Poetry, as defined in the dictionary, is lofty thought or impassioned feeling expressed in imaginative words. A poet is then a person who has the gift of poetic thought, imagination and creation, together with eloquence of expression.
Sara Trevor Teasdale {1884-1933} is the embodiment of this definition. Author and poet, Marya Zaturenska, characterizes the work of Sara Teasdale in these words: "She had a gift that, if it was not genius, certainly resembled it. It was a lyric gift as simple and natural as breathing. It caught one unaware and left the most critical mind astonished and helpless."
I have always loved words and the beauty they possessed in the hands of a skilled artisan. But it wasn't until I discovered Sara Teasdale in my early teens that I realized their true strength. In Sara's hands, words transformed into the warm, rich colors of the heart...sang of the clear, direct song from the soul. In her simplicity was genius. This is my tribute to her.
