HUNT JERSEY ALLIGATORS
Marksmen Watch Passaic River for Reptiles Seen There.
Special to THE NEW YORK TIMES.
BELLEVILLE, N.J., Sept. 11.—A squadron of riflemen was organized here today to hunt for alligators in the Passaic River. The posse was organized by George A. Fitzsimmons of Belleville, former police recorder, who yesterday saw two alligators in the river. Another alligator was killed Friday on the Belleville bank of the stream by Ernest McGregor.
Belleville police said it is probable the alligators were some of the six reptiles which disappeared last year from a lagoon in Military Park, Newark.
The alligators seen by Mr. Fitzsimmons measured about 3 feet in length. The one killed by Mr. McGregor measured about 2½ feet.
