Stangl Pottery Marks, Etc.

Over the years Stangl has used a large number of different marks to identify their pottery. The vast majority of their pieces were marked and they even advertised that fact with pride in their magazine ads. ("Look for the Stangl mark on each piece".) Typically a piece of Stangl could be marked in many ways. On items such as dinnerware and birds it is common to have up to three different marks on the same piece. The first mark would include a stamped or embossed mark showing that it was made by Stangl Pottery. In addition it was common for the carver to "carve" her initials (or other mark) and for the painter to paint her initials (or other mark). The Stangl mark signified that it was Stangl pottery, the initials were typically used for quality control reasons.
