Feature of the Month - October 2001- "Multicolor"

This month's feature is "Multicolor Artware". Stangl pottery introduced "Multicolor Artware" in 1928. It was made by applying up to four different glazes (rose, persian yellow, silver green, and colonial blue) by hand in bands around each piece of pottery. Three different styles were made. They are regular "Multicolor" which used all four glazes, "Multicolor Light" which used only rose, persian yellow and silver green, and "Multicolor Dark" which used only colonial blue, persain yellow and silver green. Multicolor was replaced in 1931 with the introduction of Sunburst. Overall multicolor artware pieces are quite uncommon. Pictured at left is an 8 inch "multicolor light" #1148 bowl.
