Patrick Loughney's brother, Roger, had seven children. The eldest child, John, married Catherine Daly (Catherine's brother was Dr. Francis Patrick Daly, well-known country doctor). John and Catherine had six children, Roger, Frank, John Joseph, Thomas Paul, Jane and Genevieve. Jane and Genevieve were twins, but Genevieve died quite young, at the age of two. None of the five remaining siblings would marry; all of them would remain in the Ironton/Reedsburg area. This branch of Loughneys has been lost...none of them remain.
Frank Loughney was a cattle dealer and farmer. He was an active Democrat. Strokes and arteriosclerosis kept him hospitalized the last five years of his life.
Paul Loughney was an active Republican. The brothers reportedly had lively political discussions.

Dear Jane, Frank, and Paul -
About 5 years ago (not the last visit) I told you if I got to Pittsburgh, I would check the phone book for Loughneys, because you thought you might have relatives here.
Today is my first visit, and sure enough, you DO have relatives here still. Mr. Roger L. whose home and business numbers are on the phone listings I am enclosing died 1 yr ago at age 82. I talked with his widow, who gave me the name of his sister, Miss Stella Loughney, Forbes Pavilion 3525 Forbes Ave Pittsburgh - Phone 683-4206 ext 363.
Stella Loughney is a niece of your father, John Loughney, and of course she knew your mother. She also remembered the farm, having visited there, and remembered Uncle Pat Daly, my father. As soon as I mentioned Reedsburg she named Aunt Catherine and your father. She is 88 years old, and in an apartment in a care or nursing home. It was a delight to talk with her - she has all her mental faculties, and is a real lady. I'm sorry I can't see her personally this trip but hope to in the future. Stella was one of 15 children, 12 of whom lived to be adults. Four are still living, 2 sisters and one brother. Her brother is named Charles and he lives in Pittsburgh (age 72). His son, age 40 is the John Loughney listed in the phone book. I just talked with John also. Ruth L. listed in the book is an in-law of the family. Stella's two sisters live in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Her brother, Walter, died one year ago, and her sister Genevieve died one and a half yrs ago. Incidently, Stella remembers meeting the father of your father John. I don't remember what his name was - Pat?
The E. D. Loughney which completes the phone listings is probably Ed Loughney, but there is no answer on the phone. John L. says he's an official of the Shell Oil Co, but he is not sure he is a relative, but I suspect he probably is.
Stella L. says your name comes from Lough Neagh, a lake in Ireland which is pronounced like your name. She says her people originally came from Westport in County Mayo (I remember Bally Croix in County Mayo as being where some of the family came from - Dalys, Joyces, etc). She says Loughney is such a rare name it is hardly mentioned in the Irish geneology books. She looked it up when in Ireland at Trinity College.
Stella's sister Genevieve had a son who is visiting in Ireland right now. He asked her about the family history before he left.
That's about all the history I could dig out, but one thing is sure - you have a lot of cousins out this way!
All is going great at home. Patty is as busy as a bee - doing fine in the State Dept. Patty's Dad has been living with us for a month of two, and her Mother will come back with me next week when I get to Washington. They'll be living with us from now on. The apartment just got to be too much for her mother. It's a big, fine new place, with swimming pool, garage, restaurant (a concession) and about 8 floors. She's 72 and it was too much. Patty's Dad is 77, so they deserve to take it easy. We have 5 bedrooms, so 2 of the kids go to the 3rd floor, and they love it.
This is all the stationery in the drawer so I'll HAVE to close.
Hope you are all well, and that you'll drop us a line when you get time. Please give my best to Father Kiernan and all.
Roger Loughney was the auto dealer.
Much love, Pat Daly
