Not Enough Time in a Day
Hey kids! Do you feel that there are just not enough hours in a day to do everything that needs to be done?

I start my homework as soon as I get home from school. I'm supposed to practice the piano a little each day. Some days I just don't have the time to set aside. Gee, I wish my mom could practice for me while I'm trying to study for a test and squeeze it all in.

I ice skate three weeknights in a row. Now I have to have dinner, change, and allow one hour for sitting in rush hour traffic. Since it gets dark early, I can't read or study in the car anymore. By the time I get home, there's just about enough time for a snack, a shower, and then off to bed. Before you know it, tomorrow is here and the same schedule starts all over again. Weekends are a time to catch up on sleep and get a jump on school projects and reading assignments.

I love the sport of ice skating and I love what I do, but do parents think that this is easy? It's not so easy being a kid. Do you have the same problem? Don't you wish your parents could do some things for you so you could have more time for yourself?

This is Dana with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

          A Matter of Style

My mom and dad always ask me why my friends and I love disco music, bellbottoms, and high heels. We love them because they're back in style. Today's kids love to wear what's cool.

Personally, I love high heels because usually they have beautiful designs on them and make me look taller. I love disco music because it's good to dance to and I love bellbottoms because they make my waist look narrower.

The 90's disco music isn't the same as the music my parents listened to. Now they have rap and disco together, or reggae and disco, or all three beats combined. The shoes are also higher. They used to consider 2- inch heels high, but now we consider 5- inch heels low. The bellbottoms are made so long now they force you to wear high (platform) heels. Who brought back the 70's? Do you know? This is Madeline with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

     Voting

I think kids should be able to vote. We see commercials as much as our parents do. Maybe we don't want Bill Clinton as our president. We are people, too. Why should we stand around and let others take charge of the whole world and not even have the right to vote. We should be able to help choose our president, vice president, attorney general, and all the other candidates. This is Kaitlyn with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

     Siblings

Does your older brother or sister order you around? It is such a pain! All I hear is "Get me a drink", "Answer the phone", and "Get the door." I understand when they are sick I have to do them a lot of favors because they are weak. When I'm sick I still have to do them favors even if they're not sick and I am! Sometimes my mother tells them they could do it for themselves. That's only when I am sick. For some reason, I hear my name from one of my brothers or sisters every day. I will never have one day without hearing, "Jennifer! Get me a drink!" Sometimes my sister yells at me to clean up the living room. Someday I wish I could order them around to get them back for all the other favors. This is Jennifer with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

     House Rules

One day my parents made a rule that we can't drink out of a container, but my dad just drinks out of the container and my mom just says, "He sets a bad example". Other rules are that if "someone" (guess who) leaves his coat on the floor 25 cents is taken from that person's bank. If I don't have breakfast, I can't have dessert. If someone mimic someone that means no TV or Nintendo 64 for two hours. I don't think my parents should make so many rules. This is Timothy  with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

**********************
Why do we have to eat everything at the dinner table?  Sometimes my parents cook yucky foods for dinner and they say I have to eat it. My sister, brother, and I don't like it so it just becomes leftovers and stays in the refrigerator until it spoils. If no one it going to eat it, why do parents cook it? This is Magnolia  with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

**********************

Why do kids have to eat all the vegetable on their plates while parents don't? (Have you ever noticed that?) I think we should not have to eat the vegetables on our plates and eat whatever we want. Take rice and beans, for instance. We should be able to eat the rice and leave over the black beans if we want. This is Lauren with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

**********************
Don't you hate it when your parents tell you to clean your room, make your bed, and wash the dishes (even when you are sick). Don't you just hate taking out the smelly garbage? Then there's not being allowed to watch TV while doing homework, not being allowed to go out until work is done and having to eat everything you put on your plate (or else there's no dessert). I'm sick of all this and parents don't understand us. We don't want to do all these things. This is Sarah with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

***********************
Why do parents give kids chores? If the parents did the same chores when they were kids, why can't they do the chores themselves? Maybe I could tell my parents to clean up their room. Maybe I could tell my parents to wash the dishes. Maybe I could even tell my parents to bring out the trash.

What kind of chores do your parents give you? This is Katrina-Mae with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

***********************
Why do kids have to make their beds in the morning? When they go to sleep at night it's only going to messy again in the morning. There's just no point. When my parents tell me to pick up my things off the floor, I shouldn't have to make my room neat. It should be messy if I want it to be messy. Parents should not be able to boss us around with these rules. This is Sophia  with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

**********************
Why do kids have to do things for their parents? When I walk to the store I often buy them things with my own money like soda, milk, and chips. When my parents tell me to do things, I do them, but then I ask them to do something for me (and I talk to them about it), and they say "You could do it yourself". If I have to do what they say, they should have to do what I say. This is E.J. with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids."  (Look for my restaurant review. Do I have a recommendation!)

**********************
You know how parents sent you to sleep? Well, I think I should send my parents to sleep. Then I can stay up late. That way I can play more. Also, I don't want to clean my room. I sleep there. I'll make a path to my closet, dresser, bed, and computer. I also HATE coming inside early. I wish I could send my parents home from shopping early. If this happened we could balance and equalize power. I want to have equal power in my house. This is Brendan with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

***********************
Why can't kids choose their own bed times? I feel that I tend to go to sleep when I'm ready. I don't understand why parents have to make all the rules. On weekends I'm allowed to stay up later than my mother would like. However, the next day I don't sleep in and pretty much get up as if I had gone to sleep the regular time. I think I'm a good judge of how much sleep I need! This is Thomas with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

***************************

Why do kids have to go to bed when their parents say so? You know what mean. We could wake up on time if we went to bed at midnight (at least I know I could). I’m sure there are millions of kids out there who feel the same way. I guess our parents want the best for us, so that's probably why, but I'd still like to get rid of "bedtime". This is ten year old Anthony Joseph with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

***************************

Why can't parents listen to kids? They usually say something like, "Go to your room" or "Eat broccoli", or "Eat spinach". -- Or sometimes they say, "It's your bed time. Go to sleep!" Sometimes they don't even let you watch some late night movies! So what's wrong with this list? Kids don't get enough freedom. I wish parents would let us kids watch movies and eat what we want. If you're lucky, sometimes grandparents let us watch late might movies. If you're really lucky, you might even get to watch horror movies and not have to eat spinach. There are times I want to my mother to do all those things instead of me! This is Svetlana with another Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

*************************

Why do kids have to make their beds? Why do we have to eat with a fork and knife? Who made these house rules? The original author is unknown. Why does the house have to be clean? I think kids should be able to eat with anything they want. There are kids who may like all these rules, but I don't. This is Kirill with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

Don't you hate it when your parents tell you "Eat
all of your food, and I mean ALL YOUR FOOD!" ?-- But they get to leave food at
the sides of their plates?  Well, for once I want to tell THEM, "Eat all
your food!"   My dad tells my sister and me, "Eat all your veggies."  He knows we hate them.  I think grown-ups should have to eat all their food, also! This is
Samantha Lopes with a "Kid Comentary".

    Video Games

Why are video games so popular? Can't people like something else? How about virtual reality? Wouldn't it be cool if something fake looked real by just putting on a headset? This virtual reality would be something you could see but not feel. You could even fly. It would be like a dream but you would remember the whole thing. This could be a big improvement on computers, TV or video games. Just think, there could be so many virtual reality programs that you'd never have to see anything twice (unless you wanted to with your friends). Virtual reality would definitely be cool. This is Val with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

     TV Programs

I believe that television programmers should take the opinions of viewers my age more seriously. Some shows that kids my age like are on television after we go to sleep. I would like to watch, for instance, "South Park" but it doesn't even start until 10:00 P.M.

I wish programmers asked out age group what programs we liked and what time we watch TV. This is Christine with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

    Movies

When people talk about movies these days, they talk about Titanic. What do I say? I say, "Big deal!" That movie has been around too long. Besides, in my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio isn't a good actor at all. I think he's a fake and a fraud. This movie has characters who swear and there is improper material. Let's move on! This is Kevin  with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

   Lunch

Why do we only have one hour for lunch? I think it should be about two hours long. Half an hour should be given to eat and the other hour and a half we should be able to play outside! That way we don't have to rush through lunch in order to have enough time to play. That would also leave us one hour less time to do school work! This is Tara with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

****************************

I don't think it's fair that teachers can go and eat whatever they want for lunch and we can't. They can go to Pizza Hut or Burger King or McDonald's -- anywhere! We have to eat plain old school lunch or whatever our parent's pack for us. What's really unfair is when you can smell something delicious on their breath and you get hungry again. I think it would be better if at least once a week all the kids could bring in money so that the teacher could go and buy the whole class a pizza pie. That way we all would have something else other than hot or cold lunch. This is Julie with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

   Homework

Sometimes I wonder how come parents don't get homework. I understand how we both get work at our schools and jobs, and sometimes adults get work to take home, but they don't get homework daily like us! Even on the weekends we get homework so we have to stay home while they take our brothers and sisters shopping! It's not fair. We all know that kids have to learn, but so do parents. When we ask our parents or teachers a question and they say, "I don't know," we should hand them a social studies textbook so they could know. I know parents know a lot of things, but they don't know everything. This is Deena with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

********************************
Why do kids get homework? Teachers give it to us and expect us to do it, and if don't, we get in trouble. When we do homework, we get no reward. Well, teachers should get homework, too. Sometimes the kids should be in charge so the teachers get to go home and miss their favorite TV shows. We should be able to sit back and relax and watch TV instead of homework. With another Kid Commentary, this is Thomas for "New York Kids".

    Cooking Food

Why do people have to cook food? Why not eat it raw like the cavemen did? It might not taste as good but it would save you a lot of time. Just grab food out of the freezer or cupboard and get a glass of water and eat. It would be so simple. This is Angela with a Kid Commentary for "New York Kids".

       Music
        "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind
         Song review by Sarah Caltabiano

Jumper is a get up and dance song or for some people you should sit down and hear the words over and over again and you can get what it means.  They’re trying to tell you that you shouldn’t be ashamed of yourself and to not keep deep dark secrets that might be holding you back about something, in other words don’t let your secrets hold you back from doing the things that you love, and you should tell them to someone and get them off tour mind.  In the song there’s a line that goes “Wish you would step out from that ledge my friend you could cut ties of all the lies you’ve been living’ in”.  That line describes it all.

About the group, The Backstreet Boys
      by Sophia Tsourounakis

The Backstreet Boys are #1 with all their fans will probably take up N.Y. They are tearing up the charts. Girls love their songs and personalities. Let me tell you Nick Carter is #1.  If I’d  give them a number rating from 1-10, I'd find it very hard because I think so highly of them.

  Computer Game Reviews

    Reviewed by Timothy Menciunas

This is a game where you take the role of a King, Queen, Prince or Princess and you are lost from home or you lost your loved one. There are 7 of these games. They have mythological creatures like witches, minotaurs, fortune tellers, etc. They also use play on words like dogwood the dogwood is or bookworm the worm is in the book. You have to find objects to pick up to help you in the game. There is usually more than one way of beating the game. It is a magical funny game but is hard.

"Bill Nye, The Science Guy: Stop the Rock"

      Reviewed by Katrina Teano

My favorite computer game is “Bill Nye the Science Guy:Stop the Rock”. It is a fun game where you learn , solve puzzles about science, and save the Earth.
A meteorite is about to strike Earth. The machine used to stop the meteorite is out of control.  The only way the machine will work again is if you solve 7 puzzles in 5 days -- otherwise, Nye Labs is doomed.
I like this game because it’s fun, challenging, and you learn, all at the same time.

   A Bridge too Far

  Reviewed by William Negron

"A Bridge Too Far" is very good computer game.  It is a game about World War 2. You can create your own game.  You can choose how many points  you and the opponent start with.  Each player buys soldiers and equipment. You have the option to buy tanks and flamethrowers too! It is a fun game.

War Craft 2

    Reviewed by Thomas Metzing

War Craft 2 is a really good computer game.   It's an excellent strategy builder. You must command your knights or Orgs as they battle each other.  You must feed, protect, and build ships and buildings to conquer the other team. Once Victory is yours, you hold the power in your hands and win.

       Quake 2

     Reviewed by Michael Micale

I like Quake 2 because of the graphics, inventory and options.  It is a fighting game.  It has a lot of blood and guts which is one reason  I like it.  It is also hard to beat ( It took me 1 month to beat level 1) and is lots of fun.  One warning, however! I wouldn’t let any children under 10 years old play this gave -- Ever!  It would probably give them bad nightmares.  I recommend this game for children 10 years and older.

     Websites

        etoy.com
An Internet web site reviewed by Caitlin Mejia

I think etoy.com is the coolest website on the web because it shows you all the toys that are in stock in some stores.   The cost of those toys is posted including information on and well they’re selling and also a suggested age group for each toy.  This helps you decide if you should buy this toy for your child.   The site shows you the best selling toys and the worst selling toys for the holidays.

You could play games that really have no meaning.  It is amusement for adults and some kids. I would rate this site for mature ages 10 and up.

Sega Sages

     Reviewed by Anthony J. Velez

This is Anthony Velez from New York Kids with a review for a web site.  Sega Sages is not so popular for video game help, cheats, etc.    I'd like to try to make it more popular.  It has cheats, and help for almost system and computer.  It is also a big site with lots on it.  I like it for many reasons including the fact that it has codes for Gameshark, N64, and IBM computers.  It will satisfy almost any gamer out there.  It has many "walk throughs".  A "walk through" is a complete word for word explanation on how to beat a game.  It has a very helpful finding option which will give you a fast link to a game.  This is a very cool web site.

Building and Researching Websites

      by Svetlana Shafranskaya

There are so many websites. There are thousands of them on the Internet.   THere are many sites on just one subject.  You go from link to link, and from categories to categories.  The more you search about a subject, the deeper you go  Deeper till there is no more to tell. There could be so many topics to choose from.  From cameras and braces to stories and books.  There are so many things to choose from.  Researching and building a website is hard work.  Just to finish up a website, you need a design and some pictures!
