Stangl Platina and Colonial Silver Birds

Stangl introduced platina in 1961. Platina was made by dry brushing platinum over a gray finish. After a few years, platina was replaced with Colonial Silver. Colonial silver was made exactly the same way as platina except that silver was used instead of platinum. Unless marked the two finishes are virtually impossible to tell apart. Six large birds were made in platina. They are the 3443 flying duck, the 3445 rooster, the 3446 hen, the 3491 hen pheasant, the 3492 cock pheasant and the 3584 large cockatoo. They are all very hard to find. Ten smaller birds were made in colonial silver. They are the 3250 series of ducks, the 3401S wren (revised), the 3402S oriole (revised), the 3585 rufous hummingbird, and the 3598 kentucky warbler.
