On assignment with NBC News in Kosovo Province, June 1999

Between March 27th, and June 26th,1999, I spent more than 50-days in the Balkans. My first trip took me to Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. My second included stops in Italy, Greece, Makedonia, Kosovo. I spent 5-days cruising the Aegean Sea onboard the USS Kearsarge and "hit" the beach with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. My assignment was to cover the Marines in Kosovo and I was with them daily for more than two weeks before being rotated out when NBC News scaled down its coverage. The Marines departed Kosovo on July 10th and returned to the USS Kearsarge.

The above photo was taken on a secondary highway in Southern Kosovo. NATO planes had attacked a Yugoslav Army column during the Air War (March-April-May) and scored direct hits on the tank in the foreground and the truck in the background. The site was inside the US Sector of Kosovo and Army munitions experts warned against walking off the road or exploring the inside of the tank because of the probability of unexploded ordnance.

When I'm not at work, I like to spend my off-time with my family, or on the computer, or fishing, or traveling or operating my amateur radio station.

THERE'S NO SIGNIFICANCE TO THE MAP-- I JUST LIKE IT!

MY HOBBY -- Ham Radio

I've been in Amateur Radio for 39-years. My HAM RADIO page is just evolving, but you can click here to see how I got here, and what one of my radio interests is: CONTESTING....

My first radio was "QRP" -- low power, and I've been fascinated with the concept ever since. I belong to several QRP groups, and have a website dedicated to low-power Amateur Radio....
