Feature of the Month - September 2001- "#3430 Duck"

This month's feature highlights the rarest and tallest of all the Stangl birds. The #3430 duck stands 22 inches tall and only two are known to exist. The one shown is in the original natural colors. A second one in white was decorated by Irene Sarnecki right before Stangl's closing in 1978 and was the last bird to be fired in Stangl kilns.

(Note for collectors: When Stangl introduced their "Birds of America" line in 1940, three of these "new" birds were based upon earlier items in Fulper's "Garden Animals" line including the #3430 duck.  In fact the same molds were used. The #3430 duck was based upon the earlier Fulper #871 duck.)
