Casey, Feisty, Grandpa, Gretel, Poto & Maya

Casey: Blind (although you'd never know it!), Casey is one of those big, bruisers who just seem to take over a room as soon as they walk in. Casey had arrived at FACT and was placed into an adoptive home with a senior citizen.   However, an iillness forced him to return Casey to FACT where he will remain. Because he's so "sturdy" and well able to fend for himself, Casey is a permanent foster in the shelter and runs with the shelter director's infamous horde. casey3.jpg (10550 bytes)

Feisty: Another ferret relegated to Foster care due to being slightly older. Now 5 – he was only 3 ½ when he entered the program; Not old, butnot young enough to be desirable to most adopters. Fortunately, Feisty is a wonderfully tempered sable fellow who tolerates the abuse of younger ferrets, and has found a loving, caring Foster home after waiting 6 months here at the shelter.

Grandpa: FACT rescued a large group of breeding ferrets from an abusive owner in Vermont in September of 1995. Many were transferred to other shelters, but several stayed here. Grandpa is so named because he looks to be the father of a number of the younger ferrets. He’s a silver mitt with distinctive, short little legs and a way of clinging when you pick him up that made us think, at first, that he might be blind. He’s not, just insecure. That hasn’t stopped him from being a real hell-raiser, though!

Gretel: A silver 6 year old female who came in with thinning hair and a big attitude! Gretel was found outside and the man who took her in knew next to nothing about ferrets – he was feeding her dog food and macaroni & cheese. Gretel has put on weight, hair (after an adrenal surgery), and has gotten over her dislike of other ferrets. Now she’s beautiful! Recently Gretal has lost the use of her back legs.  We are researching medical alternatives and she may shortly be visiting with specialists at Tufts.

Poto: Poto arrived at the shelter with a hugely swollen vulva; after adrenal surgery, it has improved. The friend she arrived with, Koto, recently passed to Rainbow Bridge. Poto is a busybody who is a little aggressive with other ferrets.  At nearly 4, she was placed in the Foster program - with so many young ferrets to choose from in the shelter, who wants anyone older? Luckily, one of our stalwart Foster families did!

Maya: A sweet little sable girl of about 5 or 6. Maya was one of those unfortunate ferrets whose owner no longer could keep her, leaving her with her parents.  However, "Dad" couldn't tolerate having a ferret in the house and Maya came to FACT.  We are presently seeking a permanent foster home for little Maya.  Oh yes, Maya is also blind - the result of cataracts which does not stop her from chasing any other ferret who makes the mistake of trying to crawl into her sleepy spot!
