Although not an Ice Pilot for very long, Francois immediately became one of my favorites when he joined the team last January.

Francois started the 1997-98 season in Quebec, Canada with the Quebec Rafales of the IHL.

Unfortunately, I didn't start travelling to away games or begin taking pictures until Sass was recalled to Quebec. All I have are newspaper clippings...this one from February 1998.

GRIFFINS SIGN CENTER FRANCOIS SASSEVILLE TO 25-GAME TRYOUT
The Grand Rapids Griffins of the International Hockey League announced today (12-31-98) that they have signed center Francois Sasseville to a 25-game tryout. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Sasseville will join the Griffins for their game tonight against the Milwaukee Admirals at Van Andel Arena. The game is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Sasseville, 21, has played 35 games this season with the Saginaw Gears of the United Hockey League, registering a team-high 34 points on 13 goals and 21 assists. Sasseville ranks second on the Gears roster in power play goals (5) and is tied for second in overall goals (13) and third in overall assists (21).
In his first professional campaign, the 5-11, 195-pound native of St. Bruno, Quebec split time last season between the Quebec Rafales of the IHL and the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the East Coast Hockey League. Sasseville registered six goals and five assists for 11 points in 52 games for the Rafales, his only points thus far in the IHL
In his last season of junior hockey (1996-97), Sasseville recorded a team-high 37-36—73 points in 70 games with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 264 career junior games with Halifax and the Drummondville Voltigeurs, Sasseville accumulated 148 points on 71 goals and 77 assists.
