| Sunburst was introduced in 1931. It is commonly called "rainbow". It
was made by repeatedly dipping pieces of pottery in three or four different
glazes to different heights. This created a multicolored piece of pottery.
The colors used were tangerine, persian yellow, silver green, colonial blue,
and black. The three most common colors used were tangerine, silver green,
and colonial blue. In most cases the green and tangerine combine to form
a "brown" section. Pieces containing persian yellow and / or black can be
found but are fairly uncommon. Over thirty different giftware items (frogs,
vases, flower pots, candleholders, ashtrays, etc.) can be found in the sunburst
pattern. In addition a dinnerware set was made utilizing the 1388 dinnerware
shape. Known pieces include the teapot, sugar, creamer, cup, saucer,
cream soup, small mixing bowl, 8 inch handled bowl and the 6, 7,
8 and 9 inch plates. Some of the various different pieces are shown below:
(Note: Mold numbers (when they exist) can be very hard to read. Due to these pieces being repeatedly dipped in glaze, the mold numbers are usually completely filled in with thick layers of glaze leaving them unreadable.) |
