Stangl's sportsmen's giftware was (and still is) very popular. It was produced for over twenty years. As Stangl's ads state "Stangl artists hand paint rich and colorful water fowl, game birds and fish on delightful ashtrays and mugs. Designed for sportsmen everywhere ... at home or in the office." Lamps are extremely hard to find. Apparently very few were made. The canvasback, dolphin, quail, sailfish, and wood duck 5 inch coasters are also very hard to find. At the same time that Stangl made the sportsmen's giftware pieces, they made a number of other designs on the same ashtray shapes. I have included these items with the sportsmens's giftware pieces. In many cases these items were even numbered sequentially with the known sportsmen's giftware items. (For instance 3926C Pheasant is sportsmen, 3926D Fantasy isn't, 3926F Mallard is) These pieces include ones with "modernistic" designs (such as Fantasy, Radiant, Spectrum, and all the #3914 designs) and other such as Big Top, Pink Elephant, "Music" , Tropical (fish) and Carribean (fish and seahorses). |
