Toby
Toby arrived on a rainy day in March bringing much sunshine to a family with 4 kids. Toby flew from Omaha to Houston to San Jose, CA for a total of 2403 miles. He is now quite the seasoned traveler for such a young guy.
Toby spent the good part of an hour sniffing out his new home and boy did he have a lot to sniff. Suffice it to say he left his mark in quite a few places that night. When we got home it was just dad and the puppy until the kids got home from school. One by one they arrived and it was definitely love at first sight. Our second child had been gone on a week long retreat and so we packed up the car and Toby and drove off to pick up the last child. Mom and Dad got a quick kiss and hug but it was obvious she wanted to see our new puppy. Toby had only been with us a few short hours and as our daughter began to tell us about her trip we noticed that Toby was missing. Now all the doors were shut and we were all there but some how we lost Toby. We searched all around the house and could not find him anywhere. My youngest son mentioned that really none of us had left the room so he had to here. I lifted up the loveseat but no Toby. I then lifted up the other loveseat and still no Toby. I only had one place left to look, the couch. I tipped over the couch to find Toby curled up and fast asleep. That has become his special little resting spot.
Toby has been really good with potty training and usually only seems to have accidents when he is playing with the kids and gets excited, kind of sounds like my own kids. We bought Toby quite a few chew toys to satisfy his hunger to chew. He loves his cow ears and his rope.
In regards to Alexa, we checked out several breeders and we really liked the way that Alexa was so proactive and responsive to our questions. She obviously cares very much for her puppies and wants to make sure the experience is good for all. We liked the added value that she provided in detailed emails, pictures, responses to our questions, and her follow up. She did everything possible to make sure the puppies were not traumatized by their trip including enclosing a rag with the smells of Toby’s siblings. We especially enjoyed the puppy’s home page. Alexa has made the whole experience of buying a puppy very painless indeed. We would recommend her to anyone that is looking for a quality puppy.
This is our third week with Toby and our family enjoys him so much. With the onset of spring we have a whole new reason to be excited with the joys of walking a dog, playing in the grass and laying down curled up with someone who loves you unconditionally. Thank you Alexa for all you have done to make this a memorable experience for children who otherwise were once scared of dogs, they have a new found love and affection for a little pup named Toby.
UPDATE: August 16, 2005
He has settled down and loves the kids more and more each day. I am his favorite and he follows my commands. Occasionally he will not listen when he see's something that interests him. I do not keep him on a lease except occasionally when we are by busy streets as I do not want him running into traffic. We have a large school behind us so we go through the fence and let him run until he is plumb tuckered out. We had him groomed the other day and he looked so good. My daughter took him in and when he got back he barked at her for a good 15 minutes. She tried treats and everything and he would not give her the time of day other than to bark at her. He let her know that he did not like that I guess. He also was given his shots and thus he is up to date. When we open the front door he loves to run to the front and visit whoever is out there and the neighbors love him. He cracks me up because as long as there is a fence he goes right up to larger dogs, German Shepherds, Rotweillers, Boxers and growls at them like crazy and acts like he wants to have a piece of them. Our neighbors across the street have a very large dog and we let them mingle under our supervision as Toby is male and the other dog is a female. But Toby is more timid with him as there is no fence.
