A.T.A. Courses Available

Unarmed Security Guard/Officer
This four(4)hour course meets the minimum criteria established by the Department of Commerce and Insurance for the certification and registration required for all guards/officers. For specific program subject areas visit the links page and go to Private Protective Services.
Armed Security Guard/Officer
This twelve (12) hour course exceeds the minimum standards established by the state for certification and registration.
Shotgun Qualification Course
During this four(4) hour course, the student will receive instruction on basic Use of Force, employment of a shotgun, characteristics, limitations, and maintenance procedures for a shotgun, as well as complete a qualification course of fire.
Use of Force
This four (4) hour basic course will cover elements established by the Federal Supreme Court during the landmark case of "Graham -vs- Conner". Simple to use and understand diagrams and charts are utilized to illustrate the simplicity of this program model.
Advanced Use of Force
This eight (8) hour course is designed for the supervisor, manager, or policy developer. It encompasses the basic course with further information on training protocals, force indexing, and force reporting.
Basic Baton
This four (4)hour course is applicable to straight, rigid, and also expandandable batons. This course is approved by the State Commerce and Insurance Deapartment, as well as the Tennessee P.O.S.T.
Advanced Baton
This eight(8)hour course is applicable to straight, rigid, and also expandandable batons. This course is approved by the State Commerce and Insurance Deapartment, as well as the Tennessee P.O.S.T. This course encompasses the basic course and adds escourts, takedowns, and handcuffing techniques. This course will provide the guard/officer the ability to use the baton in other than striking techniques.
Chemical Spray
This four (4) hour basic course is conducted under the Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT) corriculumn. This course is nationally recognized and utilized by many agencies, at all levels of government. This course is also Tennessee P.O.S.T. recognized.
Defensive Tactics
This eight (8) hour course provides stance, positioning, threat recognition, open hand control, joint manipulation, blocks, and strike techniques. Allows the user to have other options to control a situation. This course is Tennessee P.O.S.T. approved.
Arrest and Control/Ground Fighting
This twenty four (24) hour course covers the "must have" skills needed when the situation is at potentially it's worst time. Defensive Tactics is a prerequisite for attendance. This course is Tennessee P.O.S.T. approved.
Law Enforcement Carbine
This course offers basic operator maintenance, characteristics, limitations, and employment of an M-16/AR-15 5.56mm/.223cal rifle. Range qualification and operation is also a major subject area during this course of instruction. This course is utilized by the Tennessee State Troopers and is Tennessee P.O.S.T. approved.
Motor Vehicle Stops
This eight(8) hour basic patrol procedures course emphasizes officer safety and situational control aspects for the most common Law Enforcement task. The techniques illustrated are applicable to the small rural county, as well as the large metropolitian setting.

Simunitions Scenario Based Training
This course can be tailored to specific departmental or agency needs. We take real world situations and insert them into a controlled environment providing all aspects or levels of Use of Force application and tools available to the officers. This will enhance the overall officer ability to handle most any situation society can provide.
Side Handle Baton/Control Device
This course is designed to give an officer the ability to properly utilize the PR-24 side handle baton and/or the PR-21 side handle baton/control device.
TASER Operator (M-26, X-26, and HP121 Modular)
This course is designed to give an officer the ability to properly utilize the TASER. Course content includes characteristics and limitations, basic nomenclature and functional ability, maintenance considerations, tactics and employment fundamentals.
Active Shooter Response
This course is designed to give a patrol officer, as well as Law Enforcement Management staff, the ability to plan, direct, and conduct a rapid response to an active shooter in a workplace or educational setting.
Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (P.A.T.H.)
This course is designed to give a patrol officer basic skills and techniques necessary to effectively and safely gain control of a compliant or non-compliant subject through proper handcuffing practices. Individual skills and knowledge are simple therefore easy to retain and implement when needed.
Instructional Principles Course
Instructor certification training course emphasising the Systems Approach to Training Design and a familiarization of Instructional Systems Development, individual presentation skills, Field Training programs, outline and lesson plan development, with a strong emphasis on phsychomoyor skills development and training exercises and simulations. Students will prepare and present various types of presentations and be provided feedback as to the performance levels.
