hi- fell into this site while doing a search for my dad. He is a WW2 veteran, discharged 1945 after serving as a control tower operator in Italy. His papers say he was in the 555th Air Force Base Unit. He is feeling rather nostalgic and I am trying to find an 'alumni' group for him to converse with. Any ideas? Thanks!

Many compliments on your honorable site partner. Although I served USMC, during the Vietnam Campaign, your site will not let me forget that my Father, World War 2 Army, served the Africa Campaign. Dad was a firefighter at one of the air stips in Africa. Will never forget some of the situations we discussed, as how badly injured some of the crewmen/pilots were, as well as how damaged some of the aircraft were that barely made it back to the strip....some for crash landings. Salutes to all our Veterans our there, of yesterday, today, and tomorrow... with a Semper Fi ! ! ! "Chu" / Jim

Happy to find your website. Bill was proud to be a 43-D'er and we attended a lot of the reunions together before 1992. He flew the B-17 "Frenesi" (and "Frenesi II") at Rougham Airfield in Bury St. Edmunds, England. Rougham Tower Assn. has restored the tower--now a museum--and has just completed a memorial wall in front to contain plaques. The Assn. is extremely active and puts on air shows with all the trimmings regularly.

I am saddened that 43D will no longer meet at an organized reunion and that I attended only one reunion, and that was at Charleston. My classmates from Ellington were generally conspicuous by their absence. and I wish I knew the reason why. I am happy to report that I am in reasonably good health for a soon to be 85 year old, but that age is not unusual in this group. We, the living have run the good race, saved Democracy in the war we were trained for and several of the ones that followed. We are proud members of the "Greatest Generation." May God bless each and every one of us.

I have been searching for information regarding my grandfather's life as a pilot in WWII and this is the first site I have found that mentions him. My grandfather was Elmer. H. "Buck" Carroll, apparently of the Napier class from what I learned on this site. I know he went on to fly in Italy, but he never talked much about his time in the war. He retired a Lt. Col. in the sixties. I think he was OSI the rest of his career. If anyone happens to remember Buck Carroll, I would sure like to hear from you. Please email me sowards at cox dot net. Thanks for putting this information on the web.

I was accepted for the AAF pilot training at Albany, Ga. air base in 1943 while still 17 years old. I entered active duty on 1/6/1944 and went thru classification at Miami, Fl. then later, to CTD training at Univ. of Chattanooga. Since you guys did such an outstanding job of survivorship, ( that's a good thing)I did not get to Pre-Flight training at San Antonio until early 1945. Regretfully, I never completed flight training since the war was over (thankfully) just a few months later. Yours is a great site. I would appreciate hearing from those cadets whose experience was similar. Thanks.

THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE VERY WELL RECEIVED BY MEMBERS OF AVIATION CADET CLASS 43-D. FOR SOME TIME I HAVE WONDERED WHAT FATE HELD IN STORE FOR MY CLASS-MATES WHO GRADUATED FROM THE SINGLE-ENGINE ADVANCED FLYING SCHOOL AT EAGLE PASS AAF, TEXAS ON APRIL 22,1943. JUST BY CHANCE I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT A FEW OF THEM. HOWARD CORNIA WAS ONE. IN THE FALL OF 1956 I SAW HOWARD AT THE ARMY PRIMARY FIXED-WING CONTRACT PILOT TRAINING SCHOOL
