Abu Al-Qasim Al-Zahrawi

( The World's First Book On Surgery )

Al-Zahrawi, who died in 1013 AD, was born, raised, educated, and practiced in Muslim Spain. He was the world's greatest surgeon of the 10th-11th centuries AD. He invented procedures to break up and extract kidney and bladder stones. Only one of his books survived the Spanish Inquisition. It contained more than 200 drawings of surgical instruments and procedures and was the world's first book on surgery.
