bulletMeine Damen und Herren Grüss Gott
My dear friends: Reunion 2007

I'm probably the last to send his greetings, but you all made my head so large, it took me a couple of weeks to come back to earth and realize I'm just Arthur in rural America!  My bride and I can not find enough words to express our sincerest thanks for all the compliments that you former Augsburgers bestowed upon me at your recent reunion in the Queen City area of North Carolina.  As we got back home, I had time to ponder each and every compliment.

I remember what some of you and several others, (not in attendance), did and shouldn't have done back then, that were both complimentary and not.  Some of you related incidents that you and some others got into that I had even forgotten, but it was great being reminded and thinking of the manner in which we resolved it without bringing it to the attention of the command.  We all know that during those years we had the best and most organized youth activities program in the federal republic of Germany.

I can't help but recall the night that our beloved president, John F. Kennedy, was shot.  We were having a German-American dance at the center when the police brought it to our attention and asked us to close down the festivities, since the President of Bavaria had ordered a period of mourning for the death of the American president.  I remember not one of you guys in attendance had any "come back" comments to the closing of the center.  All in attendance, American and German, showed the proper respect and in the following days, you continued to make your parents and all the citizens of the United States of America proud of your conduct.

So meine damen und herren, and especially my military brats, from the 2nd oldest city in Germany, Augsburg, established by Caesar Augustus 16 B.C., Margaret and I send our heartfelt thanks and best wishes that you and yours may continue to prosper and enjoy good health.

Bis zum nächsten Mal,
Arthur & Margaret

bulletVielen Dank fur Alles !!

What can we say to tell each of you how much we appreciate and thank you for making the journey to Charlotte last weekend? It was a rousing success, therefore, we are indebted to Ken, Iris, and Jackie for all that was done to make it such an enjoyable time. Der Waldhorn was like being in Deutschland.

Having you share those many joys and humorous times together in Augsburg brought back many wonderful memories of your former Teachers, your Parents, the AYA. It reminded me of how blessed we all were to have lived in that Roman City.

Wasn’t it grand to have Arthur & Margaret Thexton and Lynn & “Winnie” Reitnouer with us ! So many of our former friends and colleagues came flowing back, as you talked with me. Those were, indeed, incredible times to remember. We will never forget those special persons that have enriched our lives ---- the joy of having shared times in that special place created enduring memories ---- the time with you was music to our souls that will never leave us.

The years and distance scattered us throughout the world, preventing us from seeing one another—however-- we never forgot each other, consequently, when we met again we were overjoyed beyond description for nothing can match the feeling of meeting such cherished friends.

Several of you mentioned other teachers that had lasting influences in your lives. Robert “Bob” Bureker was one that you asked about. He is still teaching teachers or was the last I heard from him in Washington State. He would love to hear from you, therefore, please take a few minutes and e-mail or write to him at bhbur@attbi.com  Home address is 15117 NE 28th Court, Vancover, Washington, 98686 Tel: 306 574 6896

Thank you all, once again, for giving me such joy in hearing of your lives, families and the successful years that you have enjoyed. You all were and continue to be the best !! May each of you and your loved ones continue to have God’s richest blessings. Let us continue to pray for Peace on Earth and the protection of those brave young warriors defending our freedoms also those in California enduring the tragic fire devastation.

Many of you promised to keep in contact with me. PLEASE let us hear when you have the time. Sue and I look forward to seeing you all again ! All Good Wishes !
Dave

bulletHello to you all.............my dearest oldest and newest friends from AAHS!! Brenda and I both SO very much enjoyed our few --------but so very precious days------ with all of you at the reunion.

It is always so amazing to me just how much we are forever intertwined as one and forever bound in our memories to a singular event and time in space--our being together as "brats" in Augsburg. We, whether we knew it or not at the time, are now and forever will always be as one---and truly blessed to have been there together in that singular time and place!

I went to three high schools as an army brat..........Frankurt for two years, Augsburg for one year and Leavenworth for one year and two colleges for undergraduate and law school. BUT.........the only reunion I have gone to..........or will ever care to go to ............is that of Augsburg AAHS. Call it magic or just plain old nostalgia.........I don't know! All I know is that Augsburg and each of you are so deeply engrained in my spirit that I get high and find peace just being with you.

So, Brenda and I thank you also for taking your precious time to share this magic moment with you all.

As we departed the reunion, it occurred to me that our time together is now even more limited as we all approach 60 years plus.

Some day in the future our numbers will dwindle as we gracefully age. But.........I do know one thing as the truth...........as long as two or more of us can make the trip for the next reunion.........we will always be as one and I will always make the effort to be there.

God bless you all! Until we meet again my friends!

And a special thanks to Ken, David , my lovely sis, Iris, and Jackie for all their collective efforts in a truly wonderful and memorial reunion!!

And to Ken...........now that I know why you were always called mustang..........may I only say THANKS.........not only for all your efforts on the reunion...........but for letting me get to know you for the first time and to realize what a truly good and decent man you are.

If you have the occasion ...........light a candle at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th, 2007 for that will be the day and the hour that I will wed Brenda.........my love and the soul mate that I have spent my life searching for. She is in love with Germany and all of you. We are being married at the Bavarian Inn in Shepardstown ,West Virginia and out wedding night suite is the Augsburger Chalet. You will all be in our hearts and spirit and minds.............we only wish that you could be there with us to share our special moment. David Cook with be my best man.........and he is truly that.

Mike Bishop, Ron Owens, Jackie, Klause and Coach Reitnouer it was such a special pleasure to see you and to talk to you again after 43 years.

THANK-YOU ALL
Al and Brenda.

Reunion 2007

bulletEveryone, I, too, want to thank Ken, Iris, Jackie and Mr. Cook for taking the time to bring us together. I've been fortunate enough to attend all four reunions, the planning session in Helen Georgia and the trip to Augsburg but I must say that every new gathering appears to be more special in itself. As Debbie Ross so accurately observed, there is a special bond and friendship among of all us which is something I will cherish forever. Again, many thanks to the organizing committee, stay healthy and I'm already looking forward to the next one. Take care, Bob Bilodeau

bulletI want everyone to know how much I enjoyed meeting and being around such an intelligent, dedicated and very special group. Ya'll had something I've never seen in class reunions. I go with Joyce to her reunions and I always went with my mom to hers and I immediately could see a love for each other and a school spirit that was absolutely extra special. I Reunion 2007appreciated being a part of of this reunion. I will talk about it for a long time. Auf Wiedersehen! Always a friend, Debbie P. Ross '75

bulletHi everyone, It is really great to see all these e-mails from ya'll saying how much you enjoyed the weekend. Linda and I feel just like you do, it was wonderful. Ken, Jackie and Iris went above and beyond in the planning of this gathering. We can't begin to thank you enough for all your efforts. It was the third reunion that we have had the honor to be a part of. Each one was very different, but all of them has been great. The best part of all was just the visiting and renewing old friendships that are so precious. We sincerely hope that this will not be the last gathering of AAHS students. You all take care and let us hear from you. Tom and Linda Sowell

bulletI also want to thank everyone for a great time from both my wife and I and special thanks to Ken, Iris, Jackie and Dr. Cook. I've been to 3 gatherings, Helen, Nashville, and this one...........this one was the best attended, but at each of them I reacquainted with someone that wasn't at the others, all have been great and worthwhile!! Thanks for having us and we will always attend any gathering with this great group. To all of you Southern Cal folks, Pat, Kathy, and Lynn, good luck with this mess, I understand what it feels like to evac your home and not know if its going to be there when you come back............we usually get more warning than a high speed fire gives, again good luck. Jim Pratt '64 and Ann
