Stangl introduced a line of Terra Cotta birds in 1974. These birds were made using Stangl's red "terra cotta" clay instead of the normal white clay. Each plain terra cotta bird was typically mounted on a black glazed base. In total nine terra cotta birds (3401S Wren (Revised), 3401D Pair of Wrens (Revised), 3402S Oriole (Revised), 3405S Cockatoo, 3583 Parula Warbler, 3589 Indigo Bunting, 3592 Titmouse, 3598 Kentucky Warbler, and 3850 Yellow Warbler) were made. This line was not very successful and was quickly discontinued. (Note: A tenth terra cotta bird has been found without the base. It is the 3634 Allen Hummingbird.)
