A Stroll

through my

 Garden of Peace and Serenity

May you find peace and comfort from your stroll
through my Garden.

  A Personal Note:

About twelve years ago, when I was going through a divorce and dealing with other problems, I was at a pretty low time in my life. To hold on, I sought things that gave me comfort. I collected everything that I could find that would lift my spirits and give me hope. I carried copies of things I needed with me, and posted them around the house. Through it all, I didn't give up. I went through therapy. I attended two different divorce recovery programs. I worked hard on my issues, and on me. I found a supportive group of friends who were there for me when I needed them.

Eventually, I healed.

I ended up with a large collection of affirmations, essays, verses, and quotes. I used many of them in my work with divorce and grief organizations.

From this collection of affirmations and poems and "things", I gleaned inspiration and comfort. It seemed that whenever I had a need, I found something that helped. My spirituality grew as I realized that God was with me throughout every trial and pain.
I grew to trust that my needs (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) would be met.

I realized that the things I had collected were like a garden of flowers from which I could pick what I wanted whenever needed comfort.
So, I created this Garden of Serenity to share with others.

You are invited to pick whatever "flower" you need whenever you need it.

Mine is an ever-blooming garden. Please enjoy!

Note:

There are three pages of my garden. Each one has good affirmations and quotes, so I hope that you read all three. After you scroll down, reading about affirmations and how you should tend your garden (i.e., your life, your well-being, your very soul), you will find links to my next Garden pages. From there, you will find a link to the next page, and, finally, to a page of prayers that I desperately prayed.

You need to know that your pain will end. Doing all that you can do in the present will help to ease your pain and give you comfort.

Affirmations

Think of each affirmation that you find in my garden as a tiny seed in your mind. The thought is the seed, and your mind is the soil.

  1. First you have to plant it (post it where you can see it daily).
  2. Then you have to nurture it (repeat it lovingly to yourself often).
  3. You have to give it time.
  4. You then wait for it to grow. It isn't much when it starts out - a scrawny little thing, barely recognizable.
  5. Give it plenty of fertilizer (positive thoughts).
  6. Water it regularly (don't neglect your garden).
  7. Be sure to weed your garden by pulling all of the weeds (negative thoughts).

After a while, your tiny little seed will become a beautiful plant that will bloom and bear you beautiful flowers and fruit. And you will find that you really do love yourself and you will know that you are special.

Like I did, you will have to tend your garden... You have to to weed it of bad thoughts, water it with nurturing care, and give it plenty of sunshine and positive thoughts. Surround it with loving people.
And, most of all, share your garden with others.

If you tend your garden properly you will find that it will grow strong and be healthy, and so will you.

Sometimes just talking to God in prayer lifts your burdens and lets you know that there is someone who always cares.

But first, let me leave you with a verse that came to mean very much to me. It was sort of a promise that I was sent by a friend in a note, and I read it often. It helped me to hang on when times were tough. After ten years, it is still pasted to my kitchen cabinet.

"I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future."

This site isn't meant to be a church site, and I'm not preaching religion. I just know that if it hadn't been for God and my spirituality, I couldn't have kept my sanity. Going through a divorce or a death of a loved one (or even the breakup of a meaningful relationship) is awful. We all need someone to turn to in our darkest hours.

Special thanks to Bruce "Pan" Wilson, of Moss Brook Arts, who gave me permission to use the water garden from his personal garden on his web page. He designed the running water garden for his home, and animated the photo. He is an animation genius (the moving water) as well as a genuinely nice guy!
