Isom Dickerson died of Consumption on March 5, 1870. He was 27 years old.
He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth, a daughter, Minnerva, and a son, Isom James. There
was also a step-son named John Pyatt.
Isom's father, George F. Dickerson, served as the administrator for the estate. Some of
his estate records are missing. The only mention made of his wife, Elizabeth, is made on
the final settlement. She received $150.00. It is unknown what became of Elizabeth after
the death of her husband. I have found no record of remarriage or death. I have no
idea what happened to her son. John Pyatt, either. Adding to the mystery, is the fact that
Minnerva and Isom James seem to have been raised by their grandfather after Isom's death,
but their names did not appear on the 1880 census. Here is a look at some of the
records that I have pertaining to the estate of Isom Dickerson. Note that all of this took
place in Polk County, Missouri.
