In the summer of 1998 I had the good fortune of going to Nepal to teach Adobe PageMaker and Microsoft Word.
My trip was sponsored by the National Booksellers & Publishers Association of Nepal and The Print Foundation, of Norway. Classes were held in Nepal's largest university, Tribhuvan. The Tribhuvan Central Library and the the Department of Library Science provided me with a computer lab and helped me in every way they could.
My students in the PageMaker
and Word classes
were fantastic. Of course it is unfair to compare Nepal students to American students, but I will anyway. Here it is: Nepal students DO NOT COMPLAIN about anything, ever! There, I said it.
In Kirtipur I had the pleasure of staying with Nani, wearing a traditional Sari on the left, Nani's mother, 8-year-old Anand, Rosey the dog, Marji, 14-year-old Ananta, and Roshani, sitting in the back and wearing fashionable Punjabi clothes. Nani is the chairperson of the local Nepal human rights movement and a fantastic cook. Marji, her husband, is an accountant in Kathmandu.
