce that the GNS Series of Digital Controllers. These products offer you the "Biggest Bang for Your Bucks".  Built on its range of engine controllers, Governors America Corp. has added a new family of genset controllers. The new GNS2000 series controllers are designed for stand-alone applications and feature additional flexibility by allowing users to customize the controller to the genset application.   Now the GNS can be used in switchgear, gensets, and other applications.

The GNS2000 series is available with or without a display, which is refer to as the “black box” version.  All of the display communications are done over four low-voltage cables, which allows for a safer and more secure system because the AC voltage wiring is kept away from the control panel.

GNS controllers are equipped with a powerful 128 x 64 back-lit graphic display with icons, symbols and bar graphs for intuitive operation, which sets, together with high functionality setting new standards in genset controls.  The controller can be locally or remotely configured using GAC’s SmartVU configuration software.  The software is provided at no additional charge and can automatically senses engine parameters via analog inputs, discrete inputs and/or the engine’s ECU via J1939 CANbus. The display offers four language options and has five security levels and a panel lock to prevent unauthorized tampering with the control system.

The GNS has three methods for sensing system voltage; auto detection, fixed voltage operation, or assigned binary inputs to indicate desired voltage.  A series of alarms and warnings are also integrated into the controller to notify the user and protect the engine and generator.  While parameters can be controlled individually, the controller is capable of shutdown during low oil pressure, low fuel level, high coolant temperature, under/over-speed, under/over-voltage, over-current, under/over frequency, sensor failure, over-crank, over-load (kW), short-circuit current, generator current unbalanced and generator voltage unbalanced.

GNS2000 units have 18 customer definable inputs and outputs and up to two built-in RS-232/485 ports with the capability for expansion.  It also allows for remote monitoring via several methods such as external or built-in moderns, cellular communication or Ethernet.

Operating temperature on the controller is -40°F to 185°F with an optional temperature range of -4°F to 185°F for less severe thermal applications.  With an IP65 rating, the GNS unit is also designed to be resistant to salt, fog, humidity, dust, dirt and chemical contaminants.

Need to know what those Engine Fault Codes are...

Governors America Corp. has introduced the JDR050 CANbus reader to allow users to read standard J1939 diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) in engines equipped with J1939 compatible engine control units (ECU). The reader displays active and stored DTC codes for up to 10 ECUs and is operational through two buttons. Because the JDR050 is a universal diagnostic code reader, its application is not limited to any particular engine manufacturer or engine size.  It is easily installed, which makes it ideal for after market prospects, and  it is extremely rugged so harsh applications are never an issue. This UNIVERSAL diagnostic code reader that will operate with any electronic engine that utilizes J1939 protocol.

It has a built in CANbus 120Ů termination resistor and requires no software for configuration. A three-line LCD display is designed to be large enough to access with heavy gloves on while construction incorporates a sealed polycarbonate case and non-fogging display. The unit is IP67 front resist and IP69K rear resist and has an operating voltage of 8 to 32 Vdc. Operating temperature is -40 to 185oF.

Dimensions for the JDR050 are 2.75 in. long by 2.75 in. wide by 2.127 in. deep, allowing for mounting within a 2 in. opening. The reader can be battery or ignition powered, GAC said, and is installed using two 6-pin Deutsch DT compatible connectors.
