| Stangl first introduced miniature versions of some of their more popular
artware pieces in 1932. These first miniatures were scaled down versions
of earlier pieces and were very popular. New miniatures were
introduced every year or two throughout the 1930s and into the 1940s.
For the most part these miniatures were exact scaled down versions
of full sized Stangl pieces, however a few of the later "miniatures" may
not have been smaller versions of existing Stangl designs but may have been
miniatures in size only. Regardless, these small giftware items were very
popular. Many were sold as souvenirs and for use as "arts and crafts" type
blanks. Miniatures can often be found that have been handpainted or that
have stickers on them from various summer resort towns and from various
conventions.
(Note: In 1935 Stangl introduced a number of small vases that were bigger than their "miniatures and what-nots" but that were definitely smaller than their usual artware pieces. These were apparently introduced to take advantage of the popularity of the smaller miniature pieces. In general these pieces appear to be of new designs and their heights range from 3 to 4 and a half inches. For the time being, I'm going to call them "Almost Miniatures" and show them in this section on a separate page.)
